Roblox Assistant is Roblox’s AI development helper, built primarily into Roblox Studio. It can answer Roblox-development questions, inspect the open place, create or edit scripts and instances, search and insert Creator Store assets, generate materials and 3D content, and assist with planning and playtesting. It is more than a chatbot that returns Luau: it can make direct changes to a place, so reviewing, testing, saving, and undoing its work are essential.

This guide reflects Roblox documentation and announcements available as of August 10, 2026. Names, availability, quotas, and beta features can change as Studio is updated.

Quick answer: open a place in the latest Roblox Studio, click Assistant on the right side of the mezzanine bar, describe one specific task, review the proposed code or place changes, apply them, and then playtest. For complicated work, use Planning Mode so you can edit the plan before clicking Build. For an external coding agent such as Cursor, Claude, VS Code, Codex, or Gemini CLI, enable the built-in Studio MCP server instead.

Assistant can accelerate prototyping and repetitive development, but it does not guarantee a complete, secure, balanced, or publish-ready game from one prompt. Roblox says generated code may be imperfect, and creators remain responsible for reviewing, testing, moderating, and refining everything they publish. See the official Assistant guide, the prompt-engineering guide, and Roblox’s beginner Assistant tutorial.

What is Roblox Assistant?

Roblox Assistant combines a large language model with commands that can work against the Roblox Studio data model. Depending on the request and the current feature rollout, it can:

  • Answer questions about Roblox development and explain existing code.
  • Create new Luau scripts and modify scripts that you or Assistant already created.
  • Create, edit, reorganize, duplicate, or remove instances and their properties.
  • Work across multiple objects and create related objects together, such as a RemoteEvent, a server Script, and a LocalScript.
  • Search for and insert assets from the Creator Store, personal inventory, or group inventory.
  • Generate materials, textured meshes, and procedural models.
  • Use a selected Part as a bounding box for generated mesh content.
  • Capture the visible Studio viewport and assist with exploration or playtesting workflows.
  • Prepare a reviewable plan for multi-step work and execute it only after you approve it with Build.

That range is why Assistant should be treated as a development collaborator with the ability to change your place, not simply as a code-generation window. Its understanding is still dependent on context: selection, instance names, hierarchy, prompt quality, and task complexity all affect the result. Roblox’s broader AI workflow documentation and core curriculum describe Assistant as an accelerator for creation, not a substitute for design decisions, playtesting, balancing, or technical review.

Where is Assistant available?

Assistant in Roblox Studio

To use the place-editing features described in the main Assistant documentation:

  1. Install Roblox Studio on a Windows or Mac computer.
  2. Sign in with a Roblox account.
  3. Open or create a place.
  4. Click Assistant on the right side of Studio’s mezzanine bar.

Use the latest Studio version. Roblox’s Studio setup page says outdated versions should be updated to receive current APIs and features.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assistant on the Creator Hub website

Roblox’s beginner tutorial also says Assistant is available in the top-right corner of the Creator Hub documentation webpage. The web surface is useful for asking development questions while reading documentation, but do not assume it has the same ability to inspect or modify an open Studio place. The direct data-model editing workflow in this guide refers to Assistant inside Studio unless a feature is explicitly documented otherwise.

Current Studio requirements

Category Minimum listed by Roblox Recommended
Windows Windows 10 Windows 11
macOS macOS 10.14 macOS 14 or newer
Memory 3 GB RAM 8 GB RAM
Resolution Not specified 1600×900 or higher

Roblox officially provides Studio for Windows and Mac. Its general support documentation does not list Linux as a supported operating system, so an officially supported Linux Assistant workflow should not be assumed. See Roblox’s computer hardware and operating-system requirements.

How to open and use Assistant

  1. Open a place. Start with a new test place or make a saved copy of an important project.
  2. Set the context. Select the Part, Model, Folder, or other instance you want Assistant to work on. If selection is not enough, provide the complete Explorer path.
  3. Open Assistant. Click Assistant on the right side of the mezzanine bar.
  4. Write a bounded request. State the action, target, location, behavior, constraints, and success condition.
  5. Review the result. Read the response, inspect proposed code, and check which objects or scripts it intends to create or modify.
  6. Apply or accept the change. Do not treat the fact that Assistant produced an answer as approval to publish it.
  7. Playtest. Click Play, exercise the feature, click Stop, and inspect the Output window and hierarchy.
  8. Iterate narrowly. Ask for a focused correction based on the observed problem rather than immediately requesting a complete rewrite.

