A Roblox game pass is a one-time Robux purchase that grants a player a creator-defined benefit inside one specific Roblox experience. A pass might unlock a VIP area, permanent double XP, extra inventory, a special tool, or a fast-travel ability. It does not automatically work in other games, and creating one does not automatically implement its advertised perk—the experience’s code must grant and re-check the entitlement.
This guide covers the player buying process, the current Creator Hub workflow, secure scripting, pricing and creator earnings, Managed Pricing, Roblox Plus discounts, promotions, analytics, refunds, scams, and the 2026 end of cross-game pass sales.
What is a Roblox game pass?
Roblox uses several overlapping names for this product: players commonly say game pass, Creator Hub documentation often says pass, and Roblox Support uses Experience Pass. They refer to the same basic idea: a one-time purchase associated with a particular experience or project.
When a player buys the pass, Roblox records ownership of that pass. The creator’s game then checks that ownership and grants the promised privilege. Common examples include:

Pass ownership is tied to the experience for which the pass was created. It is not a universal Roblox entitlement: buying a VIP pass in one experience does not give you VIP status in unrelated experiences. Roblox describes passes as project-level assets unique to the game they map to in its asset documentation.
A pass is intended to be a durable, one-time entitlement, but “permanent” should be read carefully. It does not mean that the creator can never change the game, disable a perk, or replace the implementation. A creator can change the actual benefit, and Roblox’s Terms of Use reserve rights concerning Virtual Content and its availability. A good creator should not remove or materially undermine a purchased benefit without a clear reason, but a pass is not an unconditional promise that a particular feature will exist unchanged forever.
What a game pass is not
Several Roblox products are easy to confuse with passes:
| Product | How payment works | What it is for | How it differs from a pass |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pass | One time | A durable privilege, ability, access right, or item in one experience | Ownership is checked with UserOwnsGamePassAsync. |
| Developer product | Repeatable | Currency, ammunition, spins, potions, consumables, or temporary boosts | Each purchase creates a new transaction that must be processed with ProcessReceipt. |
| Subscription | Recurring, normally monthly | Ongoing benefits while payment continues | The benefit can expire when the subscription ends. |
| Paid access | One time to enter | A closed beta or an experience that requires payment before entry | It controls access to the entire experience rather than unlocking one perk inside it. |
| Private server | Usually recurring | Reserved-server access | It is a server-access model, not a pass entitlement. |
| Robux transfer | Transfer between users | Supported tipping or donation-style transfers | It is not a pass and follows the separate Transfers API rules. |
| Avatar Marketplace item | Usually one purchase | Clothing, accessories, or other avatar assets | It can be used across Roblox where supported; a game pass is limited to its associated experience. |
A “battle pass” is also not automatically the Roblox Pass product. Battle pass is a game-design label for a progression system. A creator might build one with a pass, developer products, subscriptions, or a combination. Roblox’s subscription documentation specifically allows battle-pass-style benefits to be marketed as subscriptions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow players buy a Roblox game pass
The normal purchase route is the experience’s official Roblox page:
- Open the experience’s detail page on Roblox.
- Open the Store tab.
- Select the pass you want.
- Read the creator’s description and inspect the displayed Robux price.
- Confirm the purchase using Roblox’s own purchase flow.
Some experiences also provide a button, shop, or vendor inside the game. That button should open an official Roblox purchase prompt. The in-experience listing and the experience page may not display identical wording or prices: regional pricing, price optimization, and Roblox Plus discounts can affect what an individual player sees.
Before buying, check exactly what the creator promises. A pass might grant a game-only ability rather than an avatar item, might apply only in certain areas, or might require a level, cooldown, or rejoin. The creator controls the listing’s price, description, and quality; Roblox does not automatically verify that a vague marketing description is a good value. Roblox’s Support guidance on missing purchases is available in Where is the item I just bought with Robux?
Buying safely
- Use the official Roblox experience page and Roblox purchase prompts.
- Never give a creator or website your password, authentication code, or account cookie.
