Nintendo is letting Nintendo Switch Online members download and play the full Hello Kitty Island Adventure for Nintendo Switch at no additional cost from October 9, 2026 at 10 a.m. PT through October 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. PT. The offer is a time-limited Game Trial, not a permanent giveaway: the game stops being playable when the trial period ends or your membership expires.
What the offer actually is
The announcement comes from Nintendo Canada’s news listing, dated October 8, 2026. It says that during the promotion window, Nintendo Switch Online members can “download and try the full Hello Kitty Island Adventure game for the Nintendo Switch™ system at no additional cost.” The notice carries an asterisk pointing to membership terms, but the listing does not reproduce those terms, so the details below are the ones Nintendo states explicitly.
The word “free” needs one qualification. Nintendo Support defines the format this way: “A Game Trial is a free, downloadable full version of a game made available to Nintendo Switch Online members.” Two things separate it from a permanent free game. The access is limited to a set period, and it depends on an active membership. A Game Trial is also a complete version of the game, not a demo, so the restriction is on time and account status rather than on how much of the game you can see.
Do you need Nintendo Switch Online?
Yes. The offer is aimed at Nintendo Switch Online members, and the trial needs an active membership to remain playable. If you do not currently subscribe, the notice does not describe a route to the trial without one.

How to download the trial
Nintendo Support’s Game Trials guidance covers the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. For those regions, the general download route is the Nintendo eShop, using an account with an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. The steps are:
- On your Nintendo Switch, open the Nintendo eShop and sign in with the account that holds your Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- In the eShop menu, select Nintendo Switch Online to view the trials available to members.
- Find Hello Kitty Island Adventure in that list and download it.
- Launch the game from your home screen once the download finishes.
The Canadian notice does not describe a separate sign-up or code step, so the eShop route above is the one the support guidance documents.

What happens to your progress
Timing matters more here than anything else. The trial can be played only until the earlier of two events: the trial period ends on October 15 at 11:59 p.m. PT, or your Nintendo Switch Online membership expires. The table below shows how the main situations play out.

The save-data rule comes from Nintendo’s general Game Trials FAQ. Nintendo says trial save data is not deleted when a trial ends and can be used to continue if the game is purchased. The promotion announcement does not separately confirm this for Hello Kitty Island Adventure, so treat it as the standard behavior for Game Trials rather than a title-specific guarantee.

Where the offer is confirmed
The dates and terms are confirmed in the Canadian Nintendo notice. The support FAQ describes the download process for the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Neither source establishes whether the same window, eligibility, or membership requirement applies in other countries. If you live elsewhere, check your regional Nintendo eShop and news page before assuming the same October 15 deadline applies to you.
