The best IO game for most players is Agar.io, but the right choice depends on what you want to play: Slither.io is the easiest five-minute game, Diep.io has the most satisfying progression, TETR.IO is the strongest competitive pick, and Skribbl.io is the best choice for a group of friends.
This is a 2025 retrospective of free, browser-first multiplayer games available during that year. The ranking is editorial rather than a player-count chart: there is no authoritative public database covering concurrent IO-game players, and developer claims are not always independently verifiable. The list weighs gameplay, multiplayer quality, replayability, browser access, friend features, device compatibility, and evidence of maintenance during 2025.
Quick picks: the best IO games in 2025
These games are listed in editorial order, not verified popularity order. Every title below has a browser-first version, although WebGL, WebSockets, hardware acceleration, touch controls, and network restrictions mean that no browser game works equally well on every device.
| Game | Best for | Browser play | Playing with friends | Mobile note | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Agar.io | Classic growth arenas | Yes | Party mode | Separate web and mobile versions | Older formula and occasional uneven lobbies |
| 2. Slither.io | Instant pick-up-and-play sessions | Yes | Limited compared with room-based games | Works best with touch support through its mobile version | Less strategic depth than the best alternatives |
| 3. Diep.io | Progression-heavy arena combat | Yes | Team modes | Mobile upgrades are supported, but controls differ | More complicated and less immediately welcoming |
| 4. TETR.IO | Ranked competitive play | Yes; WebGL required | Rooms and multiplayer modes | Primarily keyboard-oriented desktop play | Not a conventional eat-and-grow IO game |
| 5. Shell Shockers | Casual browser FPS matches | Yes; WebGL and WebSockets required | Matchmaking and maps | No official mobile support | Performance-sensitive for an older laptop |
| 6. Bloxd.io | Sandbox play and minigames | Yes | Private worlds and custom experiences | Device performance varies by mode | More of a game hub than one focused IO loop |
| 7. ZombsRoyale.io | Top-down battle royale | Yes | Duo and squad-style play | Store availability can vary by region and date | Browser and mobile editions may differ |
| 8. Smash Karts | Combat racing | Yes | Private games | Native mobile history is available | Ads and progression can interrupt quick play |
| 9. Venge.io | Class-based browser shooting | Yes | Custom games and clans | Do not assume universal touch support | More demanding than lightweight arena games |
| 10. Skribbl.io | Social parties and classrooms | Yes | Custom rooms for up to 20 players | Official site documents mobile support | Depends on a willing group and good moderation |
| 11. Territorial.io | Real-time strategy | Yes | Team modes | Generally suitable for lightweight play | Its systems are harder to read at first |
| 12. Bonk.io | Physics combat and custom maps | Yes | Custom games for groups | Best with keyboard controls | Lobby quality depends heavily on the community |
| 13. Krunker.io | High-speed browser FPS veterans | Yes | Hosted games, invites, and server tools | Desktop browser is the safer recommendation | 2025 population and regional activity are difficult to verify |
What counts as an IO game?
Originally, the term referred to browser multiplayer games using the .io domain, popularized by Agar.io. In ordinary player-facing usage, however, IO game now means a broader family of free-to-start, fast-loading online games that usually work in a browser and put players into short, replayable matches.

- LEGENDARY PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE — For the past 15 years, esports pros have trusted the QcK as their mousepad of choice, and for good reason: SteelSeries products have won more prize money than any other brand.
That broad definition includes growth arenas such as Agar.io and Slither.io, tank shooters such as Diep.io, browser FPS games such as Shell Shockers, top-down battle royales, territory-conquest strategy games, physics arenas, sandbox hubs, social party games, and competitive puzzle games. It also explains why TETR.IO, Smash Karts, and Skribbl.io appear here even though they are not all identical to the original eat-and-grow formula.
This article does not treat every game with an .io domain as a multiplayer game. A single-player puzzle or score-chasing title may use the domain without matching the reader’s intent here. Likewise, a game merely loading on an unofficial mirror is not proof that its original service is healthy.
How this 2025 ranking was decided
The weighting deliberately avoids pretending that an uncited popularity claim is a measurement. When a developer publishes a user figure, it should be attributed as a self-published claim, not presented as an independently audited player count. A monthly-user number is also not the same thing as concurrent players, and neither tells you whether your local matchmaking region is busy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsMaintenance evidence matters because a game being reachable is not the same as a game being active. Dated first-party updates, functioning ranked systems, private rooms, map tools, current browser documentation, and recent app-store changes are more useful signals than a listicle calling a title the most popular game on the internet.
1. Agar.io — best classic growth arena
What you do: Control a cell, collect food, grow larger, and outmaneuver other cells. Size gives you an advantage, but it also makes you slower and easier to target strategically. Splitting at the right moment can turn a defensive position into a successful attack.
Agar.io remains the clearest expression of the classic IO formula. The rules are simple enough to understand immediately, but positioning, mass management, timing, and awareness of larger threats give experienced players plenty to improve. The official support documentation lists multiple modes and describes the core web controls: mouse movement, W to eject mass, and Space to split. It also documents a web-only Experimental mode and distinguishes the web and mobile versions. See the official Agar.io controls and mode guide.
Party play makes it a practical recommendation for friends, but there is an important catch: the official Party Mode support page says players need to be on the same server and the same game version. Do not assume a player on mobile will automatically enter the same match as someone on the web version.