- Do not use a “free Robux” or “free game pass” generator.
- Do not assume a pass gives an avatar item usable in every Roblox experience.
- Review the benefit before confirming. A pass purchase is generally final and non-refundable under Roblox’s Terms, except where Roblox policy or applicable law provides otherwise.
How creators create a pass
Passes are free to create. The experience must already be published and accessible on Roblox. The current Creator Hub path is:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Creations.
- Select the experience.
- Choose Monetization → Passes.
- Click Create pass.
- Upload an icon.
- Enter the pass name and description.
- Choose a category.
- Create the pass.
The icon can be a .jpg, .png, or .bmp file no larger than 512 × 512 pixels. Keep important artwork inside the circular crop area so it remains readable in Roblox’s interface. The complete workflow and current labels are documented in Roblox’s pass documentation.
Roblox’s documented prerequisite is a published, accessible experience; it does not list Roblox Premium as a requirement for creating a pass. Account permissions and creator roles can still determine which experiences and settings you can edit.
Write a listing that prevents misunderstandings
A useful pass name and description should tell the buyer:
- Exactly what they receive
- Whether the benefit is permanent, repeatable, cosmetic, or gameplay-affecting
- Any cooldown, level, area, or mode restrictions
- Whether the benefit appears immediately or after rejoining
- Whether the perk changes game balance or is purely cosmetic
- The normal or default price, when regional pricing may cause different users to see different prices
Avoid names such as “OP,” “Best Pass,” or “Secret” unless the description explains the actual benefit. The listing should not promise something the current game code does not grant.
How to put a pass on sale
Creating a pass does not make it purchasable. To sell it from the experience page:
- Go to Creations → select the experience → Monetization → Passes.
- Hover over the pass and open the
…menu. - Select the pass.
- Open Sales.
- Enable Item for Sale.
- Enter the Robux price.
- Save the changes.
The current documented price range is 1 Robux to 1 billion Robux. Once it is on sale, the pass can appear on the experience’s Store tab. Roblox also lists passes in its newer Shop discovery surface; that discovery listing is separate from the custom shop you build inside the experience.

A creator can also sell the pass through an in-experience interface using MarketplaceService. That requires the creator to build the button, show current product information, check ownership, open the purchase prompt, and grant the benefit. Roblox does not implement the perk merely because the pass exists.
How to find the pass ID
Scripts need the pass’s asset ID. In Creator Hub:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Open Monetization → Passes for the correct experience.
- Hover over the pass thumbnail.
- Click the
…menu. - Select Copy Asset ID.
Do not substitute the experience ID, universe ID, place ID, or creator ID. A pass ID identifies the specific pass. Keeping the ID in one server-side configuration module can also prevent a client UI and server entitlement script from accidentally using different products.
How to script a pass correctly
A reliable implementation has four parts:
- Retrieve the current product information and price.
- Check whether the player already owns the pass.
- Prompt a purchase only when the player does not own it.
- Grant the benefit when the player joins and after a successful purchase prompt.
The current MarketplaceService API reference lists GetProductInfoAsync, PromptGamePassPurchase, UserOwnsGamePassAsync, and PromptGamePassPurchaseFinished. Older tutorials often use GetProductInfo(); the current API reference marks that alias as deprecated, so new code should prefer GetProductInfoAsync.
Client-side price display and purchase prompt
Use a LocalScript for a player-facing shop button and live price display. Do not hard-code a number such as 500 into a label: Managed Pricing and Roblox Plus can make the displayed price user-specific.
local MarketplaceService = game:GetService('MarketplaceService')
local Players = game:GetService('Players')
local PASS_ID = 123456789
local player = Players.LocalPlayer
local success, info = pcall(function()
return MarketplaceService:GetProductInfoAsync(
PASS_ID,
Enum.InfoType.GamePass
)
end)
if success and info then
-- Populate the UI with info.Name, info.Description,
-- and the current info.PriceInRobux value.
end
local ownsPass = false
local ok, result = pcall(function()
return MarketplaceService:UserOwnsGamePassAsync(
player.UserId,
PASS_ID
)
end)
if ok then
ownsPass = result
end
if not ownsPass then
MarketplaceService:PromptGamePassPurchase(player, PASS_ID)
end
In a real shop, run the prompt from a button activation rather than immediately when the interface loads, and handle failed API calls gracefully. The visible price should be refreshed rather than treated as a permanent global value.
