Furnace Golems in the Realm of Shadow are found in several regions of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, and most can be toppled by repeatedly attacking their legs while you stay mounted on Torrent. The exception is the armored-leg variant, which ignores that approach and has to be fought from a vantage point with ranged attacks or thrown Hefty Furnace Pots. Below you will find where each golem stands, how to handle both fight types, and what each kill gives you.

Where to find the Furnace Golems

Guides do not agree on how to count these encounters. Some group them by area, and others count the two Ruins of Unte golems separately. Counted with the Unte pair split, the total is eight. The table below combines the directions from PowerPyx and GameSpot. Where a guide gives no direction for a golem, the cell says so.

Region Where the golem stands Notes for the fight
Gravesite Plain North of Scorched Ruins (GameSpot); on the road to Ellac Greatbridge (PowerPyx) Standard leg-stagger fight
Scadu Altus On the road to Shadow Keep (PowerPyx) Listed by PowerPyx only; GameSpot does not list a Scadu Altus golem. Exact spot not stated in the sources consulted.
Church District Highroad North of Highroad Cross (GameSpot) Standard leg-stagger fight
Church District (armored) Reached through Moorth Ruins and Bonny Village (GameSpot; PowerPyx) Armored legs. Requires the armored-leg method below.
Ancient Ruins of Rauh Toward the Church of the Bud (PowerPyx); GameSpot confirms a golem here A beam attack is reported while crossing a bridge (GameSpot)
Ruins of Unte One active golem and one sleeping golem (GameSpot; Automaton West) The sleeping golem must be woken with a Hefty Furnace Pot. See the Unte section.
Cerulean Coast Location within the coast not stated in the sources consulted Standard fight unless the golem has armored legs; check on arrival
Charo’s Hidden Grave Listed by GameSpot; Charo’s Hidden Grave is not named in PowerPyx’s list Exact spot not stated in the sources consulted

Two points about the table need explaining. First, PowerPyx and GameSpot differ on whether Scadu Altus and Charo’s Hidden Grave each hold a golem, so the total of eight should be read as a count based on GameSpot’s enumeration with both Unte golems included. Second, access is not uniform. The Church District route runs through Moorth Ruins and Bonny Village, so reach those areas before you plan that golem.

Before you fight

  • Torrent. Most of the method below depends on mounting Torrent to reach the legs and dodge the stomps.
  • Level. Automaton West gives an approximate recommendation of level 150 or higher. This is the guide author’s estimate, not an official game requirement.
  • Hefty Furnace Pots. You need them for the armored-leg golems and for waking the sleeping Unte golem. Each defeated golem gives you a Furnace Visage, which is used to craft them.
  • Ranged options. Spells or arrows aimed at the face work for players with the right build and distance. Aiming while stationary exposes you to the golem’s attacks, so this is the riskier option.

Standard golems: toppling them through the legs

On a standard golem, the legs can be staggered until the whole body falls. Once it is down, you can attack the exposed stone face.

  1. Mount Torrent and approach the golem. Staying at range and waiting for an opening gives you less damage per attack.
  2. Attack either leg repeatedly until the golem staggers and falls. Stay on the move to keep out of reach of the stomp.
  3. Once the golem is down, attack the head or the stone face. PowerPyx recommends staying mounted and targeting the head after the fall. GameSpot describes a critical melee strike at the stone face. Both approaches hit the same weak point.
  4. If the golem gets back up before you finish it, repeat the leg stagger.

Reading the foot attacks

The golem’s two stomp patterns are different, and reacting to them correctly is what keeps the fight safe. Automaton West describes them as follows.

  • Single-foot stomp. A horizontal fire wave travels along the ground. Jump it with Torrent.
  • Double-foot stomp. When both feet glow, the golem creates a broad wave that covers the area around its feet. Automaton West says this wave cannot be jumped over, so move away as soon as both feet light up.

Armored-leg golems

Armored legs prevent the leg attacks from toppling the golem. The method changes completely. GameSpot recommends a nearby elevated platform, with Hefty Furnace Pots thrown into the basket on the golem’s head or ranged spells aimed at the stone mask. Windows Central gives the same basic advice: ranged damage to the face, or pots thrown into the basket.

  1. Find a vantage point that is higher than the golem’s head, such as a ledge or a ruin. Use nearby spiritsprings or terrain where they are available.
  2. Throw Hefty Furnace Pots into the basket or cast ranged spells at the stone mask.
  3. Keep an eye out for homing fireballs when you are on a small ledge, since there is less room to dodge.

This method depends on resources. It needs a safe spot, pots or magic, and enough distance to avoid the golem’s attacks. If you run out of pots, the fight becomes much harder.

Dormant golem at Ruins of Unte

The sleeping golem at Ruins of Unte is not active until you wake it. Climb the adjacent ruins to gain elevation, then throw a Hefty Furnace Pot into the basket to wake it. Automaton West reports that crafting a pot for this takes 2 Redflesh Mushrooms, 2 Embers of Messmer, and 1 Furnace Visage. GameSpot notes that defeating the sleeping golem opens access to the ruins proper.

Attack patterns across the golems

GameSpot describes three attacks: stomp eruptions, homing fireballs, and a straight-line beam. Not every golem uses every move in the same circumstances, so do not assume the pattern on one golem will match another. The beam attack is the one to watch on the bridge at Rauh, where GameSpot warns that it can catch you while you cross.

Rewards from each golem

Each defeated golem drops a Furnace Visage, which you use to craft Hefty Furnace Pots. It also drops a unique Crystal Tear for the Flask of Wondrous Physick. GameSpot lists examples of the tears reported from these kills: Deflecting Hardtear, Crimsonburst Dried Tear, Cerulean-Sapping Cracked Tear, Crimson-Sapping Cracked Tear, Viridian Hidden Tear, Glovewort Crystal Tear, Oil-Soaked Tear, and Bloodsucking Cracked Tear. Which tear comes from which golem is not stated in the sources consulted.

Source dates and patch limits

The locations and strategy in this guide come from guides published between June 20 and June 26, 2024, and were checked against their content as of October 2026. The mechanics they describe are likely stable, but later game patches can change enemy behavior, drop tables and locations. The team behind this article did not run its own fights to confirm these steps. If a golem behaves differently from the descriptions above, follow what you see on screen.
