Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, and Quest 3 can run Roblox directly from the Quest Store without a gaming PC. Quest users can also play the PC version through Meta Link, while HTC Vive, Valve Index, and other SteamVR headsets use the SteamVR route.
Choose your route:
- Quest 2, Quest Pro, or Quest 3 without a PC: install Roblox directly on the headset.
- Quest connected to a Windows PC: use Meta Link and the Meta/Oculus OpenXR runtime, or use SteamVR.
- HTC Vive or Valve Index: install SteamVR and use the SteamVR OpenXR runtime.
- Pico or Reverb: SteamVR may work, but Roblox describes these devices as unofficially supported.
- Quest 1: the native Quest Roblox app is unsupported.
Roblox itself can run in VR, but not every Roblox experience is designed for VR. Camera behavior, movement, menus, controls, and interaction quality vary by experience. This guide reflects Roblox’s published support information as of August 10, 2026.
Choose the right Roblox VR setup

For most Quest owners, start with the standalone app. PC VR is optional: it is useful when you specifically want PC rendering, already own a VR-capable computer, or need a PCVR-only setup.
Which headsets does Roblox support?
Roblox’s current Meta Quest FAQ explicitly names these standalone headsets:

The same FAQ explicitly says that Meta Quest 1 is not supported. Do not treat the Quest 1 as compatible with the native Quest Roblox app simply because older guides or videos show Roblox running on it.

What about Quest 3S?
Roblox’s current FAQ does not explicitly name the Quest 3S, even though current third-party Quest catalog data lists Roblox for Quest 3S and users have reported availability. That is not the same as an explicit official compatibility guarantee. If you own a Quest 3S, search for Roblox in the live Quest Store after updating the headset. If the app is listed for your device, follow the standalone instructions below; if it is absent, check Roblox and Meta support rather than relying on an unverified sideloaded package.
For PC VR, Roblox’s official VR setup documentation covers Oculus Rift, Meta Quest 2 with Link, Meta Quest Pro, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and other SteamVR-compatible hardware. It describes Pico and Reverb as unofficially supported through SteamVR. Unofficial compatibility can be less predictable and should not be presented as first-party support.
Apple Vision Pro is not listed in Roblox’s official VR documentation. Roblox’s normal Mac client support is also not evidence that Roblox VR works on a Mac. Roblox’s documented PC VR path targets Windows, and Linux is not supported by Roblox generally.
Requirements before you begin
Standalone Meta Quest
- Quest software version 57 or newer.
- The Roblox app installed from the Quest Store.
- An existing Roblox account.
- A phone or computer already logged in to that Roblox account for Quick Login.
Roblox’s newer Quest-specific FAQ says v57 or newer. An older Roblox VR setup article still mentions v55, so use v57+ as the current Quest-specific requirement.
Roblox currently does not support creating an account or entering a Roblox password directly on the Quest headset. You need to approve the headset login from a phone or computer.
PC VR
- A 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC.
- DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support.
- Roblox installed on Windows.
- Either the current Meta Quest PC connection software or SteamVR, depending on your route.
- A VR-capable GPU and a connection method supported by your headset.
Roblox’s general computer requirements mention at least 1 GB of RAM and 300 MB of storage, but those are not meaningful performance targets for demanding VR experiences. Roblox’s VR setup documentation says Oculus drivers require at least an NVIDIA GTX 1060 or equivalent. Treat that as a driver/runtime requirement, not a promise that every experience will run smoothly at a comfortable frame rate.
Check Roblox’s computer, operating-system, and hardware requirements and install current graphics drivers before troubleshooting VR.

How to play Roblox VR on a standalone Quest
This is the simplest route for Quest 2, Quest Pro, and Quest 3 owners who do not specifically need PC VR.
- Turn on the Quest headset.
- Open the headset’s system settings and update the Quest software. Make sure it is on version 57 or newer.
- Open the Quest Store.
- Search for Roblox.
- Install the Roblox app.
- Start Roblox from the headset.
- Choose the option to log in using Quick Login.
- On a phone or computer, open Roblox while logged in to the account you want to use.
- Open Roblox account settings and choose Quick Login.
- Enter the one-time code displayed by the headset, or use the available QR workflow.
- Review the account-access prompt and select Grant Full Account Access.
- Return to the headset and choose an experience that supports VR.
These steps follow Roblox’s Quest installation and login instructions.
Important Quick Login security details
- The new Quest device displays a one-time code.
- The code is valid for five minutes.
- Only enter a code that you intentionally requested on your own headset.
- Never enter another person’s code.
- The phone or computer already authenticated to the Roblox account must approve the login.
- If QR scanning fails, use the six-character code instead.
- For the QR workflow, keep the phone and headset near each other.

