Remedy’s position is clear. Interim CEO Markus Mäki told Game Developer in February 2026 that Control Resonant “does not use generative AI content at all.” The headline goes further than that: it attributes to composer Petri Alanko a call for studios to avoid “AI music,” and it includes a line about gamers and fans that the reporting we could check does not contain. Alanko’s 2026 interviews describe a human-led soundtrack process and a sense of duty to the story and the people who play it, but they do not contain a verdict on other studios.
Checking the headline against the reporting
The headline combines a verifiable studio statement with quotes and advice that the sources do not support. The table separates them.
| Claim in the headline | What the reporting shows | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Control Resonant does not use generative AI | Mäki’s remarks in an earnings Q&A, reported by Game Developer on February 10, 2026: the game “does not use generative AI content at all.” | Supported, as of February 2026 |
| The composer says studios should avoid “AI music” | Alanko describes his own recording and composing process and his duties to the story and its audience. No instruction to other studios was found in the coverage checked. | Not supported |
| Studios should care more about the soundtrack if they “value and respect your IP and your game” | This phrasing does not appear in the coverage checked. | Not verified |
| “Respect the client: the gamers, the fans, dammit” | This wording does not appear in the coverage checked. The closest verified statement is Alanko’s remark about responsibility to the story creator and to the people who enjoy the story (TechRadar, October 4, 2026). | Not verified as worded; do not attribute it as a quote |
Remedy’s position on generative AI in Control Resonant
Two 2026 statements from Remedy set out the studio-level position. They come from different people and make different points, so they should be read separately.
Markus Mäki: no generative AI content in the game
Game Developer reported on February 10, 2026 that Remedy interim CEO Markus Mäki, speaking in an earnings Q&A, said Control Resonant “does not use generative AI content at all.” Mäki also described varied interest in AI tools across Remedy’s crafts, said the company was following tool development, and tied any future use to ethical fit, player value and team interest. He declined to make far-reaching promises. His remarks describe the game and the company at that date. They are not a binding pledge covering every future Remedy project.

Sergey Mohov: a decision about creative authorship
In a PCGamesN interview published June 28, 2026, Remedy lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov described avoiding generative AI as a “pretty natural” decision. He said: “We’re very much artists and designers, and everybody really cares about making sure that the game is made by us.” He connected that to creative freedom. He also said music has long mattered in Remedy’s games and discussed “Manalan Mailla,” a custom-written song by Finnish folk singer Vilma Jää that appeared in a trailer and has a story connection. These are Mohov’s statements, not statements by the composer.
What composer Petri Alanko has said
Alanko is the composer of the Control Resonant soundtrack. Three TechRadar interviews published on October 2, 4 and 6, 2026 cover his process and values. The coverage checked does not record him commenting on generative AI.

How the sounds are made
Alanko says he records everyday sounds frequently, using an iPhone or a small dictaphone and sometimes a small field recorder. He then manipulates the captured sounds into rhythm, harmony or melody. On the game’s sound palette he said: “A lot of Control Resonant’s soundtrack is of that origin. The weirder, the better. There’s no ‘too weird’ for that.” He describes the work as meticulous. He also says Remedy has no rigid “audio bible” for brand usage, so choices depend on context, intuition and what fits (TechRadar, October 6, 2026).
Starting from concept art
In a TechRadar interview published October 2, 2026, Alanko said Remedy’s concept art and project presentations help him form musical ideas. He also described synesthesia as part of his own experience, saying pictures can have a sound in his head. That is his account of his personal process. It is not a general claim about how composers work, and it is not a clinical explanation.

A score as an emotional vessel
In a TechRadar interview published October 4, 2026, Alanko described a score as an “emotional vessel” for a story. He said the composer’s duty is to represent the story, and that the music should also be able to exist on its own. The statement closest to the headline’s theme is this: “I carry the responsibility of respecting both the story creator and especially those who enjoy the story.” This is the verified basis for the audience-respect idea. It is a statement about the composer’s own responsibility, not a rule for the industry.
