What is Aftergods?
Aftergods is a new action RPG from Norsfell, the studio behind Tribes of Midgard. Norsfell describes it as both an evolution of that work and a new title. Its announcement presents a mix of top-down combat, survival crafting, mythic bosses, and cooperative play; these are announced features, not independently verified gameplay impressions. What is the setting and story?
The game takes place in a handcrafted open world after Ragnarok. Players are Godborn—descendants of gods who survived the cataclysm—and set out to restore the shattered Seeds of the World Tree and rebalance the cosmos. Norsfell names Greek, Egyptian, and Norse pantheons, alongside traditions yet to be discovered; players will be able to choose lineages and classes. Steam’s listing also summarizes the post-Ragnarok premise: Aftergods on Steam.
Norsfell creative director Julian Maroda described the premise as a question about what happens when gods lose their source of divinity and their world collapses. He also said the project expands beyond Norse lore into interconnected world mythologies.

What gameplay features has Norsfell announced?
Combat, survival, and Nectar
The announced feature set combines top-down action combat, survival crafting, and mythic boss battles. Godborn rely on a scarce resource called Nectar: when it runs out, a character reverts to a vulnerable mortal form. The announcement does not provide further specifics on how Nectar is replenished or how combat systems work.
Followers, crafting, and bases
Followers can help with base building, crafting, harvesting, and storage. The announcement identifies these roles but does not detail progression systems or the extent of follower management.
Shapeshifting and traversal
Players can shapeshift into mythical creatures to travel across terrain, water, and air. Norsfell has not specified which creatures are available or how this ability is unlocked.
Solo and cooperative play
Norsfell says the game can be played solo or cooperatively, online or offline. The announcement also names peer-to-peer hosting and dedicated server rentals. It describes native controller support and handheld optimization as development goals; those statements are not independent assessments of compatibility or performance.
