When are Sett and Samira coming to 2XKO?
Riot’s October 8, 2026 news listing says Sett and Samira will arrive together on October 27, completing the roster. Sett may be the surprise character in the headline, but Riot’s listing describes the two fighters as the final roster additions rather than calling Sett a surprise. Riot’s announcement.
Is 2XKO shutting down?
No shutdown has been announced. Riot’s August 20 update says the game’s servers will remain online beyond 2026 and that offline play will be unaffected. Riot also said 2XKO would remain free to download on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. These are Riot’s announced plans; the company notes that dates and communications may change. Riot said it plans to unlock all champions for all players. Ranked lobbies are to be disabled, while casual matchmaking is planned to remain skill-matched and private lobbies unaffected.

What does the end of active development mean for updates?
Riot says active development is scheduled to conclude at the end of 2026. The October update is planned as the final major content patch, with the remaining cosmetics added to the Ultimate Bundle. Riot has also described a December patch as optional: if released, it would focus principally on bug fixes and would not bring major new content.
This distinction matters: active development ending is not the same as servers going offline. Riot’s stated plan preserves access to online and offline play while ending the regular flow of major new content.

Why is Riot ending active development?
Riot attributed the decision to retention and operating costs. In its August 20 update, the company said, “we haven’t seen enough players stick with the game to get to a path toward sustainability.” Riot also said the game costs substantially more to operate than it earns. Those are Riot’s qualitative explanations; its cited updates do not provide player-count, revenue, or retention figures.
The decision follows an earlier warning about momentum. Tom Cannon wrote in Riot’s February 9, 2026 update: “The game has resonated with a passionate core audience, but overall momentum hasn’t reached the level needed to support a team of this size long term.”

2XKO’s announced timeline
- August 20, 2026: Riot announced the end-of-year active-development cutoff, disabled KO Points purchases, and began refunding eligible purchases made before August 20.
- September 8, 2026: Riot’s roadmap scheduled Patch 1.3.1 and Lux’s release, alongside changes to progression, ranked matchmaking, cosmetics, and private lobbies.
- October 2026: Patch 1.3.3 and Samira were planned, along with the remaining Ultimate Bundle cosmetics and the final major content patch.
- October 27, 2026: Samira and Sett are scheduled to complete the roster.
- December 2026: An optional bug-fix patch may follow, without major new content.
- After 2026: Riot says servers will stay online and offline play will remain unaffected.
What players should know about purchases and refunds
Riot disabled KO Points purchases on August 20, 2026, and began processing refunds for eligible purchases made before that date. Refund timing varies by platform and region, so players seeking an individual refund should consult Riot’s announcement for the applicable details.
