The Sims 4 Mods folder belongs in the game’s user-data folder: Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. If it is missing, check whether your Documents folder is redirected to OneDrive or iCloud, then launch and exit the game or create the folder there. Do not put it in the game’s installation folder.
Where is the Sims 4 Mods folder?
Open the Documents folder for the same computer account you use to play, then go to Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. EA’s official Sims 4 mod-installation guide directs players to the Mods folder inside the Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 user folder.
The exact full path can vary by computer because Documents may be redirected or synced. The important distinction is that Mods goes inside the active user-data folder, not among the game’s program files.
Why can’t I find it?
Documents may be in OneDrive or iCloud Drive
If your Documents folder is backed up or redirected, look there as well as in the usual local Documents location. On Windows, OneDrive can result in a second Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 folder; the game may not use the one you opened. On Mac, Finder may be showing Documents in iCloud Drive. EA community troubleshooting discusses the OneDrive duplicate-folder issue, while an EA Forums support reply notes the iCloud Drive possibility: OneDrive guidance and Mac guidance.

Check the Documents location associated with the account you play on and look for the Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 folder there. If you find more than one, do not assume the game reads the one you opened; the active location depends on your computer’s folder setup.
The game has not created the folder yet
If Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 exists but Mods does not, start The Sims 4 and exit. An EA Forums information post recommends this to generate the folder. EA’s installation guide also says you can create a Mods folder yourself inside Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 if it is absent.

You are looking in the installation folder
The installation folder contains game program files; it is not the user-data location EA identifies for Mods. Put the folder under Documents (or its active redirected or synced equivalent), inside Electronic Arts/The Sims 4, rather than creating a Mods folder alongside the game’s installed files.
The folder exists, but the game does not find my mods
Once you have located the active Mods folder, check the files and game settings:

- Extract downloaded archives. Unzip files in
.zipor.rarformat, then move the extracted mod or custom-content files into Mods. Leaving a download compressed in its archive will not install it as described in EA’s installation guidance. - Enable mods in the game. Open Game Options > Other and turn on Enable Custom Content and Mods.
- Relaunch the game. Restart The Sims 4 after changing the setting so the change takes effect.
EA says mods are available for the PC and Mac versions, not consoles. EA and Maxis also state in the official installation guidance: “Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.”

A missing folder and a mod that stopped working are different problems. EA says it disables mods after game updates to limit possible gameplay issues. If your files are in the right folder but the content no longer appears or works, check Game Options > Other and consult the mod creator about compatibility with your current game version.
