2XKO editor-in-chief Ben “Draggles” Forbes said the team began building Sett after Riot’s February 2026 layoffs and completed him in six months. The timeline comes from Forbes as quoted in an Insider Gaming report published October 8, 2026; Riot’s official updates confirm the team reduction and the game’s planned development end, but do not independently confirm Sett’s production schedule.
What Forbes said about Sett’s development
Forbes, 2XKO’s editor-in-chief, said work on Sett began after the February layoffs, and that the team built him in six months. In the account published by Insider Gaming, Forbes also said the team did not know until around August whether it would be able to release him.
That makes the timeline a reported statement from Forbes, not an independently verified Riot production figure. The reviewed Riot announcements do not give a development schedule for Sett. Forbes also described Sett as not having been planned or delayed from the start, but as a character the team brought to life on a compressed timeline.
How the timeline fits 2XKO’s 2026 plans
- February 2026: Riot announced a reduction in the 2XKO team. Executive producer Tom Cannon said the game had a passionate core audience, but not enough overall momentum to support a team of that size long term. Riot also said affected employees would receive at least six months’ notice pay and severance where an internal role was unavailable. Riot’s February team update does not state the resulting team headcount.
- January 29, 2026: Game director Shaun Rivera’s 2026 development update outlined planned work on duo play, core gameplay, community spaces, and competitive support. It was published before Riot announced the end of active development.
- August 20, 2026: Riot announced that active development would end at the end of 2026. Its remaining roadmap included content, improvements, two announced champions, and a final bug-fix patch planned for December. Riot said the servers would remain online beyond 2026. Riot’s development-end announcement does not identify Sett’s production timeline.
- October 8, 2026: Insider Gaming published Forbes’s account of the six-month build and the uncertainty about release lasting until around August.
What the six-month figure does—and does not—show
The figure describes the time Forbes said the team spent building Sett. It is not a published production benchmark, and the available reporting does not establish a comparable schedule for other fighting-game characters. It also does not reveal the size of the team after the layoffs or how work was divided. Those details should not be inferred from the phrase “remaining team.”

What players can expect after active development ends
Riot says 2XKO will remain free to download on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S after active development concludes. Servers are planned to stay online beyond 2026, and community tournament organizers may continue running events under Riot’s community competition guidelines. Riot has also said a final bug-fix patch is planned for December 2026. The end of active development therefore does not mean the game will immediately become unavailable, though Riot has not said that active development or new content will continue beyond its announced roadmap.
