Elden Ring has 51 Bell Bearings in the base game and 10 in Shadow of the Erdtree, for 61 in total. Offer them to the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold to move merchant inventories or upgrade-material shops into one location. The most important rule is to finish any NPC quest you care about before killing that character for a bearing.
How Bell Bearings work
Bell Bearings expand the inventory of the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold. Take a bearing to them, choose Offer a bell bearing, and select the item. Merchant bearings usually move that merchant’s stock to Roundtable Hold; upgrade-material bearings unlock permanent shop tiers such as Smithing Stones, Somber Smithing Stones, and Glovewort.
The base game contains 51 Bell Bearings, and Shadow of the Erdtree adds 10 more, for 61 collectible bearings in the complete game. A bearing normally comes from killing a merchant or NPC, looting a corpse after a quest death, defeating a Bell Bearing Hunter, clearing a dungeon, or opening a chest.
Quest warning: Do not kill named NPCs simply to obtain their bearings unless you are finished with their dialogue, quest, rewards, and inventory conditions. The bearing may preserve shop access, but it does not restore the quest content you skipped.

Best Bell Bearings to collect first
If your immediate goal is upgrading equipment rather than completing every merchant inventory, follow this order:
- Collect Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing [1] and [2] for ordinary weapons.
- Collect Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing [1] and [2] for special weapons.
- Collect Glovewort Picker’s Bell Bearing [1] and Ghost-Glovewort Picker’s Bell Bearing [1] for spirit summons.
- Continue through the Mountaintops of the Giants and Crumbling Farum Azula bearings to unlock ordinary Smithing Stones through [8], Somber Smithing Stones through [9], and Grave Glovewort through [9].
These bearings do not unlock Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones, Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones, Great Grave Glovewort, or Great Ghost Glovewort. Those materials remain limited finds.

Most named bearings above are grouped with the region where the character is found. These two are best remembered separately because their bodies become available through quest progression:

The expansion adds 10 Bell Bearings in the Realm of Shadow. Several are inside rope-suspended pots. These pots are usually below a ledge or across a gap, so bring a bow, crossbow, throwing weapon, spell, or another ranged attack. Shoot the pot itself; the bearing drops when the container is destroyed.

Offer every bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks before starting a new journey. Upgrade-material and generic crafting bearings that have already been offered carry their shop expansion into subsequent journeys. Named NPC bearings that remain only in your inventory may need to be reacquired, so handing them in before New Game Plus is the safest procedure.
Bell Bearing completion checklist
There is no need to give a bearing to the Husks immediately after every pickup. You can safely collect several first, then offer them together at Roundtable Hold; the important step is offering them before beginning a new journey.