Server-side ownership and benefit granting
The actual perk should be granted by server-side code. A client can display a button, but client-only flags are not a secure authority for VIP access, currency multipliers, weapons, or other gameplay advantages.
local MarketplaceService = game:GetService('MarketplaceService')
local Players = game:GetService('Players')
local PASS_ID = 123456789
local function grantPassBenefit(player)
-- Grant the server-controlled perk here.
-- Example only:
player:SetAttribute('HasVIP', true)
end
local function checkPass(player)
local success, ownsPass = pcall(function()
return MarketplaceService:UserOwnsGamePassAsync(
player.UserId,
PASS_ID
)
end)
if not success then
warn('Could not check pass ownership for ' .. player.Name)
return
end
if ownsPass then
grantPassBenefit(player)
end
end
Players.PlayerAdded:Connect(checkPass)
The PlayerAdded check is essential. A player may have bought the pass before joining, rejoin after buying it, or enter a different server after the purchase. The benefit function should be idempotent—safe to call more than once—because the same player can be checked on join and again after a purchase.
Unlocking the benefit immediately after purchase
For an immediate unlock in the current server, handle the completed pass prompt on the server:
MarketplaceService.PromptGamePassPurchaseFinished:Connect(
function(player, purchasedPassID, purchaseSuccess)
if purchaseSuccess and purchasedPassID == PASS_ID then
grantPassBenefit(player)
end
end
)
Place this handler in ServerScriptService with the benefit-granting logic. Keep the join-time ownership check as well; the event handles the current purchase flow, while UserOwnsGamePassAsync is the long-term entitlement check.
For production code, make sure the server does not grant a different product’s perk because of an ID mismatch, and make sure the benefit is not granted solely because a client says a purchase happened.
Do not use the developer-product receipt system
Passes and developer products use different purchase models:
- Pass:
PromptGamePassPurchase,UserOwnsGamePassAsync, and the pass purchase-finished event. - Developer product:
PromptProductPurchaseand the server-sideProcessReceiptcallback.
Do not process a pass as if it were a developer product. Developer products are repeatable and require receipt processing; a pass is a one-time ownership entitlement.
How much do creators earn from a pass?
For a creator’s own pass sold through that creator’s experience, Roblox documents a standard 70% creator share. Roblox describes the remaining 30% as the Marketplace Fee. Calling this simply the “Roblox tax” hides important differences between passes, developer products, transfers, affiliate arrangements, and other monetization systems.

- Whisper quiet gaming switches – Nearly silent use for 20 million low friction keypresses
- Premium magnetic wrist rest – Provides full palm support and comfort
- Dedicated multimedia controls – Adjust volume and settings on the fly
At the ordinary standard split, a 100-Robux pass sale normally produces 70 Robux for the creator before any DevEx conversion. That Robux is not immediately available: Roblox documents a 30-day holding period from the sale date before the creator’s share is released from escrow. Older Support wording may only describe the balance as pending, so the current Creator documentation is the more precise reference for the period.
Regional pricing means two players may pay different Robux prices for the same pass. Roblox Plus discounts also change what a subscriber pays, but Roblox says the discount is subsidized so the creator’s earnings per eligible purchase are not reduced in the same way.
