CD Projekt Red says bringing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to Nintendo Switch 2 grew from a possible hardware upgrade into part of the broader Remastered project. Senior Publishing Producer Oleg Shatulo discussed the remaster’s goals, save transfers, Switch 2 DLSS and platform features in an October 8, 2026 interview with RPG Site. His comments describe the team’s intentions and plans; they are not independent performance tests.
Why is The Witcher 3 being remastered?
Shatulo says the remaster is intended to update more than the game’s visuals. The team wanted to modernize gameplay and technology, address friction identified through years of player feedback, and preserve what made the original distinctive. The areas he cited include combat, character progression, controls, the user interface, accessibility and technical presentation.

He said the effort came together as the team looked to push its technology alongside development of the new expansion Songs of the Past. That framing matters: the stated goal is to refine and modernize the existing game, not replace its identity.
Why bring the game to Switch 2?
The Switch 2 project began as a possible straightforward upgrade after CD Projekt Red’s work on Cyberpunk 2077 for the system. Shatulo said, “After our experience bringing Cyberpunk 2077 to Nintendo Switch 2, bringing The Witcher 3 to the platform felt like a natural next step.”

As the wider Remastered effort developed for current-generation platforms, the Switch 2 work became part of it rather than a separate upgrade. Shatulo said the newer hardware gave the team more room to improve visuals and performance compared with the original Switch. That describes the opportunity and intent, not a measured comparison.
How Switch-to-Switch 2 save transfer works
Moving a save from the original Switch release to the Switch 2 Remastered version is not automatic just because the old save is stored on the console. Shatulo says players must use CD PROJEKT RED Account cross-progression to upload the original Switch save, then continue with it in Remastered.
The interview describes the account-based cross-progression process, but does not give a step-by-step menu path. It also does not say that simply detecting a local Switch save will trigger a transfer.
Which versions can share saves?
Shatulo says saves from an older game version can move forward into Remastered, but a Remastered save cannot be moved back to an older version. He points to changes such as a revamped skill tree as one reason backward compatibility is difficult. Across supported Remastered platforms, players can share compatible saves using cross-progression.

Achievements and trophies are tracked separately by each platform. Shatulo says they do not automatically unlock when a player imports a save through cross-progression. For same-platform upgrades, save data and achievement or trophy progress carry forward according to his account; Switch 2 is an exception to the update-delivery approach.
What does the interview say about Switch 2 DLSS?
CD Projekt Red drew on its Switch 2 work on Cyberpunk 2077 as a foundation, but Shatulo says the same implementation could not simply be dropped into The Witcher 3. The game has a different rendering pipeline, content and performance profile, so the team tuned DLSS to balance image quality and performance.
The interview gives no resolution, frame-rate or image-quality benchmark figures. It therefore establishes that DLSS was tuned for this game, but not how the finished version performs in a test or how it compares numerically with another platform.
What is confirmed about controls and PC versions?
Platform-specific controls
The interview says the game carries forward DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, and supports Switch 2 HD Rumble 2, mouse controls, gyro aiming and motion controls. Shatulo says CD Projekt Red developed the Switch 2 and PS5 Pro versions without direct participation from Nintendo or Sony developers, while both platform holders provided platform-specific guidance and support.

Microsoft Store and Xbox Play Anywhere
The Microsoft Store Play Anywhere release is described as a standalone PC version, separate from Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and Battle.net editions. Shatulo says it will have feature parity with the other PC versions and support movement between Xbox and PC through Play Anywhere.
Handheld PC priorities
Shatulo says parity with the DX12 version of the Next-Gen release was a priority, including on Steam Deck, and that visual improvements were not meant to come at the expense of lower-powered PC hardware. This is a development goal, not an independently verified performance result.

Asked whether Switch 2 would get a 60fps mode later and whether PS5 Pro would receive additional ray tracing, Shatulo replied, “We have nothing to share here.” The interview confirms neither feature nor a future update for them. That answer is not evidence that either has been cancelled.
What else remains unanswered?
Shatulo also had nothing to share in the interview about new music, a The Witcher 2 remaster, a physical release or a new artbook. He said Remastered has no new region-specific content changes beyond requirements already present in earlier versions under applicable local rules.
