If the button says Play or Play Now, the game is a Luna cloud title and cannot be downloaded.
This distinction is the key: Prime still provides downloadable PC games, but Amazon Luna also provides games that are streamed from Amazon’s servers. They use different libraries, launchers, and ownership rules.
What Prime Gaming games mean in 2026
Amazon’s October 2025 Luna FAQ says that the company retired the separate Prime Gaming branding and unified the benefit under Amazon Luna. Older Amazon support pages and search results may still use the name Prime Gaming, and the old gaming.amazon.com address may still appear in instructions. For current claims, however, start at luna.amazon.com. Amazon’s Luna FAQ explains the product change.

There are now three experiences that readers commonly call Prime Gaming:

Amazon says Prime members receive a rotating selection of downloadable PC games as well as more than 50 cloud-delivered games in regions where Luna cloud gaming is available. The exact catalog, delivery platform, and availability vary by country and by offer month, so an old list of Prime Gaming games is not a reliable installation guide. Before you claim a game
- Use an eligible account. In the United States, an active Amazon Prime membership is the normal requirement. In some markets, the benefit is connected to Prime Video or has different eligibility rules.
- Check your country. Amazon does not offer the same cloud catalog or delivery options everywhere. A Prime membership generally needs to be associated with the country where you reside.
- Have the correct partner account ready. For an Epic or GOG claim, make sure you know which Epic or GOG account should receive the game. A claim attached to the wrong account can be difficult or impossible to move.
- Check your operating system. The official Amazon Games app installer is a Windows executable named
AmazonGamesSetup.exe. Do not assume that an Amazon Games app claim has a native macOS or Linux installer. - Reserve local storage for downloads. A locally claimed game needs disk space in addition to the launcher. A Luna cloud game does not require the game files on your device.
Amazon’s Prime eligibility guidance and country-specific Luna availability page are more dependable than a US-based guide when you are outside the United States.
Step 1: Find and claim the current PC game
- Go to luna.amazon.com and sign in with the Amazon account that has the eligible Prime membership.
- Open the area showing the current Prime selection or claimable PC games. Amazon can change the section name and layout, so look for games marked as claimable rather than titles that only offer cloud play.
- Select the game you want.
- Before clicking the claim button, read the delivery or redemption label. It should identify Amazon Games, Epic Games Store, GOG, or another provider. For Epic offers, check the linked Epic account before completing the claim.
- Claim the game before the offer period ends. Claiming and downloading are separate steps: a game may be claimed now and installed later through its destination launcher.
What to look for on the offer page: A launcher or redemption label indicates a local PC claim. A prominent Play or Play Now control, with no launcher or code, indicates Luna streaming instead.
Download a game delivered through the Amazon Games app
Use this route only when the offer says Amazon Games, Amazon Games app, or equivalent wording.
- Download the official Amazon Games app using Amazon’s download and installation instructions.
- Run the Windows installer,
AmazonGamesSetup.exe. - Sign in with the same Amazon credentials used to claim the game.
- Open the app’s library.
- Find the claimed title under Ready to Install.
- Click Install beside the game and complete the installation prompts.
The install dialog may provide a location or drive choice, depending on the app and title. Choose a drive with enough space if that option is shown; the exact storage controls can change with the launcher version. The game is installed locally by the Amazon Games app, not by Luna itself.

If the Amazon Games library is empty
First confirm that the app is signed into the same Amazon account that claimed the offer and that the offer was actually labeled for Amazon Games. Then fully close the Amazon Games app, relaunch it, open the library again, and retry the installation. Amazon specifically recommends closing and relaunching the app before trying again when a claimed game or installation does not appear. If the title is still missing, check My Collection for the claim record and delivery destination.
Download a Prime game through the Epic Games Store
Epic-delivered games do not install through the Amazon Games app. They are added to the Epic account linked during the claim and are installed using Epic Games Launcher.