The Assistant interface also provides a redo control for generating another response, thumbs-up and thumbs-down feedback controls, multiple chat threads, and the ability to branch from an earlier response. Chat history is saved in the cloud and persists across Studio sessions, restarts, and devices.

Important scope detail: chat history is scoped to a place, not an entire experience. Plans have a different scope: current documentation says they are associated with the experience and creator profile. Deleted chats cannot be recovered. If Studio is open on multiple devices, Roblox recommends using one chat at a time because history synchronizes through the cloud.

What Assistant can do

Answer questions and explain code

You can ask for an explanation of a selected script, a section of Luau, or a Roblox concept. Assistant can explain code written by itself or code written manually by the creator. For an explanation request involving pasted code, separate the question from the code with ###. For example:

Explain why this script does not detect the player correctly, then suggest the smallest safe fix. Do not rewrite unrelated code.
###
-- paste the script here

An explanation is guidance, not a substitute for checking the relevant Roblox Creator documentation and Engine API reference.

Create and edit scripts

Assistant can generate new scripts, modify existing scripts, and work across several objects. A request made while an object is selected will generally place a new script under that object. With no selection, Assistant chooses a location based on the prompt, which is one reason vague requests can produce surprising hierarchy changes.

Assistant can also create related client and server objects together. For example, a sufficiently specific request can ask for a RemoteEvent, a server Script, and a LocalScript that communicate through it. That convenience does not make the resulting networking secure. Review authority boundaries, validate all client-supplied values on the server, and test with multiple players before using such code in a real game.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Roblox explicitly cautions that generated code may not work flawlessly and may differ from the creator’s intent. Read the entire script, verify its type and location, inspect Output, and test both client and server behavior where applicable.

Modify instances and properties

Assistant can perform repetitive Studio work such as renaming objects, changing properties across a group, duplicating selected objects, placing objects in a pattern, and creating a basic hierarchy. Selection is especially useful when the intended target is obvious visually but has a long or ambiguous name.

Search for and insert Creator Store assets

Assistant can search and insert free or paid Creator Store assets, as well as assets from your personal inventory or a group inventory. Search filters can include asset types such as:

  • Model
  • Audio
  • Mesh
  • MeshPart
  • Image
  • Decal
  • Video
  • Package

The workflow presents relevant results for you to select before placing an asset in the workspace. To insert a known asset directly, use:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
/insert_asset <numeric_asset_id>

Finding an asset does not prove that it is appropriate, optimized, free of unwanted descendants, or safe for your project. Inspect the inserted hierarchy, scripts, permissions, performance impact, and licensing or rights position before publishing.

Generate materials, meshes, and models

Assistant can help generate visual content, including materials, textured 3D meshes, and procedural models. These tools have different behavior and limits; they should not be treated as interchangeable.

Capture the viewport and assist with testing

Current Assistant and Studio AI workflows include viewport capture and playtesting-oriented capabilities. The MCP toolset is more explicit: an external client can capture screenshots, start and stop play, read console output, and simulate keyboard, mouse, and character input. These features support an inspect–test–fix loop, but a screenshot or passing smoke test is not evidence that a game is secure, performant, accessible, or ready to publish.

How to write effective Assistant prompts

A reliable prompt formula is:

Action + exact target + location/path + desired behavior + constraints + timing + success condition

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For example:

In Workspace, add a Script under the Part named GlitterPart.
At runtime, create yellow sparkles while a player is touching GlitterPart.
Handle multiple touching body parts correctly and remove the sparkles when no player remains.
Do not modify any other objects.

This is stronger than asking Assistant to make a part sparkle because it identifies the object, requires runtime behavior, describes the multiple-touching-parts edge case, and limits the scope of the edit.

Use exact names and paths

Name the object type as well as its name when confusion is possible:

Modify the Model named EnemySpawner inside Workspace.Level1.Spawners.
Do not modify the Folder named EnemySpawner elsewhere in the place.

