Stronghold 4 is scheduled to release on Steam on December 7, 2026. That date is for the Early Access launch, not the full 1.0 version. Firefly Studios announced the date on October 8, 2026, and the Steam store page shows the same date with the label “Coming Soon To Early Access,” so the game cannot be downloaded yet.
What the December 7 date actually means
Firefly’s announcement states: “Stronghold 4 releases on Steam on December 7th!” The Steam listing confirms the date and says the game is not yet available. Readers should treat December 7 as the start of Early Access, a development phase in which buyers play an unfinished build while features are added. Steam’s developer text says Firefly expects Early Access to last around six months, “however this could change.”

Demo availability and the October 19 Skirmish Mode
A demo was made available on the October 8 announcement date. It is being released in two parts:
- Free Build: available now.
- Skirmish Mode: scheduled to arrive during Steam Next Fest on October 19, 2026.
An older Firefly support FAQ refers to a June 23 demo. That reference predates the current announcement, so it does not describe current availability.

What Stronghold 4 is
Steam describes Stronghold 4 as a narrative prequel set years before the original game, following Penryn of Wethel. The store text combines a cinematic campaign with castle customization, medieval economy and siege systems, skirmish modes, a skirmish trail, and Free Build. Firefly’s announcement highlights castle customization and advanced economy design in particular.

These are features the developer advertises on its store page. No independent testing or review findings were available when this article was prepared, so performance and balance claims remain unverified.
Early Access roadmap
Steam’s store text lists planned additions for version 1.0. The developer has said the plan may change, and that the price may rise during Early Access as features and content are added.

The Steam page lists the following PC specifications. These are the developer’s listed requirements, not independent benchmarks, and they could change before release. Both tiers require 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, DirectX 12, broadband internet, 16 GB RAM, and 33 GB of available storage. An SSD is recommended in both cases.

Where to buy and who publishes it
Steam is the only platform named in the announcement and the store listing, so it is the only confirmed purchase destination. Firefly Studios is listed as both developer and publisher on Steam. The official Stronghold 4 website identifies Firefly Holdings Limited as the owner of the title and the website.

Release dates, demo rollout, the Early Access roadmap, pricing, and PC requirements can all change. The developer announcement and the Steam listing are the places to check for updates.
