How to interpret console sales numbers
Sony’s PS5 figures are cumulative sell-in: hardware units sold into distribution. Sell-through refers to units sold onward to customers. Those measures are not interchangeable, and a snapshot for a console still being sold should not be treated as its eventual lifetime total. The PS4 figure above is a dated milestone, so it cannot be compared as if it were a final total.