Selection gives Assistant useful context. A selected object or group can be modified, duplicated, arranged in a pattern, or used as the scope for a bulk change. For mesh generation, a selected Part can also define the generated content’s size and location.

Distinguish edit time from runtime

One of the most common misunderstandings is the difference between a change made while editing and behavior that occurs when players run the game. If you ask Assistant to make the time of day 8:00 AM, it may set the property immediately in Studio. If you want the time to change while the game is running, say so explicitly and request the correct Script or LocalScript, trigger, and execution location.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Break complex work into stages

Instead of asking for an entire combat system, use smaller steps:

  1. Ask Assistant to create the folder and clearly named placeholder objects.
  2. Ask it to create the server-side state and validation.
  3. Ask it to add the client interface.
  4. Review and test each stage.
  5. Only then request polish, effects, or balancing changes.

For a task that crosses many objects or systems, use Planning Mode so the proposed work is visible before execution.

Expect iteration

Assistant responses are nondeterministic. If the first result is close but wrong, identify the specific mismatch:

The script is in the wrong location. Move it to ServerScriptService.RoundController.
Keep the existing event names and do not change the round-timer behavior.

Specific corrective prompts preserve useful work and reduce accidental rewrites.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A safe first project workflow

This small example demonstrates the complete cycle without asking Assistant to build an entire game.

  1. Create a Part in Workspace and name it GlitterPart.
  2. Select GlitterPart in Explorer or the viewport.
  3. Ask Assistant to add a runtime Script that creates yellow sparkles while at least one player is touching the part, handles multiple body parts correctly, and removes the effect when no player remains.
  4. Read the generated Script. Confirm that it is under the intended object, that it is a server or client script appropriate to the behavior, and that it does not modify unrelated instances.
  5. Apply the result.
  6. Click Play. Touch the Part, leave it, and test more than one character or touching body part if possible.
  7. Click Stop. Open Output and check for errors and warnings.
  8. If it fails, ask for a targeted diagnosis based on the actual error and observed behavior.
  9. If it is unwanted, use undo for the supported change or select the generated Script in Explorer and press Delete.

For non-script changes, the documented undo shortcuts are Ctrl+Z on Windows and Command+Z on Mac. For broad edits, save a copy or use source control before applying Assistant’s changes.

Planning Mode and the Plan–Build–Test workflow

Planning Mode changes the interaction from an immediate one-shot edit to a reviewable workflow. Open the dropdown in the Assistant input panel and select Plan, or type:

/plan

Assistant can analyze the request, existing code, and data model, ask clarifying questions, and produce a structured task plan. Current documentation says plans are:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Reviewable and adjustable before execution.
  • Saved as editable Markdown documents.
  • Stored in the cloud and persistent across chat sessions.
  • Tied to the experience and creator profile rather than a single chat.
  • Private to the creator and not visible to collaborators.
  • Openable in a dedicated Markdown editor.

Plans do not automatically execute. You must review the plan, edit it if necessary, and click Build to authorize execution. That approval gate is an important difference between a plan and an autonomous process.

Roblox described the larger Plan–Build–Test direction in its April 15, 2026 announcement. The intended loop is to analyze the project, create a task manifest, execute approved tasks, test the result, and use testing feedback in later planning. Planning Mode is particularly useful for UI systems, multi-object mechanics, refactors, and content pipelines where a single broad prompt would be difficult to review.

Assistant slash-command reference

The following commands are documented in current guides or recent Roblox announcements. Commands and menu labels can change, and a command may depend on the Studio version or rollout state.

Command Purpose Current qualification
/plan Enter Planning Mode. Documented in the current Assistant guide.
/insert_asset <asset_id> Insert a specific Roblox asset by numeric ID. Documented in the current Assistant guide.
/generate_mesh <prompt> Generate a textured 3D mesh from text or a reference image. Used in the current guide and prompt examples.
/generate_procedural_model <prompt> Generate an editable procedural model. Documented in the current Assistant guide.
/generate_material Generate a material. Appears in Roblox’s Planning Mode announcement; verify the live Studio UI before relying on it.
/rbx-create-skill <workflow description> Create a reusable creator-authored Skill. Announced July 9, 2026 and still a relatively new feature.

