Before giving it to Isaac, decide whether you want the genuine-book outcome or the family-preserving forgery route: Ibrahim can make a copy called On the Transit of Souls 2, which leads Isaac to abandon his plan.
Where to find On the Transference of Souls 2
The quest is called Short-Sighted Ambition and is given by Isaac, the apothecary in Bakbattahl. Once the quest asks you to find the second volume, travel to Ibrahim’s Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town. Walkthroughs list the genuine book at 2,000 G (IGN’s quest guide; Game8’s guide).
Quest-start descriptions vary: one guide says buying any item from Isaac can trigger the quest. Follow the active objectives in your quest log, since your current stage may differ. Isaac asks for a ripened quince before the search for the book; guides differ on how they describe the wait between stages, so rely on the quest prompt rather than a precise real-time estimate.
Choose which book to give Isaac
You can hand over the genuine tome, or pay Ibrahim to forge a similar-looking copy first. The names differ by one word: the genuine item is On the Transference of Souls 2; the forgery is On the Transit of Souls 2. Make sure you give Isaac the item that matches the outcome you want.

How to take the forgery route
- Get the genuine second volume. Buy On the Transference of Souls 2 from Ibrahim in Checkpoint Rest Town.
- Ask Ibrahim to forge it. The forged book is titled On the Transit of Souls 2. Walkthroughs list the forgery fee at 2,400 G.
- Wait for the copy and collect it. Allow the in-game wait Ibrahim specifies, then retrieve the forged volume from him.
- Return to Isaac and hand over the forgery. Follow him when the quest objective directs you to do so.
The exact wait guidance differs among walkthroughs, so use Ibrahim’s prompt and the quest log rather than relying on a fixed elapsed-time estimate. If you intend the tragic genuine-book outcome instead, give Isaac the original and do not substitute the forged title.

What happens to the first volume and Celestial Paean?
After the forgery route, a walkthrough reports that Isaac can later sell On the Transference of Souls 1. Combining the two volumes creates a single-use grimoire that casts Celestial Paean (Polygon’s quest guide). This is an in-game item and spell, not a real-world book.
The tome’s item description calls it “The second of a pair of grimoires brimming with ancient magick. When reunited with its twin, it grants access to a forgotten spell” (Dragon’s Dogma 2 Wiki item reference).