Best beginner tip: do not split merely because an opponent is nearby. First make sure the split will land within reach and that a larger cell cannot immediately consume you.
Play Agar.io on the official website
2. Slither.io — best instant pick-up-and-play game
What you do: Guide a snake around the arena, collect pellets to grow, and force opponents to collide with your body. When another snake crashes, its remains create an opportunity for rapid growth.
Slither.io is the easiest recommendation for someone who wants a game that can be understood in seconds. Movement is direct, rounds can be short, and a clever cut-off can defeat a much larger opponent. The game has less build variety and long-term progression than Diep.io, but that simplicity is precisely why it works for a quick break on a laptop or phone.
Its official site remains the correct starting point, and its terms of service explicitly prohibit bots, unauthorized clients, scripts, protocol manipulation, and similar attempts to interact with the servers outside the intended game. That matters when evaluating browser extensions or websites promising automatic farming, zoom hacks, skins, or other advantages: they may violate the game’s rules and create security risks.
There is no need to repeat unsupported claims about millions of daily players. The useful recommendation is more modest: Slither.io is a long-running, recognizable browser game with an immediately readable loop. Its main weakness is that players looking for ranked competition, deep progression, or robust private-room tools may outgrow it.
Best beginner tip: stay near the outer edge of a large snake’s path rather than chasing its head. Patience creates more safe opportunities than constant turning.
Play Slither.io on the official website
3. Diep.io — best progression-heavy arena game
What you do: Control a tank, destroy shapes and rival tanks to earn experience, allocate stat points, and evolve into stronger tank classes. Team, objective, and free-for-all modes change what counts as a good build.
Diep.io is the best choice on this list for players who want an IO game with an actual build-and-upgrade layer. You are not simply trying to survive one encounter: you are deciding whether to improve movement, bullet power, reload speed, health, penetration, or other characteristics, then choosing a tank evolution that supports your preferred style.
The official site lists FFA, two-team, four-team, and rotating modes. It also records a February 16, 2025 update that added an Auto Tank, boss control, controller support, and improvements to mobile upgrades. Those dated changes are useful evidence that the game was still receiving attention during the period this retrospective evaluates. The official site also says Diep.io was acquired by 3AM Experiences on September 3, 2024, so it should not casually be described as a current Miniclip-developed game.
The trade-off is a steeper learning curve. New players have to learn which upgrades complement one another, when to farm safely, and how to avoid becoming an easy target while leveling. It is still lightweight compared with a full PC action game, but it is not as instantly transparent as Agar.io.
Best beginner tip: spend early points on a coherent plan rather than distributing them randomly. A tank that is slightly good at everything can lose to one built deliberately for range, speed, defense, or burst damage.
Play Diep.io on the official website
4. TETR.IO — best competitive skill game
What you do: Play fast falling-block matches in public rooms, ranked one-versus-one competition, battle-royale-style formats, and solo practice modes.