- Open Amazon’s linked-account page: amazon.com/gg/links.
- Select Epic Games.
- Authorize the Epic account that should own the game. Check the account name carefully before proceeding; do not accidentally use a family member’s, work, or alternate Epic account.
- Return to the Luna or Prime game offer and claim the title.
- Open Epic Games Launcher and sign in to that same Epic account.
- Open Library, locate the claimed game, and click Install.
Epic’s official Prime offer instructions use Amazon’s linked-account page. If the game is not in the Epic library, Epic says to verify both the account currently signed in and the country on that Epic account. A country mismatch or a claim made to another Epic account is a common explanation for a missing game. Its missing Prime Gaming content guidance covers those checks.
Redeem and download a GOG game
A GOG offer normally gives you a code rather than installing the game through Amazon. After claiming it, redeem the code to the intended GOG account.
- Claim the GOG offer through Luna.
- Copy the displayed GOG code, or retrieve it later from Amazon My Collection.
- Redeem it in a browser at gog.com/redeem, or open GOG GALAXY and choose + Add games & Friends → Redeem GOG code.
- Sign in to the GOG account that should receive the game and complete redemption.
- Open the GOG library. The game should be available to download through GOG GALAXY or, where the title supports it, through GOG’s offline installer options.
If the code fails in GOG GALAXY, try the browser redemption page. If browser redemption fails, try GOG GALAXY instead. GOG also recommends checking the code character by character, refreshing the games list, and restarting GOG GALAXY. Its official code-redemption guide documents these steps.
Other delivery platforms
Amazon has used other providers, including Legacy Games, for some Prime offers. The list is not permanent: Amazon can change the provider from one title or month to the next. Follow the delivery label and instructions on the individual offer rather than assuming every game uses Amazon Games, Epic, or GOG.

If the offer directs you to another publisher or launcher, redeem it there and install it with that service. The Amazon Games app is not a universal downloader for Prime claims.
What if the game only says Play?
You cannot download a Luna cloud-only game. It is streamed from Amazon’s servers, so there is no local game installer or download button to find. Open it through Luna by selecting Play or Play Now.
Cloud play can be useful when your PC has limited storage or cannot run the local version. Amazon supports Luna on compatible PCs, Macs, mobile devices, Chromebooks, Fire TV devices, and selected Samsung and LG smart TVs, subject to regional and device availability. Amazon recommends a sustained internet connection of at least 10 Mbps for the best Luna experience. See the official Luna device and service overview.
On a compatible TV, you can start Luna without downloading the game. GameNight titles may let you scan a QR code on the TV and use a phone as the controller. In the United States and United Kingdom, an Amazon update in July 2026 also began exposing Luna games inside the Prime Video app on Fire TV. That is another cloud-play route, not a method for downloading a PC copy. Amazon’s Prime Video and Luna announcement describes the integration.

Use Amazon’s My Collection when you remember claiming a game but cannot find the launcher, code, or destination account. Amazon says My Collection can show:
- Claim and order history
- Claim codes
- Delivery status
- The platform or destination for each claimed game or offer
- Codes even after the associated campaign has ended
Open the My Collection support page and follow its link to the collection view. Use the destination shown there to decide whether to open Amazon Games, Epic, GOG, or another provider. Searching every launcher at random is less reliable, particularly when the claim was made months ago.

Prime Gaming download problems and fixes

Account mistakes are especially important
Before claiming an Epic, GOG, publisher, or game-account offer, stop and verify the account shown in the authorization window. Amazon and the partner platform may not provide a way to transfer a redeemed game later. If a game is missing, look for it in the account that was actually authorized rather than immediately claiming it again.

