Nothing in the reporting shows the hub is live now, and it is separate from the limited home-screen redesign some players saw in April 2026.
What the reported hub is
PlayStation LifeStyle reported on October 8, 2026 that Sony Interactive Entertainment had announced a new home-screen destination for PS5 built around anime. According to that report, the hub would do two things: surface anime and anime-inspired games, and give players direct access to the full Crunchyroll app from the console.
The report quotes the purported Sony press release. The first line frames the purpose: “Anime and gaming have deeply engaged and overlapping fan communities, and the new experience will bring those worlds closer together on PlayStation 5.” A second line describes the intended audience: “Whether longtime anime fans or discovering a series through a game, character, or world they already love, players will have a dedicated place to discover anime and anime-inspired games and easily access the full Crunchyroll app.”
Sony’s own announcement could not be confirmed at the time of writing, so these quotations should be read as printed by PlayStation LifeStyle rather than as independently verified Sony text.

When it is expected
The only timing reported is an approximate Spring 2027 window. No exact launch date has been given, and the reporting does not say which countries or regions will get the hub first. Treat “Spring 2027” as a target, not a commitment.
How it differs from the April 2026 UI redesign
Many readers will connect this with the earlier PS5 interface change, but the two are different features. The April change altered the console’s top-level categories. The Crunchyroll hub is a service-specific destination.

What happened to the April redesign
PlayStation LifeStyle’s June 4, 2026 report said Sony reverted the April changes the following month. The October report does not describe any later development on that redesign. These are press reports, not an official Sony statement about the status of the feature, so the reversal should be treated as reported rather than confirmed by Sony.
Do you need to download anything?
No download is described for the Crunchyroll hub, and the October report does not tie it to a particular system software version. That is different from saying a download will never be needed. Sony’s PS5 system software support page advises keeping system software current in general, but that guidance does not establish when this hub will reach a console.

If you want to be ready in any case, keep your console up to date through the PS5 Settings menu and make sure the Crunchyroll app is installed from the PlayStation Store if you already use the service. Doing so does not depend on the hub and will not, by itself, make it appear.
What Sony has not specified
- An exact launch date, beyond the approximate Spring 2027 window.
- Which countries or regions receive the hub first.
- Whether a Crunchyroll membership is required to use the hub or the app access it links to.
- The final layout, navigation and appearance of the hub.
- Whether the hub depends on a specific system software release.