TETR.IO is the strongest recommendation for players who want measurable improvement rather than a casual arena loop. Its official site offers public rooms, ranked 1v1 Tetra League, Royale, Quick Play, 40 Lines, Blitz, Zen, replays, leaderboards, and extensive configuration. The combination of speed, precision, replay analysis, and rankings gives it far more competitive structure than the average browser game.
It is an IO-style exception rather than a traditional IO game: there is no map to explore and no opponent to eat. It belongs because it is browser-first, multiplayer, quick to start, and hosted on a .io domain, while still offering the kind of serious competitive ecosystem many casual lists fail to include.
Check the official TETR.IO site before playing on an older device. WebGL is required, and the site documents supported modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera. The official patch notes also show multiple updates during February and March 2025, reinforcing its inclusion in a 2025 list.
Best beginner tip: start with 40 Lines or Quick Play before entering ranked matches. Learn how the board handles movement and stacking, then use replays to identify repeated mistakes.

5. Shell Shockers — best casual browser FPS
What you do: Enter browser FPS matches as an armed egg, choose weapons, learn maps, and fight through conventional team or free-for-all shooting modes.
Shell Shockers succeeds because it makes the familiar browser FPS structure approachable without requiring a large installation. The official FAQ describes matchmaking, weapons, maps, map creation, and continued development, including new maps. That makes it a better casual shooter recommendation than a generic claim that any old browser FPS is still populated.
It is not universally low-spec. The official Shell Shockers FAQ says the game requires WebGL and WebSockets, supports Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Opera, and Brave, and benefits from hardware acceleration. Its approximate guidance includes a 2.0 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM, WebGL-capable graphics, and broadband internet. For a good experience, it recommends roughly 60 FPS and ping of 100 ms or less. These are rough guidelines rather than a guarantee of performance.
There is also no official mobile support yet, according to the FAQ. A phone browser may load a page, but that should not be confused with a supported touch experience.

6. Bloxd.io — best sandbox and minigame hub
What you do: Build, survive, explore, compete, and move between a collection of block-based online modes rather than one single arena.
Bloxd.io has expanded well beyond the minimalist IO format. Its official hub includes sandbox survival, Creative, Peaceful, Bedwars, Skywars, minigames, custom games, ranked modes, and player-created experiences. That breadth makes it the best option here for a group that wants to switch activities without leaving the browser.
The game is especially useful for friends because the official pages document private survival worlds and free-build servers. The Classic Survival page and Classic Creative page are good starting points for players who want building rather than combat. It is Minecraft-inspired, but it should not be described as a browser replacement with identical systems or content. Treat it as its own online sandbox hub.

A simple mode may run comfortably on an older system, while a busy world or more complex experience can be more demanding. The same distinction applies to mobile play: a page loading is not proof that every mode has comfortable touch controls.
Best beginner tip: start in Creative or a private survival world before trying competitive modes. You will learn the interface and building tools without fighting both the controls and other players.

7. ZombsRoyale.io — best top-down battle royale
What you do: Drop into a 2D real-time battle royale, search for equipment, fight through a shrinking battlefield, and try to be the last player or team standing.
ZombsRoyale.io is the cleanest battle-royale recommendation in this group for players who prefer a top-down view and quick matches. The official site describes a 100-player, 2D, real-time battle royale. Browser controls include WASD or arrow keys for movement, the left mouse button to fire, and E to open doors and interact with loot.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Its mobile listing describes Solo, Duo, and rotating limited-time modes, but browser and mobile availability should be treated separately. Store listings can change by region and date, and an app listing does not prove that the web and mobile editions share the same matchmaking pool. Use the official browser site for web play and check the relevant store listing for current mobile availability.
The advertised 100-player format also should not be read as proof that every participant in every match is a live human. Games may use bots or matchmaking fillers, and the available evidence does not establish a universal human-player count.
Best beginner tip: prioritize a safe landing and usable equipment over an early fight. Surviving the first rotations teaches more than being eliminated while searching for a perfect weapon.

