The Molten Vault is an optional Act 3 area connected to The Drowned City. Search the zone’s outer edges for its entrance, using Oswald’s clue to look for buildings with monkey statues; the entrance has no confirmed universal coordinate. Inside, use levers to release molten gold and open the route, follow its flow toward Mektul, then take the Hammer of Kamasa back to Oswald in the Ziggurat Encampment.

How to Find the Molten Vault

Treasures of Utzaal is an optional side quest, separate from the main campaign route. You can begin it by speaking with Oswald after draining the lake or by discovering the Molten Vault entrance. The vault connects to The Drowned City, whose layout can vary, so there is no reliable fixed coordinate.

Search around the outskirts of The Drowned City. Oswald’s clue is to look for buildings with monkey statues: “In particular, look for buildings with Monkey statues on ’em. If you spy something like that, give me a shout. I’ll be waiting with… great anticipation.” Treat this as a search hint, not a guarantee that the entrance is beside a specific landmark.

Navigate the Molten Vault

The vault is a winding indoor area. Levers release molten gold and open paths, so look for interactable levers when your route seems blocked. Follow the direction the gold flows; if it stops leading forward, check side rooms and alternate branches for another lever or route.

  1. Explore the vault’s branches and look for levers.
  2. Activate levers to release molten gold and open routes.
  3. Follow the gold’s flow, checking side rooms if the route appears to end.
  4. Continue through the opened passages toward the lift and Mektul.

Defeat Mektul and Finish the Quest

Mektul’s arena includes a moving spillway of molten gold. Contact with the gold damages you and empowers Mektul, so watch its path and keep clear while continuing the fight. Avoid relying on a fixed encounter timer, since the precise timing reported by community-maintained sources is version-sensitive and is not confirmed as a current universal value.

  1. Keep out of the moving molten-gold spillway while fighting Mektul.
  2. After defeating him, pick up the Hammer of Kamasa.
  3. Return to Oswald in the Ziggurat Encampment and hand over the hammer.

Quest references list an Uncut Skill Gem, an Artificer’s Orb, gold, and Reforging Bench access among completion rewards. Reward details can change between patches, so confirm the current rewards in-game.

Troubleshooting

What if I can’t find the Molten Vault entrance?

Search the outer edges of The Drowned City and use Oswald’s monkey-statue clue. Because the area layout varies, do not rely on a fixed coordinate or assume a particular visual landmark is always beside the entrance.

What should I do if the route through the vault seems to stop?

Check side rooms and alternate branches for levers. Activating them releases molten gold and opens routes; follow the gold’s flow to continue.

What if the hammer or turn-in step behaves differently?

Check the current quest objective text. Grinding Gear Games’ 0.3.1 patch notes document clarified quest steps for characters who defeat the Forgemaster after another character in the same league has already completed the quest. This does not establish a universal workaround for every turn-in issue.
