Battlefield 4 does not support split-screen multiplayer. What counts as two-player split-screen?
For this question, split-screen means two people play locally on one console, with the display divided between their views. That is different from online co-op, playing on separate consoles in the same room, or joining the same squad over a network. A shared-screen mode is local play too, but it is not split-screen.
Player counts alone do not settle the question. A mode described as “four-player co-op” may be online, and a listing for four-player teams may refer to network play rather than two players sharing one display.

Does Bad Company 2’s four-player co-op work on one screen?
The official announcement establishes Onslaught as a co-op mode for up to four players across four maps. It does not establish that those players use one console or a split-screen display. EA’s separate statement that Onslaught brought console co-op to Battlefield for the first time describes the arrival of co-op, not the display arrangement.

Likewise, the Xbox listing’s four-player squad modes describe teams, not local screen sharing. Treat both as multiplayer features unless the exact platform’s official documentation confirms local play.
What about the other Battlefield games?
EA’s catalog includes Battlefield 6, Battlefield 2042, Battlefield V, Battlefield 1, Hardline, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield 3, but the catalog does not specify local split-screen support. EA’s Battlefield catalog therefore is not enough to verify the mode for those titles.

Older console releases also need to be checked edition by edition. The available official listing for Battlefield 2: Modern Combat gives an Xbox Live player count but does not resolve local split-screen, and the Bad Company 2 sources above do not establish same-screen play. These gaps are not proof that every unverified edition lacks the mode; they mean a confident recommendation cannot be made from those sources.

- Identify the exact release. Note the full game title, console or PC platform, and generation. A franchise name by itself is not specific enough.
- Check the official manual or platform listing for local play. Look for explicit wording such as “local multiplayer” or “split-screen,” and confirm it applies to the mode you want.
- Distinguish local from online features. “Co-op,” “multiplayer,” a squad size, or an online player count does not on its own mean players share one console and display.
- Verify the screen arrangement and number of players. Confirm that the documentation says two players can play locally at the same time, and whether the game uses split-screen or a shared view.
If the official materials do not spell out local same-console support for that precise edition, treat it as unverified rather than relying on a general claim about the Battlefield series.