8. Smash Karts — best racing-focused IO game
What you do: Race around compact arenas, collect power-ups, attack rival karts, unlock characters, and survive short combat-racing matches.
Rank #3
- COMFORTABLE AND DURABLE: The surface of the gaming mouse pad is made of smooth, soft and comfortable fabric, and the bottom of the mouse pads is made of durable non-slip rubber base with precision stitching to lock the edges, making the mouse pads for desk more beautiful and durable
- PRINTING PATTERN IS CLEAR AND BEAUTIFUL: The keyboard pad adopts advanced printing technology, the beautiful and vivid pattern is clearly printed on the gaming mousepad, even after many times of washing can keep the pattern clear and bright
- LARGE SIZE: This mouse pad large measures 31.5 x 11.8 x 0.12inch (80 x 30 x 0.3cm), the large mouse pad for desk is extra-large size not only protects your desktop effectively, but also leaves plenty of room for you to work and gaming
- ULTRA-SMOOTH SURFACE: This keyboard mat has an extremely smooth surface that allows you to enjoy a silky-smooth experience when sliding your mouse, and the desk mouse pad also enhances precise control and speed when you are working or gaming
- EASY TO CLEAN, MULTIFUNCTIONAL: The mousepad gaming are extremely easy to clean, just wipe clean with a paper towel or wet wipes, computer mat patterns are extremely nice and beautiful, not only for home, office, games or a beautiful desktop decorations
Smash Karts is not a conventional racing game where combat is an optional distraction. Weapons, arena positioning, power-up timing, and survival are central to every match. That makes it a strong pick for players who want the immediate accessibility of an IO game with a more energetic arcade identity.
The official listing says players can create private games, which is useful for groups that want to compete without relying entirely on public matchmaking. Its 2025 update history provides unusually clear maintenance evidence: the App Store history records a performance overhaul on February 28, an Arms Race mode on March 5, and additional seasonal updates later in the year. See the official App Store listing for that history. The browser entry point is smashkarts.io.
The main downside is that ads and progression systems can get in the way of a completely frictionless session. It is best understood as a free-to-start combat racer rather than a pure racing simulator.
Best beginner tip: save a defensive or mobility power-up for the final part of a lap. Using everything immediately often leaves you vulnerable when the pack reaches a tight corner.

9. Venge.io — best class-based browser shooter
What you do: Choose a hero, use weapons and abilities, fight across official and community-made maps, and improve through a more structured FPS system than a basic deathmatch.
Venge.io is the better choice than Shell Shockers for players who want class identity and more systems around each match. The official site documents multiple heroes, weapons, abilities, cards, official maps, community maps, custom games, clans, quests, and a built-in editor. Movement uses WASD, the mouse handles aiming and shooting, number keys select weapons, and F activates abilities.
The official website claims more than 3 million monthly players. That is a self-published developer figure, not an independently verified population measurement, so it should not be used as proof that every region has full lobbies. The game does have stronger first-party maintenance evidence than many browser shooters: its official changelog records substantial 2025 development, including Team Deathmatch and balance changes in September and October.
Venge is more demanding and more sensitive to connection quality than Agar.io or Territorial.io. Its editor and custom-game tools also mean that the experience can vary considerably by map and community activity.

10. Skribbl.io — best social party game
What you do: Take turns drawing a secret word while other players guess it in real time. Points reward both accurate guesses and successful drawings.
Skribbl.io is the best IO-style game for a group that wants conversation and comedy rather than combat. It works especially well for friends, classrooms, and informal parties because players can create custom rooms, use custom word lists, adjust hints, and select different word modes. The official page supports rooms of up to 20 players and provides owner controls including kick, ban, mute, vote-kick, and report tools.
It also demonstrates why “multiplayer” needs a more precise definition. Skribbl.io is real-time human interaction in a room, not a public action lobby, and its quality depends heavily on the group’s behavior. User-created drawings, messages, and usernames can be inappropriate or unpleasant; the official site provides moderation tools but does not make a blanket safety guarantee.
The official site documents mobile support, although drawing precision and screen size can still affect the experience. For a private group, use the room-creation and sharing options on the official site rather than relying on a public lobby or an unofficial clone.
Best beginner tip: draw the most recognizable part of the word first. A simple silhouette or defining feature is usually more useful than a detailed picture that takes too long.
Play Skribbl.io on the official website
11. Territorial.io — best strategy IO game
What you do: Expand across a map, manage troop distribution, decide when to attack or negotiate, and balance rapid growth against the danger of overextending your borders.
Territorial.io proves that the IO format does not have to mean twitch movement. Its appeal comes from choosing when to claim empty land, when to pressure a rival, how to distribute forces, and whether a temporary diplomatic arrangement is worth the risk. Expansion that looks successful in the short term can leave a player unable to defend a long border.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Current community documentation lists Team Game, Battle Royale, 1v1, and Zombie modes, while the official site remains the appropriate starting point. The mode and clan documentation is useful when the basic map loop starts to make sense.
It is a good low-spec recommendation because the core presentation is lighter than a 3D browser shooter or sandbox. The trade-off is readability: new players must understand territory shape, troop flow, timing, and diplomacy before the game feels as immediately clear as Agar.io.
Best beginner tip: do not expand as quickly as possible at all times. Leave enough strength to defend your existing border and watch neighboring players before committing to a long front.
Play Territorial.io on the official website
12. Bonk.io — best physics and custom-map game
What you do: Push, bounce, and outmaneuver other players in physics-based free-for-all or team arenas, often on community-created maps.
Rank #4

