The September 28, 2025 guide from The Escapist lists 20 Dark Zones across Farmlands, Recreation Island, Villa Area, Old Town, and Industrial Zone. Here is each location and its listed unique reward, with repeated site names tied to their area. Because this is a dated guide rather than a current official inventory, check your in-game map markers for changes in later patches.

The Escapist’s September 28, 2025 list gives one unique reward for each of these 20 locations. The source says the special reward is one-time, while ordinary enemies and resources respawn. What Dark Zones contain
Dark Zones are abandoned, infested interiors such as shops and schools. They are worth visiting for crafting components as well as the location-specific collectible. Dying Light franchise director Tymon Smektała wrote in Xbox Wire’s September 19, 2025 survival guide: “Explore Dark Zones, where you will find many components to craft. Each Dark zone also contains a unique item, for people who like collecting!” Read the Xbox Wire survival guide.
How to prepare for a Dark Zone
- Bring lockpicks. Locked doors and containers can conceal loot; The Escapist recommends carrying at least two.
- Unlock a nearby safe zone. Techland’s guidance notes that safe zones let you pass time, use a stash, and access a workbench.
- Craft tools and weapons before entering. Techland recommends preparing equipment and choosing fights carefully, because noise can attract more infected.
Techland’s Update 1.5, dated December 17, 2025, introduced Nightmare Experience and says some Dark Zones may contain Volatiles during the day. Resources are also more limited in that experience. The Escapist’s earlier observation that enemy numbers did not appear to change between day and night in the Dark Zones it observed predates that update; it should not be treated as a guarantee for Nightmare Experience or later versions.

Check the map and mode before you go
Use the area name as well as the site name when planning a route: Nate Market appears in three different areas, while Taurus Gas Station and Hardware Store each appear in two. The list above reflects The Escapist’s published locations and rewards, not an official Techland master inventory. If a marker or reward differs in your game, follow the current in-game map, particularly after patches.