Mesh-command documentation note: the current Assistant guide’s prose refers to a /generate command but gives /generate_mesh as the concrete example. Follow the command exposed by your current Assistant interface; /generate_mesh is the specific command shown in Roblox’s examples. See the current guide and prompt guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mesh generation, procedural models, and segmentation

Textured mesh generation

Use /generate_mesh with either a text prompt or a reference image. A single request accepts text or an image, not both. If a Part is selected, Assistant can use that Part as a bounding box and constrain the generated mesh to its size and location.

The documented default maximum triangle count is 10,000. A lower triangle count generally produces a more faceted, low-poly result. Specify a maximum that suits the object and target platforms rather than assuming the highest number is best.

For reference images, Roblox recommends:

  • PNG format.
  • Good lighting and clear focus on the object.
  • A simple background.
  • An isometric or three-quarter view when possible.
  • Multiple viewpoints in one image for objects that cannot be represented clearly from one angle.
  • Avoiding low-poly reference images when the source does not contain enough visual information.

Segmentation

Segmentation divides a generated asset into independently editable components. This can let you apply different materials, attach scripts to individual parts, replace one component without regenerating the entire model, and control the final part list.

The current workflow lets you edit part names, add or remove entries, generate previews, and confirm the final model. The guide documents four preview images after the segmentation configuration is confirmed and a maximum of eight parts for each generated asset.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Roblox’s examples use names such as:

  • Car: body, left front wheel, right front wheel, left rear wheel, right rear wheel.
  • Sword: handle, hand guard, blade, pommel.
  • Treasure chest: body, lid.
  • Drone: body, left front propeller, right front propeller, left rear propeller, right rear propeller.

These are recommended descriptive names, not an immutable schema. Rename components only if doing so will not break scripts or later prompts.

Procedural models

A procedural model is different from a single fixed mesh. It is generated with /generate_procedural_model and can expose editable attributes such as count, spacing, length, curvature, or colors. The model responds to those parameters rather than requiring a new generation for every variation.

Roblox documents procedural models as integrating with undo and redo, Team Create, network replication, scaling, and dragger tools. They are organized in a dedicated GeneratedFolder and behave like ordinary objects until their parameters change. The documentation says they add almost no normal game overhead in their ordinary state.

The current documented quota is 50 procedural models in a rolling 24-hour window. Rolling means the limit is not necessarily reset at one fixed daily time. Treat this as the current documentation limit, not a permanent product guarantee.

Assistant Skills

Roblox announced creator-authored Skills on July 9, 2026. A Skill is a reusable Markdown instruction document that tells Assistant what a workflow does, when it applies, and which instructions it should follow.

Rank #4
Sale
Game Programming Patterns
  • Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories

Current announced Skill capabilities include:

  • Create a Skill from scratch.
  • Edit the Markdown inline.
  • Enable or disable it.
  • Duplicate a Roblox-authored Skill.
  • Delete a Skill.
  • Apply it automatically when its description matches a request.
  • Apply it manually from the slash menu.
  • Create a starter Skill with /rbx-create-skill.
  • Use Skills through third-party MCP clients including Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and Cursor.

Roblox also announced a Roblox-authored unit-testing Skill for Luau ModuleScripts. It can detect frameworks such as Jest-Lua or TestEZ and adapt to an existing setup. Because creator-authored Skills are a recent feature, check the July 9 announcement and the current Studio UI for availability and exact controls.

Assistant, Code Assist, Planning Mode, MCP, or manual Luau?

Tool Best for Interaction Control profile
Assistant in Studio Conversational help, place edits, asset insertion, code explanation, and prototyping. Assistant panel inside Studio. Can make direct changes; review them in Studio.
Code Assist Inline code completion while writing a script. Script Editor suggestions. You accept individual suggestions as you type.
Planning Mode Complex multi-step changes that need a reviewable plan. Plan editor followed by Build. Explicit approval before execution.
Studio MCP External AI coding agents, Git-oriented workflows, investigation, and automated testing. Cursor, Claude, VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, or another compatible client. An external client can read and modify an open place; connect only trusted clients.
Manual Luau Learning, critical systems, and maximum human control. Script Editor and Roblox APIs. Human writes and reviews every change.

