RAGE Multiplayer, better known as RAGE:MP, turns Grand Theft Auto V into a platform for your own servers: serious roleplay cities, racing leagues, freeroam playgrounds and game modes nobody has invented yet. Players need a PC copy of GTA V and the RAGE Multiplayer client, which installs only on desktop and laptop computers. RAGE:MP itself does not host anyone’s servers, so if you want a world of your own, you either rent one or run it yourself.
Renting is harder than it sounds, because few hosts sell RAGE:MP at all. We checked the sites of about thirty game hosts, and most of the big names have no RAGE:MP product at all. Streamline Servers has a RAGE:MP page, but it shows “Out of Stock”. That leaves three hosts you can order from today, ranked below.
Our verdict: Godlike.Host is the best RAGE:MP host for most communities. It sets a server up in minutes, includes free backups and DDoS protection, and runs alt:V and FiveM servers from the same account. XGamingServer is the pick for dedicated Ryzen CPU cores, and Citadel Servers for one-click roleplay add-ons and the longest list of locations.
What a RAGE:MP server needs
The official RAGE:MP wiki sets out the basics, and they are worth knowing before you compare hosts:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Two ports. The server listens on port 22005, using both UDP and TCP, and the next port, 22006, runs an HTTP server that sends client packages to players as they join.
- Windows or Linux. The server runs on both. On Linux, the wiki suggests Debian 10 or later, or Ubuntu 18.10 or later, on a system with glibc 2.28.
- A scripting setup. Server-side Node.js is switched on by default, and a C# bridge plugin is available for developers who prefer C#.
- A conf.json file that controls the server’s name, player limit, game mode and whether it appears in the public server browser.
- Protection from floods and attacks. Public servers draw unwanted traffic, and the wiki even documents an optional setting that guards the HTTP server against fake requests.
1. Godlike.Host: best overall for RAGE:MP
Godlike.Host sells RAGE:MP servers alongside alt:V and FiveM, so a GTA community can try or run all three platforms from one place. Its page says installation takes up to five minutes, and the server settings file is right there in its Pterodactyl-based panel. You also get SFTP access for uploading packages and resources, a built-in mod installer and updater at no extra cost, and control over launch options and the game version.
The admin tools are geared toward busy public servers. A personal firewall filters players by IP address, a text editor lets you share a config file by link without handing out file access, and you can create several independent or linked servers, then manage them through a Discord bot. Backups are free, up to three a day, DDoS protection is included, and there are 10 locations to choose from. Support runs around the clock by live chat or ticket, with an average reply time Godlike puts at about twenty minutes.
Plans scale in steps: Ultra with 20 slots and 2 GB of RAM, Unstoppable with 40 slots and 4 GB, Rampage with 60 slots and 6 GB, or a custom mix within that range. Upgrades and downgrades are billed pro rata. There is also a free server for trying the panel, limited to one location and needing renewal every three hours.
Heads-up: Godlike’s RAGE:MP plans top out at 60 slots and 6 GB, while RAGE:MP’s own default player limit is 100, so a very large community could outgrow them.
2. XGamingServer: best for dedicated CPU cores
XGamingServer runs RAGE:MP on AMD Ryzen 9 7950X processors with dedicated cores, guaranteed DDR5 memory and NVMe storage, and says it does not overload or oversell its machines. Plans climb from a 2 GB starter with one core to 24 GB with eight cores, and you set the slot count yourself, with unlimited slots on its Pro and Ultimate plans.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Developers get a lot of attention here. The page promises full support for C#, JavaScript and CEF interfaces, and every plan includes automated backups, DDoS filtering tuned to game traffic, and round-the-clock support. Sub-users let you share the panel with your staff, and a game switcher moves the server to another title without a new order.
Heads-up: XGamingServer lists only three RAGE:MP locations, New York, Los Angeles and Frankenstein in Germany, so players in Asia, Oceania or South America will be far from the server.
3. Citadel Servers: best for one-click roleplay add-ons
Citadel Servers leans into roleplay. Its RAGE:MP page offers one-click installs for police mod packs, police vehicle packs and scripts, a freeroam game mode, chat and scoreboard resources and MySQL support, with MySQL, MariaDB and CouchDB databases plus phpMyAdmin included. It also supports several RAGE:MP versions, including development, legacy and current builds, which helps when a framework lags behind the latest release.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteLocation choice is the widest of the three: 29 data centers across North America, Europe, South America, Asia and Australia, and you can switch locations at any time. Each server comes with 6 GB of RAM and 6 GB of cloud backup storage, DDoS protection, FTP access and scheduled tasks for scripts and backups, managed through a customized TCAdmin panel.
Heads-up: pricing is per slot with a 60-slot minimum, several locations add a monthly surcharge, and the page lists Xeon processors, with a dedicated CPU core sold as an extra.

