Not automatically. Australian employees can request annual leave for Grand Theft Auto VI’s November 19, 2026 launch, but they need their employer’s agreement before taking it. An employer must not unreasonably refuse a request; that does not guarantee approval for the date you choose.
Can I take the day off work for GTA 6?
You can request annual leave for launch day. The Fair Work Ombudsman says you must ask before taking leave, and the timing and length of leave are agreed between you and your employer. There is no minimum or maximum amount of annual leave that can be taken at once when both sides agree. That means requesting a single day—or part of a day—is possible, but it is not approved until your employer agrees.
Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a planned launch date of November 19, 2026. Its customer-support page was last updated August 18, 2026; release details can change. Rockstar’s GTA VI platforms, editions and versions information.
How much paid annual leave do you have?
Under the general Fair Work system, non-casual employees accumulate paid annual leave continuously based on ordinary hours worked. The Fair Work Ombudsman’s guidance, accessed October 8, 2026, gives these entitlements:

- Five weeks per year of service for qualifying shiftworkers. Whether you qualify depends on the applicable award or registered agreement and its conditions.

Can your boss refuse the request?
The Fair Work Ombudsman says an employer must not unreasonably refuse an employee’s request to take annual leave. Whether a refusal is reasonable depends on the circumstances and the applicable workplace instrument; the general rule does not give every employee an unconditional right to a particular day off.

If your request is declined, ask for the reason and check the leave-request procedure and terms in your award, registered agreement, employment contract or workplace policy. For help with a specific workplace issue, consult the Fair Work Ombudsman’s annual leave guidance.
What if you are casual or do not have enough leave?
Casual employees do not receive paid annual leave. If you are casual, or your accrued balance does not cover the day, you can ask about unpaid leave or another arrangement with your employer. The general guidance does not establish an automatic right to unpaid recreational leave, so get agreement before making plans.

How to request November 19 off
- Check your balance and workplace rules. Review your applicable award, registered agreement, employment contract and workplace policy for the request process and any relevant leave conditions.
- Ask as soon as practical. Request November 19, 2026 through your workplace’s usual process, and state whether you want a full day or part of a day.
- Wait for confirmation. Do not treat the request as approved until your employer agrees.
- If refused, ask why. Check the reason against the general requirement that refusals not be unreasonable and the terms that apply to your job. If you need help assessing a specific issue, use the Fair Work Ombudsman’s guidance.
Check public holidays against your roster
If a public holiday falls on a day you would ordinarily work while you are on paid annual leave, it is generally treated as a public holiday and is not deducted from your annual-leave balance. Whether that affects your plans depends on your ordinary roster and the calendar where you work. Check the Fair Work Ombudsman’s public holiday guidance and your location’s calendar.
