Spirit Beasts are Exotic hunter pets, so you generally need to be a Beast Mastery hunter to tame them. Their locations range from roaming rare spawns to quest- and interaction-based encounters, and no source here establishes a complete, current list of every Spirit Beast. Use the locations below as leads, then confirm a target’s tameability and access requirements in your current game version before committing to a long search.
What to know before searching
- Check your specialization and the target. Spirit Beasts are Exotic pets; Beast Mastery is the relevant specialization. Blizzard’s 2021 forum explanation says Beast Lore can show whether a creature is tameable and Exotic, but it is not a current patch reference. See Blizzard’s Beast Lore and pet-family discussion.
- Prepare your character. Learn Tame Beast, make room in your stable, dismiss your active pet, and check whether travel, quest progress, faction, or phase access could block you from reaching the target.
- Search routes, not just coordinates. Many targets roam. Scan the whole patrol area rather than waiting at one point, and clear nearby hostile mobs so they do not interrupt a tame.
- Verify before camping. Pet systems and requirements can change; Blizzard’s Shadowlands hunter pet notes are one historical example. Check the live game or a current specialist reference for present-day tameability, phase, and prerequisites.
For the broader game gallery, Blizzard historically described its Pets and Mounts collection as dynamically sourced from the game. That announcement does not establish that the gallery is currently available or complete: Blizzard’s Pets and Mounts collection announcement.
Spirit Beast locations by expansion and zone
The locations below are reported leads, not a guaranteed exhaustive checklist. Patrols and access conditions can vary with game version, character progress, and phase. Where the available guide gives only a broad area, treat it as a search region rather than a precise spawn coordinate.
Wrath of the Lich King
| Pet | Zone | Search area and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Loque’nahak | Sholazar Basin | Roams across multiple points, including the areas around Nesingwary Base Camp, Skyreach Pillar, and Glimmering Pillar. |
| Gondria | Zul’Drak | Search central and eastern parts of the zone; the reported locations are spread out. |
| Skoll | The Storm Peaks | Patrol areas include Snowdrift Plains, Bor’s Breath, and the vicinity of Brunnhildar Village. |
| Arcturis | Grizzly Hills | Named in the guide’s prose and FAQ, but omitted from its location table; confirm current spawn and tameability before searching. |
Cataclysm
| Pet | Zone | Search area and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Ghostcrawler | Vashj’ir | Search underwater in Abyssal Depths, including western seafloor and trench routes. |
| Ban’thalos | Mount Hyjal | Reported to circle high above Sanctuary of Malorne. The guide flags a careful, safe pull as part of the challenge. |
| Ankha | Mount Hyjal | Reported in the Regrowth patrol area, near Magria’s route; the guide notes a special challenge mechanic. |
| Magria | Mount Hyjal | Reported in the Regrowth patrol area, near Ankha’s route; the guide notes a special challenge mechanic. |
| Karoma | Twilight Highlands | Several patrol points are reported, including the river, Vermillion Redoubt, and eastern highlands. |
Mists of Pandaria
| Pet | Zone or source | Search area and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Gumi | Krasarang Wilds | Reported in the southern wilds. The guide describes a kiting-related tame mechanic; verify the current method before engaging. |
| Hutia | The Jade Forest | Reported in forested areas north of Pearlfin Village. The guide flags an active taming mechanic. |
| Degu | Valley of the Four Winds | Reported among fields and roads in the central valley. The guide flags an active taming mechanic. |
| Patrannache | Valley of the Four Winds | Reported to follow a long patrol route, so scan a wide area. |
| Cloud Serpent Spirit Beasts | Pandaria and related sources | The guide notes Cloud Serpent taming requirements, but does not establish which appearances or access steps are currently available. Check the specific target in-game. |
| Elegon | Mogu’shan Vaults | The guide describes a tame attempt reached through the raid encounter. Confirm current encounter and tame conditions before planning a run. |
Warlords of Draenor
| Pet | Zone or source | Search area and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Gara | Shadowmoon Valley and related steps | This is a multi-step, quest-like process involving a Void encounter, not a straightforward rare-spawn camp. The guide does not provide a verified current walkthrough. |
Legion
| Pet | Zone or source | Search area and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Bulvinkel | Stormheim | Reported along mountain paths north of Hrydshal. |
| Hati | Hunter-related content | The guide identifies Hati as a quest-related tame but does not include a current step-by-step route or establish current prerequisites. Check the relevant hunter content in-game. |
Battle for Azeroth
| Pet | Zone | Search area and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Lightning Paw | Duskwood | Reported hidden in bushes; the guide mentions using a flare or targeting to locate it. Confirm the current interaction. |
City and later-content leads
| Pet | Reported source | Access caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Gon | Orgrimmar | The guide says to begin with a spectral egg in the Valley of Spirits. Faction and access details are not established here. |
| Lost Spectral Gryphon | Stormwind City | The guide says to trigger the encounter from a spectral feather near the gryphon area. Faction and access details are not established here. |
| Nah’qi | Amirdrassil-related content | The guide describes a spectral owl with specific access conditions, but does not establish a current, verified route. |
Which targets need more than rare-spawn camping?
Some reported Spirit Beasts require a different plan from watching a patrol route. The source guide identifies Gara and Hati as quest-related, Elegon as a raid encounter, and Gon and the Lost Spectral Gryphon as object-triggered leads. It also flags special taming or pull mechanics for Ban’thalos, Ankha, Magria, Gumi, Hutia, and Degu. Because the guide is not a current verified walkthrough, check the target’s live requirements before beginning a sequence or encounter.

How complete is this location list?
It is not safe to treat this as every Spirit Beast in WoW. The May 20, 2026 guide by Position Is Everything lists locations but omits or handles inconsistently several names: Arcturis appears in its prose and FAQ but not its table, and Hati is mentioned outside the table. A Warcraft Wiki category search result reported 29 category pages and included names such as Myonix and Pashya that are not covered above; the category page itself could not be opened, so that result is a signal to verify omissions, not a definitive current roster. See the Warcraft Wiki Spirit Beasts category and the May 2026 location guide as starting references, then confirm each candidate in the current client.
