- Nurture and Protect Social Experiences: Changes should support the social interactions that are part of the original game’s appeal.
- Approachable and Familiar: The game should remain recognizable and accessible within the design tradition of vanilla WoW.
- World as the Main Character: The world itself should remain central to the experience.
- Journey before destination: The process of playing and progressing matters, not only the end goal.
The team said these principles developed through playing different versions of Classic and have a firm basis in vanilla WoW. They describe Blizzard’s reported decision-making approach, not a guarantee that every feature will match every player’s personal definition of “classic.”
How does Blizzard plan to stay true to vanilla WoW?
The team characterizes WoW: Forever as an extension of the original vanilla world, with new material built on top of it while preserving its core design, pacing, and tone. As the team put it, “We keep it classic by adhering firmly to our design pillars when we consider any new change we introduce.”

That framework addresses a basic tension: adding to the game without changing the qualities that make its original world and progression feel distinctive. The interview describes the pillars as the test for proposed changes, but does not provide specific feature examples or measurable criteria for how each pillar will be applied.
What will WoW: Forever’s visuals look like?
Blizzard says it is aiming for a middle ground: not assets that look as if they were made in 2004, and not assets rendered at modern WoW fidelity. The team describes the target as a vanilla-era level of fidelity, with Vanilla, Burning Crusade, and Wrath of the Lich King as examples of a plausible visual range.

The team also says WoW: Forever uses updated lighting and rendering, so new assets need to work alongside older ones while taking advantage of newer technology. Its stated goal is “WoW as you remember it, not as it was.” That phrase reflects the team’s aim; it is not a promise to reproduce every player’s memories or a detailed specification of the final art style.
What did Blizzard say about bots and real-money trading?
TechRadar’s report says the team is monitoring real-money trading and working to mitigate botting, with violations potentially resulting in permanent bans. The report does not provide enforcement details, estimates of the scale of either issue, or a fuller policy statement.