Code Assist is inline completion in the Script Editor. It uses code and comments for context, can trigger automatically or manually, and accepts a suggestion with Tab. Roblox documents Alt+Backslash on Windows and Option+Backslash on Mac as the manual completion shortcuts.

Use Assistant when you want a conversation that can act on the place. Use Code Assist when you already know what you want to write and need inline boilerplate. Use Planning Mode when the task is broad enough that you want to inspect the steps first. Use MCP when your preferred AI client or editor is outside Studio. Use manual Luau when correctness, security, or understanding matters more than speed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Studio MCP server

The Studio MCP server is built into Roblox Studio and implements the Model Context Protocol. It lets a compatible external AI client communicate with an open Studio session through a local process using stdio transport. MCP is an integration layer; it is not another name for Assistant.

With an authorized client connected, the current official toolset can support operations such as:

  • Reading the data model and inspecting instances.
  • Reading and editing scripts with tools such as script_read, multi_edit, script_search, and script_grep.
  • Running Luau with execute_luau.
  • Searching and inserting assets with search_asset and insert_asset.
  • Generating meshes, materials, and procedural models.
  • Starting and stopping playtests with start_stop_play.
  • Reading console output with get_console_output.
  • Capturing screenshots with screen_capture.
  • Simulating keyboard, mouse, and character input.
  • Launching specialized exploration or playtest subagents with subagent.

The tool list and permissions are subject to change. Roblox’s Studio MCP documentation is the authority for current tools and supported clients.

Enable MCP in Studio

  1. Open Assistant in Studio.
  2. Click ….
  3. Select Manage MCP Servers.
  4. Turn on Enable Studio as MCP server.
  5. Use Quick Connect, a JSON configuration, or a CLI command.
  6. Restart the client if Studio or the external client requires it.
  7. Return to Assistant → … → Manage MCP Servers and confirm the green connected-client indicator.

Quick Connect currently lists Antigravity, Codex CLI, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Gemini CLI, and Visual Studio Code. Confirm that the client is installed before selecting it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Windows MCP configuration

Use this current configuration in the external client’s MCP settings:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "Roblox_Studio": {
      "command": "cmd.exe",
      "args": [
        "/c",
        "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Roblox\mcp.bat"
      ]
    }
  }
}

The equivalent Windows command is:

cmd.exe /c %LOCALAPPDATA%\Roblox\mcp.bat

macOS MCP configuration

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "Roblox_Studio": {
      "command": "/Applications/RobloxStudio.app/Contents/MacOS/StudioMCP"
    }
  }
}

The equivalent macOS command is:

/Applications/RobloxStudio.app/Contents/MacOS/StudioMCP

The official MCP guide says one client can connect to multiple Studio instances. That is useful for testing separate places, but it also increases the chance of editing the wrong open session. Keep place names and client tabs obvious, and verify the connected Studio instance before sending a mutation request.

MCP troubleshooting

  1. Restart both Studio and the MCP client.
  2. Verify the executable or command path.
  3. Check JSON syntax, including commas, braces, and brackets.
  4. Confirm the external client is installed before using Quick Connect.
  5. Look for the green connected-client indicator in Assistant’s MCP settings.

Because an MCP client can read and modify content in open places, Roblox warns users to connect only clients they trust. Do not paste API keys, private credentials, or other secrets into Assistant prompts, Skills, external client context, or generated scripts.

Undo, testing, and recovery

Recover from a normal Assistant edit

  • For non-script changes, press Ctrl+Z on Windows or Command+Z on Mac.
  • If Assistant created an unwanted Script, select it in Explorer and press Delete.
  • For a large change, close without saving only if you are certain that you do not need any intervening work.
  • For important projects, save a copy, use Team Create, or use source control before broad Assistant operations.
  • For a plan, inspect and edit the Markdown before clicking Build.
  • For generated assets, verify the hierarchy and use the normal Studio undo and redo workflow before publishing.