Where your server’s code lives
Whether you rent or self-host, a RAGE:MP server has the same layout once it has run for the first time, according to the official development guide:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- packages holds the server-side scripts the server loads, where you manage players and build your world.
- client_packages holds the client-side scripts and interface files that each player downloads on joining. That download is what port 22006 serves.
- maps holds map files in JSON format that load into the game world.
- plugins holds custom .dll plugins, such as the C# bridge.
- conf.json holds the server settings covered below.
The folders start empty, and the wiki points to a freeroam game mode sample you can study or run. Scripting happens on three sides: server-side code, client-side code and CEF, the browser-based layer for menus and interfaces. Server code can be written in JavaScript, TypeScript or C#. On a hosted server, this is the structure you upload to over SFTP or FTP, so a host with easy file access saves real time.
Running RAGE:MP on your own VPS
With so few hosts, running your own server is a real alternative, especially for developers who want full control of the machine. A Linux VPS is the usual choice, and the official wiki’s steps are short:
- Prepare the system. Use Debian or Ubuntu, and make sure the C++ runtime library is current, as the wiki describes for each distribution.
- Download the server files from RAGE:MP’s own CDN (the linux_x64 archive), extract them and open the ragemp-srv folder.
- Make the server executable and start it with ./ragemp-server.
- Run it as a service. The wiki gives a systemd unit that restarts the server automatically, and warns that running it as root is not safe, so create a separate user for it.
- Open the firewall for 22005 over UDP and TCP and for 22006 over TCP, then connect from the client to test.
On Windows, the wiki recommends installing the latest Visual C++ redistributable, then using the RAGE:MP updater in its server mode to fetch the server_files folder, and starting ragemp-server.exe. Either way, you take on patching, backups and attack protection yourself, which is exactly what a host’s price covers.

The conf.json settings that matter most
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| name | RAGE:MP Unofficial server | The name in the server browser; tags in square brackets, such as [Serious Roleplay], help players find you |
| maxplayers | 100 | The most players the server will accept |
| announce | false | Lists the server on the master list, so players can find it in the browser |
| gamemode | Freeroam | The game mode shown for your server |
| port | 22005 | The main port; the next port up serves client packages over HTTP |
| bind | 127.0.0.1 | The address the server listens on |
| stream-distance | 500.0 | How far away entities stream in for each player |
| enable-nodejs | true | Turns on server-side JavaScript |
| csharp | off | Set to true when you use the C# bridge plugin |
| enable-http-security | false | Adds protection against floods of fake HTTP requests |
| fastdl-host | none | Lets players download client packages from an external URL instead of your server |
Defaults as documented on the official RAGE:MP wiki’s server settings page.
Two of these deserve attention on a public server. Turning on enable-http-security adds a security layer at no cost, and fastdl-host takes the load of large client downloads off your game server, which helps when a busy roleplay server pushes heavy packages to every new player.
How to choose a RAGE:MP host
- Database support. Most roleplay frameworks store players, money and property in a database, so check that MySQL or a similar database is included.
- File access. Client and server packages change often. SFTP or FTP access and a config editor make updates painless.
- Attack protection. Public servers can be targeted by DDoS attacks. All three hosts here include protection, which matters more than a small price difference.
- Locations. Pick a data center close to most of your players, and check whether that location costs extra.
- Room to grow. Look at the largest plan, not just the cheapest, so a growing community does not force a move.
- Version support. RAGE:MP frameworks do not always move to a new build at once. A host that can run older builds, as Citadel Servers offers, buys you time to update.
- Other platforms. If your group might also try FiveM or alt:V, a host that runs all three saves a second account.
FAQ
Do players need to own GTA V to join a RAGE:MP server?
Yes. RAGE:MP’s official site tells players to buy Grand Theft Auto V first and then download RAGE Multiplayer, which installs only on desktop and laptop computers.
Which ports does a RAGE:MP server use?
Port 22005 over UDP and TCP for the game, and the next port, 22006 by default, for the HTTP server that delivers client packages.
How many players can a RAGE:MP server hold?
The default limit in conf.json is 100, set by the maxplayers value. Your plan’s slots and memory decide how many players the server can actually handle.

Can I script a RAGE:MP server in C#?
Yes. Server-side JavaScript through Node.js is on by default, and the csharp setting enables the C# bridge plugin.
Can console players join a RAGE:MP server?
No. RAGE Multiplayer installs only on desktop and laptop computers, so it is for the PC version of GTA V.
Can I move a RAGE:MP server to another host later?
Yes. Copy the packages, client_packages, maps and plugins folders and conf.json to the new server, export and import your database if you use one, then test before you announce the new address.
Why do so few hosts offer RAGE:MP?
The hosts do not say. What we can report is that, of about thirty hosts we checked, only three sell RAGE:MP servers today. Some of them sell other GTA V platforms as well: Godlike, for example, also runs FiveM and alt:V servers.
