10 Best Games Like VALORANT You Should Be Playing in 2024 (2026 Status Update)

Counter-Strike 2, Siege, Overwatch, Apex Legends, and seven more VALORANT alternatives—ranked by gunplay, abilities, movement, destruction, realism, and current availability.

Counter-Strike 2 is the closest game to VALORANT for pure tactical gunplay; Rainbow Six Siege is the closest for operator-style strategy; and Overwatch is the best hero-based alternative. The other strong choices cover movement, destruction, progression, classic arena shooting, portals, and realistic lethality.

This is a historically framed list of the 10 best games like VALORANT in 2024, updated with a 2026 availability note. VALORANT remains a free-to-play 5v5 tactical shooter with one life per round, attack-and-defense objectives, an economy, and agents with distinct abilities. Its PC and console matchmaking pools are separate.

What makes VALORANT different?

VALORANT combines lethal, round-based 5v5 gunplay with one-life-per-round stakes, an attack-and-defense structure, an economy for buying weapons and abilities, and agents with distinct skills. That combination makes it difficult to replace with one game.

The best substitute depends on which part you value most. Counter-Strike 2 is the closest match for precise gunplay, economy management, and bomb-site tactics. Rainbow Six Siege is the better choice if you want tactical decision-making plus operator gadgets and destruction. Overwatch is the closest hero-based alternative, while Apex Legends is the pick for movement and squad abilities.

This list preserves the original 2024 framing, but it includes a clearly marked 2026 status update. Some games that were good recommendations in 2024 have changed substantially—and XDefiant is no longer playable.

Best games like VALORANT at a glance

Rank Game Best for How it compares Access and platforms
1 Counter-Strike 2 Pure tactical gunplay Closest to VALORANT’s economy, aim, angles, and bomb-site rounds—without agents Free entry on PC; in-game purchases
2 Rainbow Six Siege Operator strategy and information More destruction, gadgets, surveillance, and map knowledge PC, PlayStation, and Xbox; limited free access with paid upgrades
3 Overwatch Hero abilities and 5v5 fights Similar character identity, but with respawns and much faster action Free to play on PC and consoles
4 Apex Legends Movement and squad abilities Legend combinations and team play in a battle-royale structure Free to play on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch
5 THE FINALS Destruction and objective play Creative team tactics through destructible arenas rather than one-life rounds Free to play on PC and current consoles
6 Destiny 2 Abilities, progression, and PvP variety More of an action MMO, with classes, subclasses, Supers, loot, and co-op Free entry on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox; substantial paid content
7 Halo Infinite Classic arena shooting Shield management, power weapons, map control, and team coordination Free multiplayer on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and cloud gaming
8 SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded Portal-powered arena combat Fast arena gunplay built around portals rather than agents Free to play; current platform availability can vary
9 Insurgency: Sandstorm Slower, lethal tactical combat Communication and careful movement matter more than abilities or colorful presentation Paid game on PC and consoles
10 XDefiant A 2024-only alternative Faction abilities and objective modes once made it a relevant free arcade-FPS option Discontinued; no longer playable

The order is not an objective ranking of quality. It is based mainly on how closely each game matches a different part of VALORANT’s appeal, with broader alternatives included afterward.

1. Counter-Strike 2 — best for pure tactical gunplay

If VALORANT’s abilities are the part you could live without, Counter-Strike 2 is the obvious next stop. It is the closest comparison for players who enjoy buying weapons, managing a round economy, clearing angles, controlling bomb sites, and being punished heavily for a bad peek or missed shot.

Counter-Strike 2 keeps the core tension simple: two teams contest an objective, every life matters, and your equipment choices affect the rest of the round and sometimes the next one. Grenades, smokes, flashes, and molotovs create tactical possibilities, but there are no agents with signature skills to rescue a losing situation. Success depends more directly on crosshair placement, recoil control, timing, positioning, and coordinated utility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That makes it similar to VALORANT without making it identical. Counter-Strike’s weapon behavior, movement, maps, and utility lineups have their own learning curve. The game can also feel less forgiving because there are fewer character-based tools to compensate for a positional mistake.

  • Choose it if: you want the most direct replacement for VALORANT’s gunplay, economy, and round structure.
  • Skip it if: your favorite part of VALORANT is choosing an agent and combining abilities with teammates.
  • Access: Steam lists it as a multiplayer PC shooter with competitive features and in-app purchases, with a free entry point.

2. Rainbow Six Siege — best for operator strategy and information play

Rainbow Six Siege is the strongest choice for someone who wants VALORANT’s tactical decision-making but wants more destruction, surveillance, and preparation. Ubisoft describes it as a team-based tactical shooter built around planning and execution, and that description matters: information is often as valuable as mechanical skill.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Operators bring specialized gadgets, attackers gather information and create openings, and defenders reinforce, trap, deny, or reshape important areas. Walls, floors, hatches, and other parts of the environment can be breached or used for sightlines. Drones, cameras, sound cues, and destructible surfaces make map knowledge unusually important.

