Most Lunar Client problems start with the Microsoft account: Lunar does not support Mojang-account sign-in, and the Microsoft account must have access to Minecraft: Java Edition. Check those first. If both are correct, separate an account or service problem from a Lunar-specific issue, then troubleshoot the launcher, security software, and network.
Why can’t I play Lunar Client?
Work through these checks in order. Testing the same account in the official Minecraft Launcher is a useful diagnostic, not a required Lunar step: if Minecraft cannot sign in there either, focus on the account or authentication services; if it can, investigate Lunar or the device.

- Use a Microsoft account. Lunar does not support signing in with a Mojang account. If your Minecraft account is still Mojang-only, follow Microsoft’s current account guidance to determine whether it can be migrated; do not assume an old Mojang login will work in Lunar. Lunar Client FAQ
- Confirm Java Edition access. The Microsoft account used to sign in needs to own Minecraft: Java Edition or have access through Xbox Game Pass. Check that the purchase or subscription is associated with the same account you are entering in Lunar. Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC
- Try that account in the official Minecraft Launcher. A failure there points toward account access or a wider sign-in issue; success narrows the likely cause to Lunar or the local setup.
- Check authentication status. Look for current reports on Minecraft sign-in or authentication services before changing local settings. Community outage aggregators and server monitors can be useful clues, but user reports are not confirmation from Microsoft, Mojang, or Lunar. No Lunar-specific status page is established here.
- Check platform compatibility. Lunar lists a 64-bit build for Windows 10 and later, Intel and Apple Silicon builds for macOS newer than Sierra, and an AppImage for Linux intended for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Arch. Use the official Lunar Client download page for your system.
Can’t log into Lunar Client with my Microsoft account
If the account has Java Edition access but Lunar’s sign-in window hangs or rejects the login, first confirm the account works in Minecraft’s official launcher. Child-account settings can also restrict access: Lunar’s FAQ suggests using an adult Microsoft account that owns Minecraft or linking access through an adult’s Microsoft family plan. Lunar Client too many sign-in attempts or too many requests
Users have reported “tried to sign in too many times” and “too many requests” errors, including on an apparent first attempt. These reports do not establish a confirmed cause or an official fix. Avoid repeated retries while the message persists; check that the Java purchase is tied to the account, try a private browser window or another browser, and consider waiting before trying again. Clearing browser cookies is another community suggestion, not a verified Lunar or Microsoft remedy. Microsoft Q&A

Lunar Client won’t launch or failed to launch
If login works but the game does not start, investigate the device rather than changing account credentials. Java-related explanations conflict: one third-party guide attributes launch failures to conflicting Java installations or damaged files, while another says Lunar bundles its own runtime. Lunar’s official Java version requirement is not established here, so do not install or select a specific Java version based only on an error reported by another player.
- Restart Lunar and the computer, then install or update Lunar using its official download page.
- Check whether antivirus or endpoint security quarantined or blocked Lunar or its runtime. Only allow files you recognize as belonging to the official Lunar installation.
- If Lunar is installed in a protected system folder, try a normal user-writable location rather than changing broad folder permissions.
- If you have manually changed Java environment variables or launcher settings, restore the prior values or remove the custom override and test again.
These are troubleshooting hypotheses, not confirmed universal fixes. Avoid deleting game or account data unless Lunar support specifically directs you to do so.

Lunar Client login not working on my network
A VPN, network filter, or Wi-Fi issue may interfere with authentication, but community reports of switching networks or disabling a VPN do not confirm that either action fixes Lunar sign-in. As a reversible test, temporarily disconnect a VPN if you use one, or try a trusted alternate network. If the same account works on another connection, review the original network’s filtering or security settings; do not disable protections permanently.

Include your operating system, the exact error text, whether the official launcher works, and the troubleshooting steps already tried. Never send your password or security codes.