The article should not promise a native Amazon launcher for macOS or Linux. - Luna: Cloud games can work on supported Macs, Chromebooks, mobile devices, and other compatible devices because the game runs remotely. Regional availability still applies.
- Epic and GOG: Compatibility depends on the particular game and launcher. Receiving a game through Prime does not automatically make it compatible with every operating system.
- Steam Deck and Linux: Unofficial compatibility tools or workarounds may exist, but they are not the standard Amazon installation path and should be evaluated for each game separately.
Do you keep a Prime Gaming game after Prime ends?
Do not treat every Prime benefit as the same kind of ownership.
- Epic or GOG redemption: The game is redeemed to the linked third-party account and should be installed from that platform, subject to the platform’s terms.
- Amazon Games app claim: The game is attached to the Amazon game library. Earlier Amazon guidance described downloadable Prime games as games members could download, play, and keep forever, but current Luna pages do not restate one universal post-cancellation rule for every delivery method. Check the individual offer and current account terms.
- Luna cloud access: This is subscription-based access to a changing catalog, not ownership of a downloadable PC copy. A title can leave the catalog, and access depends on the applicable Prime and Luna eligibility.
In practical terms, claimable PC games and cloud games should be recorded separately: one is a redemption delivered to a library, while the other is access to a service catalog.
Important Luna changes that make older guides misleading
Older articles may tell you to use Prime Gaming as a separate destination, download every Prime title through one Amazon launcher, or stream your existing third-party libraries through Luna. Those instructions are not universally correct in 2026.
Amazon removed Luna’s third-party stores, individual game purchases, and Bring Your Own Library functionality in 2026. Previously purchased affected titles stopped being playable through Luna after June 10, 2026. Amazon says those purchases can still be accessed directly through the relevant EA App, GOG GALAXY, or Ubisoft Connect account. See Amazon’s Luna changes guidance.

The current workflow is therefore simple but offer-specific: use Luna to find and claim the downloadable PC offer, then use the platform named on that offer to install it. Use Luna’s Play button for cloud games, and do not expect a cloud-only title to produce local game files.
Region availability matters
Amazon distinguishes between countries with full Luna cloud gaming, countries where Prime members can claim games but cannot use Luna cloud gaming, and countries where the benefit is supplied through Prime Video. The catalogs and partner delivery methods can differ as well.
Amazon currently lists Luna cloud gaming in these 14 countries: the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Portugal, and Luxembourg. This list can change, and it does not mean that every Prime game or feature is identical in those countries. Check the current country eligibility page before troubleshooting a missing cloud option.
Prime Gaming download decision tree
- Have you claimed the game? If not, open Luna, select the current PC offer, and claim it before the offer expires.
- Does the offer say Amazon Games? Install the Amazon Games app, sign in, open Library → Ready to Install, and click Install.
- Does it say Epic Games Store? Link the correct Epic account at Amazon’s linked-account page, claim the game, then install it from Epic Games Launcher.
- Does it provide a GOG code? Redeem it at gog.com/redeem or in GOG GALAXY, then download it from your GOG library.
- Does it identify another provider? Follow the offer-specific redemption instructions.
- Does it say Play, Play Now, or Luna? Stream the game through Luna. There is no local download.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Prime Gaming games free?
They are included at no additional charge for eligible Prime members, but Prime itself is a paid membership and availability varies by country. Some markets use Prime Video eligibility or provide only claimable games rather than Luna cloud gaming.
Do I need the Amazon Games app for every Prime game?
No. Install it only for offers labeled Amazon Games or Amazon Games app. Epic offers use Epic Games Launcher, GOG offers use GOG after code redemption, and Luna cloud games require no game download.
Can I download a game that only has a Play button?
No. A Play or Play Now button indicates that the title is streamed through Luna. Start it in Luna on a supported device instead of looking for an installer.
Why did my claimed game not appear?
Check My Collection for the destination platform, then verify the Amazon or partner account used during the claim. For Amazon Games, close and relaunch the app. For Epic, check the account and country. For GOG, check the code and try both browser and GOG GALAXY redemption.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Start at Amazon Luna, claim the PC offer, and let its delivery label determine the installation method. Amazon Games claims install through the Amazon Games app, Epic claims through Epic Games Launcher, and GOG claims after code redemption. A Luna Play title is streamed—not downloaded—and its catalog access is not the same as owning a local PC game.
