Developer Thunder Lotus describes Sundered as a Metroidvania and says the Eldritch Edition update includes optional local co-op for up to four players. How to choose a co-op Metroidvania
Genre fit alone does not tell you whether a game works well with a partner. Check the actual mode and how it interacts with the exploration loop.
- Local or online: Look for explicit support for couch co-op, native online multiplayer, or a platform feature such as Steam Remote Play Together. These are different ways to play.
- Player count: Confirm the maximum for the exact platform and mode. A co-op tag alone does not establish how many players can join.
- Exploration participation: Check whether both players can use abilities to open routes, interact with gates, and engage with upgrades, rather than having player two follow without meaningful access to progression.
- Combat readability: Consider whether two characters can fight effectively in the same space without making enemy cues or platforming difficult to read.
- Genre boundaries: Some games are adjacent action RPGs rather than strict Metroidvanias. Treating those as equivalents can make a list less useful.
Why this is not a ranked top ten
The available verified information supports two recommendations, not ten. A third-party list names Guacamelee!, Guacamelee! 2, Salt and Sanctuary, Salt and Sacrifice, Children of Morta, and Afterimage, but their co-op claims were not confirmed against developer or store pages here.