Do not assume every generated result can be cleanly undone as one conceptual operation. Check the Explorer hierarchy and your source-control diff when the change is broad.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a repeatable test loop

  1. Apply the proposed change.
  2. Click Play in Studio.
  3. Exercise the exact behavior requested.
  4. Test expected edge cases, not just the successful path.
  5. Click Stop.
  6. Inspect the Output window, warnings, scripts, and object hierarchy.
  7. Check server and client behavior when the feature crosses the network boundary.
  8. Ask Assistant for a focused fix based on an observed error.
  9. Repeat until the behavior is understood and stable.

For multiplayer features, also test respawning, multiple simultaneous players, exploit resistance, performance, mobile and console input, data persistence, and error handling. These are practical development recommendations, not guarantees that Assistant will test or solve them automatically.

Common failure modes

Symptom Likely cause Correction
Assistant changes the wrong object. The target name is vague, duplicated, or not selected. Select it and provide its complete path, such as Workspace.Level1.Doors.ExitDoor.
A property changes in Studio immediately. The prompt described an edit-time change instead of runtime behavior. Request a Script or LocalScript, specify the execution location, and describe the runtime trigger.
A script lands in an unexpected location. No object was selected and the prompt did not specify a path. Select the target or state the exact destination, such as ServerScriptService.RoundController.
The script looks plausible but does not run. Wrong script type, wrong location, API mistake, or client/server misunderstanding. Read the whole script, inspect Output, test the smallest reproduction, and compare the fix with Roblox API documentation.
A broad prompt makes too many changes. The requested scope is too large for a single immediate edit. Use Planning Mode or divide the work into reversible stages.
Procedural generation is unavailable. The current rolling quota may be exhausted or the feature may not be available in that Studio rollout. Check the current limit and use an existing asset, manual modeling, or another generation route.
The chat becomes confusing. Unrelated systems were kept in one long thread. Start a new chat for a separate task; chat threads have separate context.
The MCP client does not connect. Studio, path, JSON, installation, or client-state problem. Restart both clients, check the command and JSON, verify installation, and look for the green indicator.

When Assistant is useful—and when it should not work alone

Good uses

  • Luau boilerplate and small prototypes.
  • Repetitive object creation, renaming, and property changes.
  • Explaining unfamiliar code.
  • Creating a first draft of a UI or mechanic.
  • Searching for and inserting Creator Store assets.
  • Generating rough materials, meshes, and procedural models.
  • Exploring a place hierarchy or codebase.
  • Preparing a structured plan for a multi-step task.

Roblox’s core curriculum specifically presents Assistant as useful for organizing instances, configuring properties, generating boilerplate, and following detailed instructions.

Tasks that need manual development or experienced review

Do not rely on an unreviewed Assistant result for authentication, purchases, trading, economy systems, DataStore persistence, RemoteEvent or RemoteFunction security, anti-exploit logic, competitive multiplayer state, large refactors, performance-sensitive code, production networking, or moderation-sensitive content.

Assistant may be able to draft parts of these systems, but the recommendation to use manual development or an experienced reviewer follows from the documented nondeterminism and Roblox’s requirement that creators review and test generated output. Any generated system should be understandable to the person responsible for maintaining it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Privacy and Roblox AI data sharing

Assistant documentation does not tell the entire data-sharing story. Roblox’s dedicated AI data-sharing policy says Roblox uses shared data to train generative AI models and provides creator controls with important exceptions.

Current defaults

  • Games, avatar items, and paid Creator Store assets published before July 10, 2024 have data sharing off by default.
  • Games, avatar items, and paid Creator Store assets published on or after July 10, 2024 have data sharing on by default.
  • Free Creator Store assets are shared by default, and Roblox says there is no ability to disable sharing for them.

Global settings are managed in Creator Hub under your account name, then Settings → Data Sharing. Review the setting for the relevant project and asset type rather than assuming one decision applies identically everywhere.

What Roblox says happens to shared data

According to Roblox, shared data is used for AI-enhancement purposes and is not shared with third parties. Roblox also says the data is tokenized, retained only while useful for model improvement, and regularly purged. If a creator later stops sharing, Roblox says the data is removed from the training dataset within 30 days, while models trained using that data are updated within 365 days.

