Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If Disney Dreamlight Valley crashes on Nintendo Switch when you equip the Storybook Sword and Heroic Helmet during Chapter 5: The Big Red Monster, Gameloft’s support article lists four interim steps: fully restart the Switch, unequip both items and re-equip them one at a time, check that the console’s system software is up to date, and try equipping them in a different order. Gameloft documents this as a specific, equipment-triggered problem. The support pages it has published for other Switch crash patterns are older and do not provide a confirmed general fix.
What Gameloft has documented
Gameloft’s support results describe three Switch crash patterns that players search for, plus one multi-platform report. They differ in trigger, scope, and how current they appear, so treat them separately.
| Report | Trigger described | Platform scope | Listing update age (search metadata) | Status stated in the support result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Storybook Sword and Heroic Helmet crash | Equipping both items together during Chapter 5: The Big Red Monster | Nintendo Switch | About 49 days | Gameloft says the team is aware and working on a fix; interim steps listed |
| Random Switch crashes | No specific trigger given | Nintendo Switch | About 602 days | Gameloft says it is working on stability; no user troubleshooting steps given |
| Multi-platform crash report | Not stated as a single trigger | Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation | About 588 days | Does not establish current Switch stability |
| Crash entering deeper into Eternity Isle | Progressing into deeper Eternity Isle areas | Nintendo Switch | About 600 days | Mentions crashes appearing after an update; not presented as currently active |
The update ages come from search listing metadata, not from dates Gameloft published in the articles. They indicate how recently a page appears to have been refreshed, which matters when deciding whether a page describes a problem that still exists.
Storybook Sword and Heroic Helmet crash: the interim steps
This is the only Switch crash in the Gameloft results that comes with a list of steps. Work through them in order, and note the result after each one, because the sequence is what identifies which step helped.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
- Fully restart the Switch. Restarting only the game is not enough. Close Disney Dreamlight Valley, then shut the console down completely and power it back on.
- Unequip both items, restart, then equip them one at a time. Remove the Storybook Sword and the Heroic Helmet, restart the game, and equip one item. Test that it works before equipping the second.
- Check the console’s system software. In System Settings, go to System and then System Update, and confirm the Switch is running the latest system software available.
- Try equipping the items in a different order. If the crash returns when both are equipped, swap the sequence in which you equip them and test again.
These steps address the equipment-triggered case only. If your crash happens on startup, in another chapter, or while doing something unrelated to these two items, they are not the relevant fix.
If your crash follows a different pattern
The Gameloft results for random Switch crashes, multi-platform crashes, and Eternity Isle progression give no current, confirmed set of steps. The random-crash result says the team is working on stability but does not describe what players should do in the meantime. The Eternity Isle result mentions crashes after an update, but it is a historical listing and does not show that the problem is still happening.

In practice, that leaves you with a reporting task rather than a documented fix. Before contacting Gameloft through its official support channels, record:
- The exact moment the crash happens: startup, a specific quest or location, a menu, or a specific item action.
- Whether it happens every time or only occasionally.
- The game version and whether it changed recently.
- The Switch system software version shown in System Settings.
- The steps that reliably reproduce the crash, written in order.
Those details let Gameloft tell whether your crash matches a known report, and they make any reply more useful than a general description of the problem.

What is not established
The official material found does not show a current, broad fix for Switch crashes in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and no Nintendo support guide for this game’s crashes was located. The results do not state a crash rate, a failure count, or a named Gameloft spokesperson’s explanation of the cause.
There is also no official evidence that a physical accessory, storage product, or repair product fixes these crashes. Any software crash should be treated as a software problem until Gameloft or Nintendo says otherwise.

- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- 6.2” LCD screen.
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
Because the support results have different ages, the Storybook Sword and Heroic Helmet steps are the only part of this article that describes a currently documented issue. Confirm that the Gameloft page still reads the same way before relying on it, since support pages are sometimes edited or removed.
Do not assume that a fix for one pattern will also address another. A crash that appears only when equipping specific items and a crash that happens at random are different problems until a reproduction shows otherwise.
