There is not enough verified evidence to name five classic PSP games that are wholly unplayable today. A game disappearing from digital stores or losing online multiplayer is not the same as a game that cannot be played at all. Whether a particular title remains playable depends on its physical release, regional availability, offline features and any required servers.
What does “unplayable” mean for a PSP game?
Three different problems are often collapsed into one claim:
- No longer sold digitally: the game may be unavailable to buy through a particular store, while existing copies or other legitimate versions may still work.
- Online features shut down: multiplayer or other network functions may be gone, but offline play can remain intact.
- Genuinely unplayable: the game cannot be started or completed because it depends on an unavailable service and has no workable offline route.
Only the third meaning supports calling a game wholly unplayable. A storefront closure or server shutdown on its own does not establish that.
Are PSP games still playable?
Sony’s support notice says the PSP Store closed in 2016. It also says, “You’ll still be able to purchase and play PSP content that is available on the PS3 and PS Vita stores.” The qualification matters: it refers only to content available on those stores, not every PSP title. Sony says new PSP content cannot be purchased through its web or mobile store. PlayStation Support’s notice describes purchase routes; it does not establish the present availability or playability of any particular game in every region.

PlayStation announced on July 1, 2026 that PS3 and PS Vita storefront closures would occur in stages: some markets during 2026, with the remaining markets scheduled for July 2027. This is a change to storefront access, not evidence that PSP discs stop working or that existing downloads immediately become unplayable. Check the PlayStation announcement and your regional store status before relying on a digital purchase route.
Does a server shutdown make a PSP game unplayable?
Not necessarily. Losing official online multiplayer can remove that feature without preventing offline play. Ubisoft’s notice about the games it lists states, “Please note that the offline features of the games are unaffected and remain available to you.” That statement applies to those listed games, not to every PSP game. Ubisoft’s A–M legacy-services notice and its N–Z notice describe the affected services and titles.

For PlayStation games, online requirements are title-specific. PlayStation’s game-server support page is a place to check whether a listed title depends on online services. A server listing or shutdown should be interpreted as evidence about the relevant online functions; it does not by itself prove that the game’s offline content is inaccessible.

The official information available here establishes store-policy changes and general facts about retired online services, but it does not verify five named PSP games as wholly unplayable. Naming titles without checking their specific editions and access routes would turn a plausible loss of access into an unsupported claim.

A defensible title-by-title assessment would need to establish all of the following:
- Whether the game had a physical PSP release.
- Whether a legitimate digital version remains available in the reader’s region.
- Whether the game can be played offline, including whether its main content requires a network connection.
- Whether an essential server is still operating, and whether any documented alternative service exists.
Those checks can produce different answers for the same game depending on edition, region and whether the player already owns a copy. The available evidence does not answer them for five specific titles, so “five PSP games that are unplayable today” is not a supportable list on this basis.

What to check before buying or revisiting a PSP game
- Identify the exact game and edition. Confirm whether you mean a PSP release, rather than a later port or another version with different online requirements.
- Check the access route in your region. Look for a legitimate physical copy or a currently listed digital version. Sony’s notice does not guarantee that a particular title is listed in your market.
- Confirm the required hardware and condition. A used PSP is the most direct hardware route for compatible PSP physical games, but compatibility should be checked for the exact game and listing; used condition and regional availability vary.
- Separate offline content from network features. Check the game’s own requirements and relevant publisher or PlayStation service notices rather than inferring total loss from an online shutdown.