How you know standalone setup worked
A successful standalone setup opens Roblox inside the headset, shows the Quest VR interface, and lets you join a VR-enabled experience using the headset controllers. If you instead see Roblox only as a flat desktop-style window, check that you did not launch the Windows PC version through an incomplete PCVR connection. The native Quest app and the PCVR client are separate workflows.

How to set up Roblox VR with Meta Link on a Quest
Use this route when Roblox will be rendered by a Windows PC. Roblox’s support page still calls the desktop software the Oculus App; current Meta branding may call the connection software Meta Horizon Link or Meta Quest Link.
- Install Roblox on the Windows PC.
- Install and open the current Meta Quest PC connection software.
- Connect the Quest headset using a supported Link method. For a Quest 2 using a Link cable, accept or enable Link inside the headset when prompted.
- Open the headset or device page in the Meta/Oculus PC software.
- Confirm that the headset is detected, ready, and free of connection errors. Roblox’s documentation describes a green ready status.
- Open the PC software’s settings. In the Oculus/Meta app, the documented path is Settings > General.
- Select the Meta/Oculus OpenXR runtime. The exact wording and location can change with the current desktop software version.
- Start a Roblox experience from the Roblox website or Windows desktop client.
- Put on the headset and check whether Roblox appears in VR.
- If Roblox remains flat, turn on Roblox VR Mode and restart the Roblox engine.
Use Roblox’s official PC VR setup guide for the documented runtime and device checks. A current third-party guide also uses the Meta Horizon Link name, but Meta’s labels can change between releases.
Link cable versus wireless Quest PC VR
The clearest documented path is a wired Link connection. Air Link, Steam Link, Virtual Desktop, and ALVR may work in particular configurations, but each adds another networking or runtime layer. Treat them as alternatives for users who already have a working setup—not as the simplest first-line Roblox configuration.
How to set up Roblox VR with SteamVR
Use SteamVR for HTC Vive, Valve Index, and other compatible PCVR hardware. Pico and Reverb users can also try this route, but Roblox labels those devices unofficially supported.
- Install Steam on the Windows PC.
- Install SteamVR from Steam.
- Turn on the headset and controllers.
- Start SteamVR before launching Roblox.
- Open SteamVR settings and set SteamVR as the active OpenXR runtime.
- Check that the headset and controllers are detected. SteamVR status icons and hardware indicators should show ready or green.
- Launch a Roblox experience from the Windows Roblox client or Roblox website.
- Put on the headset and check for the Roblox VR view.
- If Roblox opens flat, verify the OpenXR runtime and Roblox VR Mode, then restart Roblox.
The exact OpenXR menu label can vary by SteamVR version and headset software. The important rule is that SteamVR must be the intended active runtime for this route. Roblox’s official VR setup article documents the SteamVR path.
Choose one runtime at a time
For troubleshooting, treat these as two separate configurations:
- Meta Link route: use the Meta/Oculus OpenXR runtime.
- SteamVR route: use the SteamVR OpenXR runtime.
Switching between Meta Link, SteamVR, Steam Link, Virtual Desktop, and third-party OpenXR compatibility layers can cause Roblox to launch in flat-screen mode. The exact cause varies, but testing one clean runtime path at a time makes the problem easier to isolate.
Turn Roblox VR Mode on or off
If the headset and runtime are ready but Roblox does not enter VR, check the Roblox setting:

- Join the Roblox experience.
- Press Esc, or select the hamburger menu in the upper-left corner.
- Open Settings.
- Set VR to On.
- Restart the Roblox experience or engine when prompted.
To disable VR, open the same menu and set VR to Off, then restart. Roblox says the engine must restart before the setting takes effect. Disabling VR in Roblox settings can prevent the client from starting in VR even when the headset and OpenXR runtime are configured correctly.
Turning on this toggle does not convert every experience into a complete VR game. The experience must support VR, and its creator may implement a different camera, movement system, menu layout, or controller scheme.
Roblox VR controls
Roblox provides control schemes for Oculus Touch, HTC Vive, Valve Index, Xbox, and Meta Quest. The official Roblox VR control-scheme page contains the current headset-specific diagrams.
Use that page as the starting reference, but expect differences between experiences. A creator can add or change movement, grabbing, teleportation, menu, camera, and interaction behavior. If the general controls seem correct but one experience has no usable VR interaction, test a second experience before reinstalling Roblox.
Comfort settings that can reduce VR discomfort
Open the Roblox VR menu and look for the comfort options documented in Roblox’s VR menus and settings guide:
- Comfort: the more conservative preset for reducing motion discomfort.
- Default: the standard Roblox VR behavior.
- Expert: fewer comfort restrictions for experienced users.
- Custom: individual comfort controls.
Custom options include:
- VR Vignette Enabled: narrows peripheral vision while moving, which can reduce discomfort.
- VR Stepped Rotation Enabled: replaces smooth turning with stepped rotation in first- and third-person modes.
- 3rd Person Fixed Camera: uses a fixed third-person camera instead of closely following the player.
Roblox’s creator VR guidance says Quest Auto Quality Mode aims to maintain a minimum of 72 frames per second by dynamically adjusting rendering detail. Frame-rate drops can contribute to nausea and disorientation. Start with Comfort or Custom settings, lower graphics quality when necessary, and stop playing if you feel nausea, dizziness, eye strain, or disorientation.
Age, account, and safety limits
Quest access is not the same as Voice Chat eligibility
Roblox says the Meta Quest version is available to users aged 10 and older. That is separate from Roblox Voice Chat, which requires the user to be at least 13, complete Roblox’s current age check, and live in a supported region. Voice Chat is not enabled by default.
Phone verification is no longer a valid method for obtaining Voice Chat access under Roblox’s current Voice Chat requirements. A child may therefore be old enough to use Roblox on Quest but still ineligible for Voice Chat.
On Quest, Roblox provides mute, block, report-abuse, and Safety Bubble tools. Parents should also check both the Meta account’s age and parental restrictions and the Roblox account’s safety and privacy settings. Quest’s inability to create an account or accept a password directly is an account-flow limitation, not an indication that the headset is malfunctioning.

Roblox VR troubleshooting
Roblox is missing from the Quest Store
- Confirm the headset model.
- Make sure it is not a Quest 1.
- Update Quest software to at least v57.
- Check the Meta account’s age and parental-control status.
- Search the exact app name, Roblox.
- If the current Quest Store still does not list it, check Roblox or Meta support rather than sideloading an unverified package as a first-line fix.
Quest availability is age-restricted, and Roblox explicitly excludes Quest 1 in its current FAQ.
Quick Login fails or the code does not work
- Generate a new code; the previous code may have expired after five minutes.
- Confirm that the phone or computer is already logged in to the intended Roblox account.
- Enter only the code shown by your own headset.
- Open the account’s Settings > Quick Login path.
- Approve the request with Grant Full Account Access.
- If QR scanning fails, enter the six-character code manually.
- Keep the phone and headset close together when using QR login.
Do not accept or enter a code that you did not deliberately request. Roblox’s Quick Login help page explains the approval and expiry behavior.
Roblox launches on the monitor instead of inside the headset
Follow this order:
- Confirm that the headset is actually in PCVR mode, not just connected for charging or file access.
- Check that Meta Link or SteamVR detects the headset.
- Confirm the intended OpenXR runtime: Meta/Oculus for Link, or SteamVR for the SteamVR route.
- Turn Roblox VR Mode on.
- Restart Roblox after changing VR Mode.
- Start the VR runtime first, then launch an experience from the Windows Roblox client or Roblox website.
- Temporarily disable or remove third-party OpenXR layers and test the simplest supported connection.
- If you are using the Microsoft Store Roblox build, test the Roblox.com desktop installation as a comparison. This is a community-reported workaround, not an official Roblox fix.
Roblox community reports from 2026 describe flat-screen launches involving SteamVR, Virtual Desktop, OpenXR runtime selection, compatibility layers, and differences between Roblox client distributions. Those reports identify useful troubleshooting patterns, but they do not establish one universal fix. Do not make undocumented launch flags such as -openvr or -openxr your main solution; advice about them is inconsistent and version-sensitive.