Bonk.io is a poor substitute for a shooter but an excellent physics playground. It supports up to eight players, quick play, custom games, a level editor, and community-created maps. The rules of each map matter as much as the player roster: hazards, platforms, momentum, and collision angles can completely change the best strategy.
The official Bonk.io site documents arrow keys for movement and X to become heavier. Becoming heavier improves momentum and collision resistance but reduces maneuverability, creating a useful risk-reward decision rather than a simple power button.
Its replay value comes from the community and the editor, so the quality of public sessions can be less predictable than in a standardized ranked game. It is at its best when several friends agree on custom maps or when a player enjoys experimenting with physics instead of chasing a conventional competitive ladder.
Best beginner tip: do not hold the heavy button continuously. Learn when extra weight helps you hold a platform or win a collision, and when it will make a necessary correction impossible.

13. Krunker.io — best legacy browser FPS, with a population caveat
What you do: Play fast browser FPS matches, select classes and weapons, use movement skill, and explore ranked, custom, hosted, and modified community experiences.
Krunker.io remains one of the most feature-rich browser shooters in this category. Its official site exposes ranked play, server finding, hosting, invites, mods, challenges, customization, and a battle-pass or season system. That breadth gives experienced players more to do than a basic browser deathmatch.
It is also the list’s clearest caution. The game was playable and feature-rich during the period covered, but public evidence does not establish a large or healthy 2025 population in every region. A functioning server browser is not the same as consistently full human lobbies, so this should not be called the most popular IO shooter without current, transparent data.
The official site recommends Chrome at 60 FPS and displays network-lag warnings. If the main matchmaking pool feels quiet, try the server finder, hosted games, or community tools rather than immediately concluding that the entire service is offline. Those tools are also why Krunker still deserves a place for browser-FPS veterans, even with its status qualification.

Best beginner tip: learn the movement and one reliable class before experimenting with mods or advanced customization. Fast movement is useful only when you can still control your aim.

Which IO games are best for playing with friends?
For the least frustrating group session, separate private rooms from ordinary matchmaking. A private room gives you a code, invite, or room link and lets the group reliably meet. Joining the same public queue at the same time is not a guarantee that friends will land together, especially when games divide players by server, region, platform, or version.
- Best private-room choices: Skribbl.io, Bonk.io, Bloxd.io, Smash Karts, and TETR.IO.
- Best team-based choices: Diep.io, Venge.io, ZombsRoyale.io, and Territorial.io.
- Best casual group game: Skribbl.io, because the room tools and custom word options are more important than individual mechanical skill.
- Best competitive group game: TETR.IO, especially for players who enjoy improving and comparing results.
- Best creative group game: Bloxd.io or Bonk.io, where custom worlds and maps provide more variety than a fixed public queue.
With Agar.io, check that everyone is using the same version and server. The official Party Mode documentation specifically identifies those requirements. With mobile games, also check whether the mobile and browser versions share matchmaking at all; Agar.io’s web and mobile versions are separate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which games work best on low-end hardware?
The safest lightweight recommendations are Agar.io, Slither.io, Diep.io, Territorial.io, Skribbl.io, and Bonk.io. Their basic presentation is generally less demanding than a 3D browser shooter or a busy sandbox world, although browser tabs, background applications, and device age still matter.
Use more caution with Shell Shockers, Venge.io, Krunker.io, Bloxd.io, and TETR.IO. They may run well on a modern Chromebook or older PC, but they rely more heavily on WebGL, rendering, browser performance, or fast input. TETR.IO requires WebGL. Shell Shockers requires WebGL and WebSockets and gives approximate guidance of a 2.0 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM, WebGL-capable graphics, and broadband internet; those figures are not a universal guarantee.
Do not confuse no download with no hardware requirement. A browser game still renders graphics, opens network connections, and competes with every other tab and process on the computer.
Which IO games work on phones?
- Agar.io: has distinct web and mobile versions. Do not assume that a web player and a mobile player enter the same match.
- ZombsRoyale.io: has browser and mobile listings, but app availability and platform behavior should be checked for the relevant region and date.
- Skribbl.io: the official site documents mobile support, making it a practical phone option for social play.
- Shell Shockers: the official FAQ says there is no official mobile support yet.
- TETR.IO: is primarily a keyboard-oriented desktop browser game, so it is a poor default recommendation for touch-only play.
- Venge.io and Krunker.io: should not be called universally touch-friendly without current first-party confirmation for the specific device and edition.
A native app, a mobile browser page, and a desktop site viewed on a phone are three different levels of support. Check the official game page or store listing rather than downloading an APK or a supposedly optimized clone.
Are IO games free?
Most recommendations here are free to play or free to start in a browser. That does not mean the experience contains no advertising, optional cosmetics, premium currency, supporter features, battle passes, accounts, or data collection. Monetization and platform features can change, so treat free access as the claim being made—not a promise that every feature is free or that the game is entirely ad-free.

