NBA 2K27 was the best-selling full game in the US for August 2026, according to Circana data reported by GamesIndustry.biz and other outlets. It ranked No. 1 for the month and No. 3 among games sold year to date. The reported chart covers August 2–29 and ranks full-game dollar sales, not units.
What the August chart says
NBA 2K27 took the top spot in the reported US monthly ranking, despite arriving near the end of the tracking window. GamesIndustry.biz reported that it reached No. 1 within four days of that period. That is a chart-position claim, not evidence of how many copies sold or how many people played.

GamesIndustry.biz and other coverage attribute the ranking to Circana. The figures here are secondary reporting; a directly accessed Circana chart release was not available. The ranking should therefore be read as reported, rather than as a separately verified sales total.

Why No. 1 does not mean the most copies sold
The cited chart measure is full-game dollar sales. A higher ranking can reflect revenue rather than unit volume, so it does not establish that NBA 2K27 sold more copies than every other game. Nor does the ranking disclose player counts, profitability, or lifetime sales.
How it reached No. 1 so quickly
The chart tracked August 2–29, 2026, and GamesIndustry.biz said NBA 2K27 reached the top spot within four days of the tracking period. The timing of early access is reported inconsistently: Take-Two’s July 22 announcement listed August 28 as the planned early-access start for Deluxe and Ultra owners, while coverage carried by TheFly/TipRanks gave August 26. The available information does not resolve that discrepancy, so the dates should not be combined into a single asserted release date.

Take-Two’s announcement lists the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. It announced Standard at $69.99, Deluxe at $99.99, and a limited-time Ultra edition at $149.99; these are announcement prices, not confirmation of current retail pricing.
The broader US market was down
Circana figures reported by GamesIndustry.biz and TheFly/TipRanks put total US video-game spending in August at about $4.3 billion, down 9% year over year. Content spending was about $3.8 billion, down 10%. Spending on subscriptions rose 3%, PC content rose 13%, and console content fell 7%. These market trends provide context for NBA 2K27’s chart result, but do not explain the game’s individual sales.

GamesIndustry.biz and TheFly/TipRanks also reported a 631% increase in spending on Game-Key Card physical releases. That is a change in spending on that release format, not a measure of total game sales or unit volume.
Separately, VGChartz reported Circana hardware figures of 559,000 US hardware units sold in August, the lowest August total since 2013, and an average new-hardware price of $541, described as an August record. These are hardware measures, distinct from the full-game dollar-sales ranking.