Robux is not one universal dollar value
DevEx conversion applies only to eligible Earned Robux, not every Robux balance. Roblox’s current Developer Exchange documentation lists:
- A standard rate of $0.0038 per Earned Robux
- A documented minimum of 30,000 Earned Robux, along with other eligibility requirements
- A higher $0.0054 per Earned Robux rate for certain qualifying earnings from U.S. players who are at least 18 and age-verified
As a simple exchange calculation, 30,000 eligible Earned Robux would equal $114 at the standard rate or $162 at the higher rate. Those figures are not a promise that every pass sale qualifies for either rate, and they do not remove DevEx eligibility, account, tax, or other requirements. A creator should not advertise a fixed real-money value for every Robux earned.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Managed Pricing, regional prices, and Roblox Plus
Roblox pricing is no longer necessarily one global number. Managed Pricing combines regional pricing, price optimization, and creator controls for enrolling or excluding individual products.
Regional pricing
For passes, regional pricing is currently enabled by default for new and existing passes through Managed Pricing. Roblox documents regional prices between 30% and 100% of the creator’s default price. Therefore, a pass with a 100-Robux default price might be shown as low as 30 Robux in some regions, but the documented regional price will not exceed the default price.
Roblox determines a player’s economic location using signals that can include billing history, account history, and VPN usage. Economic location is not necessarily the same as the location written on the account, and players in the same country should not automatically be assumed to receive identical pricing. When Roblox cannot determine an economic location, it may show the default price.
The most important implementation rule is simple: custom shop interfaces must retrieve the live price. Use GetProductInfoAsync(PASS_ID, Enum.InfoType.GamePass) and display the returned PriceInRobux value. Roblox provides a Dynamic Price Check tool to help creators find hard-coded prices that could contradict the actual purchase prompt.
Price optimization
Price optimization tests different prices with subsets of users and measures conversion and revenue. Roblox says a successful test generally requires approximately 60,000 transactions in the previous 30 days. A test takes approximately three weeks, and Roblox may run tests at least every 90 days or sooner when prices may no longer be optimized.
This is an advanced platform feature, not a guaranteed earnings increase. A creator should judge it using net revenue, conversion, retention, and player response rather than assuming that a higher price or more transactions will always result.
Roblox Plus discounts
Roblox says Roblox Plus subscribers can receive discounts on eligible in-game purchases, including passes. The discount is subsidized so the creator’s earnings do not necessarily fall with the player’s discounted payment. Roblox’s documented example, which should be treated as dated platform guidance because these economics can change, is:
| Buyer | Buyer pays | Creator receives |
|---|---|---|
| Non-subscriber | 100 Robux | 70 Robux |
| Plus subscriber with a 10% discount | 90 Robux | 70 Robux |
| Plus subscriber with a 20% discount | 80 Robux | 70 Robux |
This is another reason not to hard-code a price in a custom UI or infer a player’s price from a friend’s screen.

Promoting a pass on the Buy Robux page
Creators can opt a qualifying pass into a Roblox promotion in which the pass is given to users as a bonus with eligible Robux-package purchases. The user receives the promoted pass without a normal direct pass purchase; this should not be described as an ordinary free pass available to everyone.
The current Creator Hub path is:
- Open Monetization → Passes.
- Select the pass.
- Open Promotions.
- Enable Include this item in the bonus pool.
- Save the changes.
For an on-sale pass, Roblox documents a value greater than 49 Robux and less than 801 Robux—effectively 50 to 800 Robux. The pass must have a thumbnail, cannot grant paid random items, and must comply with Roblox Community Standards. Eligibility and availability are controlled by the current Roblox promotion rules.

Pass analytics for creators
Creator Hub’s pass analytics can show:
- Top passes over a selected period
- Sales and net revenue
- Catalog sorting by sales or net revenue
- Passes acquired through Buy Robux-page promotion
- Users who joined the experience after receiving a promoted pass
The broader Monetization Overview can report revenue, conversion rate, paying users, ARPPU, and ARPDAU, split by monetization type. This helps answer more useful questions than sales volume alone: which pass converts visitors, which produces net revenue, and whether a promotion brings players who actually return?
Use the Monetization Overview documentation for the current dashboard definitions, since Creator Hub labels and reporting windows can change.