Do not use an unofficial proxy or an “unblocked” mirror to bypass those restrictions; follow the network policy or ask the administrator.
Are IO games safe for children?
No online game should receive a blanket safety guarantee. Public matchmaking can expose children to strangers, usernames, chat, drawings, user-created maps, ads, and external links. User-generated content is a particular consideration in Skribbl.io, Bonk.io, Bloxd.io, Venge.io, and Krunker.io.
Skribbl.io provides owner controls to kick, ban, mute, vote-kick, and report players, but its official page also makes clear that owners are not responsible for user-created drawings, messages, or usernames. For younger players, use a private room with people you know, avoid sharing personal information, review the game’s privacy and moderation settings, and supervise public chat. Use official domains only; a clone site can introduce downloads, misleading advertisements, or account theft that the original game does not require.
Browser troubleshooting
If the game will not load
- Confirm that you are using the official domain linked in this article.
- Reload with unnecessary extensions disabled. Ad blockers, script blockers, privacy tools, and game-enhancing extensions can interfere with connection requests.
- Make sure JavaScript is enabled and that the browser supports WebGL. Hardware acceleration may need to be enabled.
- For games such as Shell Shockers, confirm that WebSockets are available on the network.
- Try a supported, updated browser. TETR.IO documents modern Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera support; Shell Shockers documents Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Opera, and Brave.
- Close streams, downloads, high-bandwidth tabs, and background applications.
- Check whether the school, work, library, or public network blocks gaming domains. Do not bypass that policy with a mirror.
- If permitted, test the official site on another legitimate network. Check the game’s official status channels before deciding that the service is dead.
The Shell Shockers FAQ specifically recommends closing tabs and downloads, checking ping, using a wired connection where possible, updating graphics drivers, and checking WebGL settings.

If the game is laggy
Separate high ping from low FPS. High ping causes delayed actions and rubber-banding; ping spikes make the connection inconsistent. Low FPS causes choppy visuals and input delay even when the network is fine. Browser throttling, Wi-Fi congestion, server-side slowdown, and a failed hardware-acceleration setting can produce similar symptoms.
For Shell Shockers, the official FAQ says a ping of 100 ms or less is generally desirable, while inconsistent spikes are particularly damaging. If the FPS counter is low, lower browser load and check graphics settings. If the FPS is stable but actions arrive late, investigate Wi-Fi, downloads, VPNs, and the selected server instead.
If friends cannot see one another
- Confirm everyone is using the same game version.
- Check that players are on the same server or region where the game requires it.
- Make sure a mobile player is not using a separate platform version.
- Re-create an expired private-room code.
- Confirm that the chosen mode actually supports private rooms or party play.
- Temporarily test without extensions that may block WebSocket or cross-site connection requests.
For Agar.io specifically, the official support page identifies same-server and same-version requirements for Party Mode. Do not assume that starting a queue at the same time will produce a shared match.
Games worth mentioning, but not in the main 13
MooMoo.io
MooMoo.io is a strong alternative for players who prefer resource gathering, base building, windmills, weapons, and village defense. Its official site documents WASD movement, mouse or Space for gathering and attacking, auto-attack on E, and number-key item selection. The site displays version 1.8.2. It is a sensible swap for Krunker if survival and building are more appealing than browser FPS combat.