These are Roblox’s stated policy commitments, not independently audited guarantees. Roblox also says it no longer uses script data shared only with Roblox under the previous script-sharing arrangement; creators now decide whether to share entire games, including scripts.

For a school, child-safety program, commercial studio, or project containing proprietary code, review the policy and account settings before using AI features. Do not place credentials, private keys, personal data, or confidential information in prompts.

Moderation, rights, and creator responsibility

Roblox’s AI overview says generated content is subject to the same moderation and Community Standards framework as other content on the platform. The creator remains responsible for content generated within their games.

AI assistance does not transfer responsibility for:

  • Copyright, licensing, and rights clearance.
  • Safe and age-appropriate game design.
  • Roblox policy and Community Standards compliance.
  • Exploit-resistant server logic.
  • Privacy and appropriate data handling.
  • Performance and accessibility.
  • Testing before publishing.

Review inserted Creator Store assets and generated content just as you would review work obtained by any other method.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Roblox Assistant timeline and current-state notes

  • October 2023: Roblox’s generative-AI announcement provided early context for AI tools in Docs and Studio. Current Assistant is broader than those early descriptions.
  • April 15, 2026: Roblox announced a more agentic Studio direction built around Plan, Build, and Test workflows.
  • April 2026: Planning Mode and related review-before-build workflows became part of the documented direction.
  • July 9, 2026: Roblox announced creator-authored Skills, including /rbx-create-skill and a unit-testing Skill.
  • August 10, 2026: This guide’s verification date. Treat feature availability, quotas, command names, and supported clients as changeable.

Roblox’s creator documentation is maintained in the public creator-docs repository, while the live Creator Hub pages and Studio interface should be checked for the latest labels and rollout status.

Practical checklist before publishing Assistant-generated work

  • Save a copy or create a source-control checkpoint before broad edits.
  • Select the intended object and provide its full path.
  • State whether the request is an edit-time change or runtime behavior.
  • Ask for one bounded change at a time unless using Planning Mode.
  • Review every generated script and new descendant.
  • Check server/client placement and validate client input on the server.
  • Inspect external asset descendants, permissions, licensing, and performance.
  • Playtest the success path and failure paths.
  • Test multiplayer, respawning, persistence, platform input, and performance where relevant.
  • Use undo, delete, version control, or a saved copy when a result is wrong.
  • Connect only trusted MCP clients.
  • Never paste secrets or private credentials into prompts.
  • Confirm data-sharing settings for the project and assets.
  • Keep a manual fallback for every critical system.

It can plan and execute many related development tasks, but Roblox does not guarantee that one prompt will produce a complete, secure, balanced, or publish-ready game. Use Planning Mode for broad work, review the plan before Build, and test every generated system.

Is Roblox Assistant the same as Code Assist?

No. Assistant is a conversational tool that can answer questions and make place changes. Code Assist is inline completion in the Script Editor. Studio MCP is a separate integration that lets compatible external AI clients interact with an open Studio session.

Can Assistant on the Creator Hub website edit my open Studio place?

Roblox’s tutorial lists Assistant on the Creator Hub webpage, but the direct place-editing features documented in the main guide are Studio features. Do not assume the web surface has the same permissions or context as Assistant inside Studio.

What should I do if Assistant generates broken code?

Read the entire script, verify its type and location, inspect Output, reproduce the problem in a small test, and ask for a focused correction. For unwanted changes, use Ctrl+Z on Windows or Command+Z on Mac where applicable; an unwanted generated Script can be selected in Explorer and deleted.

Does Roblox use creator projects to train AI models?

Roblox’s current data-sharing policy says it uses shared data for generative-AI model training. Defaults differ by publication date and asset type, and free Creator Store assets are shared by default without an opt-out. Review Creator Hub → Settings → Data Sharing and Roblox’s current policy before using Assistant with proprietary work.

The Bottom Line

Roblox Assistant is most useful when treated as a fast, reviewable collaborator: select the right target, write a constrained prompt, inspect the change, playtest it, and keep a rollback path. Use Planning Mode for multi-step work, Code Assist for inline completion, and Studio MCP for trusted external AI clients. The tool can accelerate creation, but the creator still owns the code, content, security, privacy, moderation, and final quality.
