EA does not certify any third-party website as a safe place to download Sims 4 mods. CurseForge is an established place to browse Sims 4 projects, but no platform’s presence or moderation rules guarantee that every file is harmless.
Does EA approve any Sims 4 mod website?
No. EA’s guidance is to download from a trusted source or creator, but it does not publish a list of third-party mod sites it guarantees. EA Help states: “Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.” That means a familiar website name should not be treated as an EA safety certification.
EA’s separate safety statement for Maker Packs applies to that official program only. It does not certify community mods or the websites that distribute them.
Where can you start looking for Sims 4 mods?
CurseForge
CurseForge has a dedicated Sims 4 hub and publishes Sims 4 moderation guidelines. Those are useful signs of an established distribution platform with content rules. They are CurseForge’s platform-level measures, not an EA endorsement or a guarantee that every individual download is safe. Check the author, project page, and update information for the specific mod.

Pages linked by the creator
A creator’s established page can help you confirm which project and download they intend players to use. If the creator links to a distribution page, follow that link rather than relying on a search result or a lookalike account. This helps establish the file’s source, but it does not independently prove that the file is harmless.
Other community sites
Do not label an entire site safe based only on popularity, anecdotes, or the absence of a warning. EA does not endorse specific mods, and there is no authoritative site-by-site safety ranking established here. Assess the creator, the individual project, its update history, and the download flow instead.

How to assess a download before installing it
- Start from an identifiable source. Navigate from a creator’s established page or a known platform’s actual project page. Be cautious of copied creator identities and confusing redirects.
- Read the project details. Look for the author, the expected file, installation instructions, supported game version, and creator update notes. A clear project page makes it easier to spot a mismatch.
- Check platform accountability. Published moderation rules and a way to report abuse are useful signals, but they cannot guarantee the safety of an individual file.
- Match the download to the instructions. Install the file the creator identifies and follow their stated steps. EA’s installation guidance explains how to enable custom content and mods; it is not an endorsement of any file’s contents.
Why a safe download can still cause game problems
Malware safety and game compatibility are different questions. A mod can be benign but stop working after a Sims 4 update. EA says updates can cause problems with previously functional mods, and it recommends checking with creators about compatibility. Read the creator’s notes for the current game version before installing or updating a mod.
EA also disables mods after game updates to limit gameplay problems. If you re-enable them, do so with the knowledge that a mod may need an update or may be incompatible. EA’s mod and game update guidance explains the issue and advises players to check with mod creators.

What if a mod seems harmful or breaks the game?
- If a mod causes errors or other game problems, remove it or check the creator’s page for an updated, compatible version.
- If a mod appears inappropriate or harmful, use EA’s mod reporting process.
EA’s mod policy says creators must not imply that EA, Maxis, or The Sims endorses or is affiliated with their mod, and that EA may address mods that violate its policy.

No. Maker Packs belong to a distinct EA program. EA’s Maker Program FAQ says Maker Packs are “verified as safe (no viruses or malware).” That assurance is specific to Maker Packs; it should not be extended to third-party mods, creator pages, or mod repositories generally.