Passes and cross-game donations after May 2026
Advice telling creators to sell a pass from one experience inside another is obsolete as of August 10, 2026. Roblox discontinued cross-game sales of passes and developer products in late May 2026.
There is a one-day discrepancy in Roblox’s official wording: the May 4 announcement gives May 29, 2026, while the current Creator Hub pass documentation says May 30, 2026. The practical conclusion is the same: creators should not build a new cross-game donation system around another experience’s pass or developer product.
For supported tipping or donation-style use cases, Roblox positions the Robux Transfers API as the official alternative. The current documented model requires Roblox Plus for the sender, supports transfers of 10 to 500 Robux per transaction, gives 90% to the recipient, and gives 10% to the hosting game. A transfer is not a pass, and creators should check the API’s current eligibility and implementation requirements before promising that any donation flow is supported.

Use a pass when a player should buy a durable benefit once and the game can represent that benefit with an ownership check. Good candidates include VIP access, a permanent ability, extra slots, or a permanent cosmetic title.

Troubleshooting Roblox game passes
The pass does not appear on the experience’s Store tab
Check each of these:
- The experience is published and accessible.
- The pass was created for the correct experience.
- Item for Sale is enabled.
- The Sales settings were saved.
- You are viewing the correct experience page, not a different place or copy.
- You are not confusing the experience’s Store tab with an in-experience shop.
Passes are also listed in Roblox’s Shop discovery surface and cannot be unlisted there in the same way that some other monetization products can. That listing behavior does not replace the pass’s normal sale settings or change the standard pass economics.
The player owns the pass but receives no benefit
Likely causes include a missing PlayerAdded check, a wrong pass ID, benefit logic placed only in a LocalScript, purchase of a similarly named pass, or a server error while granting the perk.
- Have the player rejoin the experience.
- Verify that the script uses the intended pass ID.
- Check ownership with
UserOwnsGamePassAsync. - Move authoritative benefit logic to a server script.
- Make the grant function safe to run both at join and after purchase.
- If ownership is confirmed but the perk remains missing, contact the experience creator.
Roblox Support directs players with an experience purchase problem toward the creator because the creator controls the game’s entitlement and benefit code. The creator’s contact options are described in Contacting an Experience’s Creators for Help.
The price shown in the game is wrong
The custom interface may contain a hard-coded price, or the player may be seeing a regional price, price-optimization result, or Roblox Plus discount. A cached product-information response is another possible cause.
Fetch the product information at runtime with GetProductInfoAsync, use info.PriceInRobux, and compare the custom UI with the official prompt. Do not treat a literal number in a TextLabel as authoritative. Creators can also use Dynamic Price Check while testing.
The purchase appears complete but the unlock is delayed
Do not repeatedly repurchase or direct the player to a third-party “fix.” Rejoin the experience so the server runs its ownership check. If Roblox shows the pass as owned but the advertised benefit is still absent, give the creator the username, experience, pass name, and approximate purchase details through an official support route. The creator can repair entitlement code, but creators cannot independently issue Roblox-platform Robux or monetary refunds.

Can the player get a refund?
Roblox’s Terms generally state that Robux spent on Virtual Content, including in-experience items, is final, non-refundable, and non-reversible unless Roblox policy or applicable law provides otherwise. A creator cannot simply reverse a platform purchase or issue a Roblox refund from their own game. A missing perk is therefore usually a support and entitlement problem, not an automatic refund entitlement.
Random rewards and monetization rules
A normal pass that grants a clearly specified VIP area or permanent tool is not, by itself, a paid random-item mechanic. Different rules can apply if buying the pass—or using currency bought with Robux—gives the player a random reward.
For paid random items, creators may need to:
- Disclose every possible outcome
- Disclose the actual numerical odds
- Call
PolicyService:GetPolicyInfoForPlayerAsync() - Respect the player’s
ArePaidRandomItemsRestrictedpolicy result - Provide a guaranteed, free, alternative, or blocked flow where Roblox’s rules require it
See Roblox’s documentation for paid random items and the PolicyService API. Do not hide random outcomes behind a vague pass description.