Build Royale is a useful alternative to ZombsRoyale.io for players who want a top-down battle royale with building. Its official changelog records updates through July 1, 2025, including balance changes and crash fixes, giving it a particularly clear 2025-specific reason to be considered.
Narrow One
Narrow One is a notable late-2025 browser-first archery game. Steam lists its release date as August 26, 2025, along with 5v5 capture-the-flag, six classes, more than 17 maps, cross-platform multiplayer, and weekly modes. It is better treated as a new IO-style game to watch than ranked alongside games with a longer 2025 track record.
Paper.io 2
Paper.io 2 is a good mobile and casual alternative built around capturing territory, quick matches, skins, and daily rewards. Verify the edition before calling it real-time multiplayer: mobile and browser implementations can differ, and the multiplayer experience is not necessarily identical across platforms.
Games and sites to treat cautiously
Surviv.io
Do not put Surviv.io on a normal 2025 best-games list without a prominent status explanation. Search results and community reports describe the original game as unavailable or offline, while later community activity and possible re-releases create confusion. The safest approach is to verify the official service rather than treating a fan page or mirror as proof that the original game is active. The current Surviv.io status page illustrates why this title needs qualification.

Old Flash games
Do not recommend a title that requires the discontinued Flash plug-in unless its current HTML5 version is verified on the official domain. A working search result, archive page, or downloadable wrapper is not the same as an official, supported browser version.
Unofficial mirrors and “unblocked” sites
A mirror may be a clone, an ad trap, an altered build, or a page designed to distribute unwanted software. Use the official domains in this article. If a school or workplace blocks a game, follow the network policy rather than trying to evade it.
Bots and misleading population claims
Some games use bots for practice, matchmaking, or filling empty lobbies. A label such as 100 players does not prove that every participant is human. Likewise, claims such as millions of monthly or daily players need a source, date, geography, platform definition, and measurement method before they can support a ranking. A reachable game with bots and empty regional servers is not necessarily healthier than a smaller game with reliable private rooms.
A note about 2025 versus 2026 availability
This article evaluates whether the games were playable or meaningfully maintained during 2025. The research date is August 10, 2026, but a title being reachable now does not retroactively prove its 2025 population, and a future shutdown would not erase its 2025 relevance. Official browser links and first-party update pages are included so readers can check current access separately. Store availability, matchmaking populations, ownership, and mobile support can change after publication.
Final recommendation
Start with Agar.io if you want the defining classic. Choose Slither.io for the fastest route into a five-minute match, or Diep.io if you want upgrades and tank builds. Competitive players should go straight to TETR.IO.
For shooting, try Shell Shockers for casual FPS matches and Venge.io for heroes, abilities, and custom maps. Choose ZombsRoyale.io for a battle royale, Smash Karts for combat racing, and Bloxd.io for sandbox building. Groups that want to talk and laugh rather than fight should use Skribbl.io, while strategy and physics fans have Territorial.io and Bonk.io. That is the practical answer to which IO game is best: choose by the kind of match you want, not by an unsupported popularity slogan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are IO games really multiplayer?
Many are real-time multiplayer games with public matchmaking, team modes, or private rooms, but the details vary. Some also use bots, practice modes, or asynchronous leaderboards. Check whether a specific mode contains human opponents, and do not treat a 100-player label as proof that every participant is human.
Can I play these IO games without downloading anything?
The listed browser versions can generally be tried without downloading a separate game client. You may still need JavaScript, WebGL, hardware acceleration, or WebSockets, and a school or work network may block game traffic. Browser access does not guarantee that an older device will run the game smoothly.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat is the best IO game to play with friends?
Skribbl.io is the easiest group recommendation because it supports custom rooms for up to 20 players and custom words. Bonk.io, Bloxd.io, Smash Karts, and TETR.IO are also strong private-room choices. Diep.io, Venge.io, ZombsRoyale.io, and Territorial.io are better when your group prefers team-based public matches.
Are IO games safe for children?
Do not assume that any online game is automatically safe. Public rooms may contain strangers, chat, user-created drawings or maps, advertisements, and external links. Use official domains, prefer private rooms, avoid sharing personal information, review moderation tools, and supervise younger players.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Agar.io is the best all-purpose classic, Slither.io is the easiest instant game, Diep.io offers the deepest arena progression, and TETR.IO is the best competitive choice. For friends, use Skribbl.io, Bonk.io, Bloxd.io, or Smash Karts rather than hoping a public queue puts everyone together.
