Players objected to the Sword Unseen outfit because reporting described different ways to buy it: a direct-purchase offer in the Chinese client and an escalating-cost draw in the global version. The available sources document that comparison and some players’ complaints, but do not establish an official explanation or how widespread the reaction was.
What was the Sword Unseen controversy about?
The dispute concerned how a cosmetic outfit was monetized in Where Winds Meet, not a change to combat power or the main story. The game’s official site describes it as a wuxia open-world action-adventure RPG, while NetEase’s press room identifies its global launch as free-to-play: Where Winds Meet official site and NetEase Games news index.
In a guide published November 21, 2025, All Things How reported that the global version offered Sword Unseen through a draw whose costs increased, while the Chinese client offered the cosmetic as a direct purchase. That regional comparison comes from the guide and player discussion, not an official historical announcement established here; the exact equivalence of the offers and their regional purchasing power is not verified.
How much could the global draw cost?
All Things How listed seven escalating draw costs, paid in Echo Beads/Pearls, that could total 7,440 if a player needed all seven draws. The outfit could be obtained earlier, so 7,440 is the guide’s maximum path across those listed draws—not a required or expected spend for every player.

Why did some players call it unfair?
In a Steam Community discussion, participants criticized the rising draw costs and compared the global offer with the reported Chinese direct purchase. Some described the difference as unfair or said the draw felt misleading. Those posts show that some players expressed those views; they are anecdotal, self-selected comments, not a survey of the player base or proof that every commenter had firsthand experience with both clients. That distinction matters when asking, “Why is the global version more expensive?” The available reporting describes a less predictable purchase route in global: players might get the outfit before the final draw, but the listed cost rose if they had to continue. It does not establish publisher intent, the full terms of the Chinese offer, or a like-for-like price comparison after currency and regional purchasing power are considered.

Is the outfit draw still available?
The Sword Unseen banner is a historical, limited-time offer; the sources do not establish that it remains available. The official game site’s current pages provide general game information and news, not confirmation of the 2025 banner’s present status or mechanics. Players considering a current cosmetic offer should check its in-game terms rather than assume the old draw or prices still apply.