Fair presentation matters
Roblox’s monetization guidance calls for transparent, user-friendly offers. A responsible pass listing should not use:
Recommended Free Tools
- Fake countdown timers
- False “almost sold out” claims
- Permanent fake discounts
- Pressure tactics aimed at children
- Descriptions that conceal material restrictions
- The word “limited” when the item is not actually limited
Explain the benefit before the purchase prompt, show the live price, and make gameplay-affecting advantages distinguishable from cosmetics. This is both better product communication and especially important on a platform used by many minors.
Quick creator checklist
- Publish and make the experience accessible.
- Create the pass under Monetization → Passes.
- Use a clear name, description, category, and 512 × 512-or-smaller icon.
- Copy the pass’s Asset ID, not the experience or place ID.
- Enable Item for Sale and set a price from 1 Robux to 1 billion Robux.
- Fetch the current price dynamically in custom UI.
- Prompt purchases only for players who do not already own the pass.
- Check ownership on
PlayerAdded. - Grant the perk on the server and after a successful purchase prompt.
- Do not use
ProcessReceiptfor a pass. - Test regional pricing, Roblox Plus display differences, and rejoining after purchase.
- Use analytics to measure net revenue and conversion, not only gross sales.
- Do not rely on obsolete cross-game pass donation mechanics.
- Disclose odds and apply PolicyService rules if any pass-linked reward is random.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Roblox game passes permanent?
A pass is a one-time ownership entitlement intended to provide a durable benefit, unlike a recurring subscription. However, “permanent” does not guarantee that the creator’s implementation can never change or that Roblox content will remain available forever. The creator can change the experience, and Roblox’s Terms of Use apply.
Do game passes work in every Roblox game?
No. A pass is associated with the experience for which it was created. It normally grants benefits only in that experience, not in unrelated Roblox games.
Can a Roblox game pass be bought more than once?
No. A pass is designed as a one-time purchase. If the player already owns it, the experience should detect ownership and avoid showing a normal purchase prompt. Use a developer product for repeatable purchases.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo creators need Roblox Premium to create a pass?
Roblox’s documented prerequisite is a published and accessible experience; the pass-creation requirements do not list Roblox Premium. Creator permissions may still affect which experience and monetization settings you can manage.
Why does my friend see a different pass price?
Managed Pricing can apply regional pricing, and Roblox Plus can provide eligible subscribers with a subsidized discount. Roblox determines economic location using multiple signals, so the displayed price is not necessarily identical for every player.
Can I use a game pass for donations?
Do not use another experience’s pass or developer product as a new cross-game donation method. Roblox discontinued cross-game sales in late May 2026. For supported transfer use cases, review the Robux Transfers API, which has separate requirements and revenue sharing.
Why did my pass purchase not unlock anything?
The experience may not check ownership when the player joins, may use the wrong pass ID, or may grant the perk only in insecure client code. Rejoin first. If the pass is owned but the benefit is still missing, contact the experience creator, who controls the game’s entitlement code.

A pass is bought once and represents ongoing ownership of a benefit. A developer product is repeatable and is used for consumables, currency, temporary boosts, and similar transactions. Passes use UserOwnsGamePassAsync; developer products require server-side ProcessReceipt handling.
What is a Roblox battle pass?
A battle pass is a game-design concept, usually a progression track with rewards. It is not automatically Roblox’s Pass product. A creator can implement one with a pass, developer products, subscriptions, or several systems together.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Choose a Roblox pass for a one-time, experience-specific benefit. Players should buy it through the experience’s official Store or Roblox purchase prompt; creators should create it under Monetization → Passes, use live pricing, check ownership on the server when players join, and grant the perk after successful purchase. Treat regional pricing, Roblox Plus, escrow, DevEx eligibility, and the May 2026 end of cross-game sales as current platform details—not assumptions from older tutorials.