- Restart the headset, PC, and VR software.
- Check the cable, USB port, and connection prompt for a wired Quest Link setup.
- Confirm that Meta Link or SteamVR recognizes the headset before starting Roblox.
- Install current headset and graphics drivers.
- Use one connection method at a time instead of leaving Link, SteamVR, Virtual Desktop, or another compatibility layer active simultaneously.
Roblox’s official VR instructions expect the headset to be detected and ready before Roblox is launched.
Controllers do not work
- Turn on the controllers before launching Roblox.
- In SteamVR, check that the controller status icons are ready or green.
- In Meta Link, check the headset and controller status in the device page.
- Confirm that the active runtime recognizes the correct controller profile.
- Compare the buttons with Roblox’s official control-scheme reference.
- Test another VR-enabled experience because an individual experience can implement its own interaction model or contain a controller bug.
The headset is detected, but Roblox crashes or performs poorly
- Update the GPU driver and headset software.
- Confirm DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support.
- Lower Roblox graphics quality.
- On Quest, try Auto Quality Mode.
- Test a simpler, known VR-enabled experience.
- Use Comfort or Custom settings if movement or frame-rate changes cause discomfort.
- Determine whether the problem affects every experience or only one.
- Stop immediately if you experience nausea, dizziness, eye strain, or disorientation.
Roblox’s graphics troubleshooting guidance identifies old or incompatible graphics hardware, missing drivers, and graphics settings as common causes of computer graphics problems. A PC that runs ordinary Roblox smoothly is not necessarily powerful enough for every PCVR experience.

An experience loads, but has no VR interaction
Possible explanations include:
- The experience was not published or maintained for VR.
- It uses an unusual camera or control model.
- It has a bug affecting a particular headset or runtime.
- You launched the flat-screen Windows client rather than the native Quest app or a functioning PCVR client.
Join a second experience that is known to support VR. If the second experience works, the original experience—not your entire Roblox VR installation—is the more likely problem.

Voice Chat is unavailable
Check the separate Voice Chat requirements rather than reinstalling Roblox. The user must be at least 13, complete the required age check, and be in a supported region. Voice Chat is not automatically enabled merely because Roblox runs on Quest, and phone verification is not the current access method.
Frequently overlooked distinctions
- Standalone Quest is not PCVR. The Quest app runs directly on the headset; Meta Link and SteamVR launch the Windows PC version through a VR runtime.
- VR Mode is not a universal conversion switch. The Roblox experience must support VR and may provide only partial or unusual VR interaction.
- Quest age access is not Voice Chat access. Quest Roblox is listed for users 10 and older, while Voice Chat requires age 13+, an age check, and regional availability.
- A listed SteamVR device is not always officially supported. HTC Vive and Valve Index are documented by Roblox; Pico and Reverb are described as unofficial.
- A PC that runs Roblox is not automatically a good VR PC. The published 1 GB RAM and 300 MB storage figures are general client requirements, not comfortable VR performance targets.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a gaming PC to play Roblox in VR?
No. Quest 2, Quest Pro, and Quest 3 can run the Roblox app directly from the Quest Store. A Windows PC is needed only for the Meta Link or SteamVR PCVR routes.
Does Roblox officially support the Quest 3S?

Does Roblox work on Quest 1?
Roblox explicitly says Quest 1 is not supported for the native Quest app. Do not assume that an old video or an unofficial PCVR workaround represents supported Quest 1 compatibility.

Do not rely on normal Roblox client support as proof of VR compatibility. Roblox’s documented PCVR instructions target 64-bit Windows, and Linux is not supported by Roblox generally. Apple Vision Pro is not listed in Roblox’s official VR documentation.
Can every Roblox experience be played in VR?
No. Roblox says experiences published for VR are available in VR, but individual experiences can have different camera systems, controls, menus, and levels of VR support. Test another VR-enabled experience if one does not behave correctly.
Why does Roblox open on my monitor instead of in VR?
Confirm that the headset is in PCVR mode, the correct runtime is active, and Roblox VR Mode is On. Use the Meta/Oculus OpenXR runtime for Meta Link or SteamVR’s OpenXR runtime for SteamVR, then restart Roblox. Third-party OpenXR layers and wireless tools can also interfere.

Voice Chat is a separate feature. It requires the user to be at least 13, complete Roblox’s current age check, and be in a supported region. It is not enabled by default, and Quest access for users 10 and older does not automatically provide Voice Chat eligibility.
Is SteamVR officially supported by Roblox?
Roblox documents SteamVR support for devices such as HTC Vive and Valve Index. It describes Pico and Reverb as unofficially supported through SteamVR, so their compatibility and troubleshooting experience are less predictable.
Can Virtual Desktop, Steam Link, or ALVR be used for Roblox VR?

The easiest Roblox VR setup for a supported Quest is the standalone Quest Store app. Use Quick Login, choose a VR-enabled experience, and start with Roblox’s Comfort settings. Use Meta Link when you want Quest PCVR through a Windows computer, or SteamVR for Vive, Index, and other compatible PC headsets. If Roblox opens flat-screen, check the active OpenXR runtime, VR Mode, headset detection, and whether the specific experience actually supports VR before reinstalling anything.