Siege is still an attack-and-defense shooter, but its rounds can feel more methodical than VALORANT. You may spend more time droning, checking cameras, clearing rooms, and predicting the opponent’s setup before the decisive engagement. A successful plan can dismantle a defense before the first gunfight; a careless push can end the round immediately.

The current free-access model is limited compared with owning the full product. Selected modes are available without paying, while ranked play, additional operators, and some features require an upgrade. Check the current edition and regional restrictions before downloading or buying.

  • Choose it if: you enjoy utility, information gathering, site setups, and coordinated tactical execution.
  • Skip it if: you want clean, symmetrical gunfights with minimal environmental variables.
  • Biggest difference: Siege’s destructible maps and operator gadgets create more ways for the environment itself to become part of the strategy.

3. Overwatch — best for hero abilities and fast 5v5 team fights

Overwatch, formerly widely referred to as Overwatch 2, is the best match for players who primarily love VALORANT’s agents. Blizzard currently presents it as a free-to-play, team-based 5v5 action game with more than 30 distinct heroes.

SteelSeries QcK Medium Gaming Mousepad — Black
  • LEGENDARY MICRO-WOVEN CLOTH — An optimal surface for mouse precision and performance, the proprietary micro-woven cloth makes the SteelSeries QcK trusted by pros around the world, with over 15 million sold
  • PINPOINT MOUSE ACCURACY — Tested by the top mouse sensor manufacturer, the high thread count and smooth surface optimize mouse tracking accuracy for both optical and laser sensors
  • NON-SLIP BASE — The durable, non-slip rubber base is designed to eliminate unwanted movement and provide a solid platform for competitive gaming
  • PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE — For the past 15 years, esports pros have trusted the QcK as their mousepad of choice, and for good reason: SteelSeries products have won more prize money than any other brand
  • QcK SERIES — The QcK Series' legendary micro-woven cloth has made it the world’s best-selling surface. Available in multiple sizes and colors, the QcK is the gold standard for gamers everywhere

Every hero changes how a team approaches a fight. Some create space, some protect teammates, some heal or boost allies, and others specialize in mobility, disruption, or burst damage. Team composition and ability timing are central, so the appeal of learning a character and combining abilities with friends carries over well from VALORANT.

The fundamental rhythm is very different. Overwatch has frequent respawns, more continuous combat, objective-focused maps, and much faster engagements. You usually have more chances to recover after a mistake, but fights can also become chaotic as several ultimates and cooldowns overlap. Switching heroes during a match is another major strategic layer.

  • Choose it if: agent identity, ability combos, team roles, and 5v5 coordination matter more to you than one-life rounds.
  • Skip it if: you prefer the suspense of staying alive for an entire round and managing a buy economy.
  • Expectation: it is a hero shooter with tactical decisions, not a direct tactical-shooter replacement.

4. Apex Legends — best for movement and squad abilities

Apex Legends belongs on this list because it captures the character-driven team composition of VALORANT while adding much stronger movement and a survival-game structure. It is primarily a free-to-play battle royale with 60-player matches, squads, individual Legends, looting, open-map rotations, and a shrinking play area.

The best Apex teams combine Legend abilities with aggressive movement, high-ground control, smart rotations, and coordinated pushes. Sliding, climbing, ziplines, launch systems, and other movement options make repositioning a major part of combat. If what you really love about VALORANT is combining character abilities with an aggressive teammate, Apex offers a more mobile version of that fantasy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is not a round-based tactical shooter. You generally collect weapons and equipment during a match rather than buying a loadout at the start of each round, and a poor fight can end a squad’s run rather than merely costing one round. Apex also has modes beyond battle royale, but its central identity remains built around squads surviving and rotating through a large map.

  • Choose it if: movement, squad abilities, open-map decision-making, and fast team pushes sound more appealing than planted-bomb rounds.
  • Skip it if: you want compact maps, fixed attack-and-defense sites, or consistent weapon access from round one.
  • Access: free to play across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, with optional ongoing content and purchases.

5. THE FINALS — best for destruction and objective play

THE FINALS is a less obvious VALORANT alternative, but it is a strong choice if your favorite moments come from coordinated squads improvising around an objective. Its arenas are built around consequential environmental destruction: walls, floors, cover, and buildings can often be damaged or removed to create new routes and sightlines.

Cashout, Power Shift, and Team Deathmatch are among its available formats. The game’s class-style loadouts and gadgets let teams create combinations, while destruction gives those combinations a more physical, unpredictable quality. A team can open a new angle, drop an objective through a floor, collapse cover, or force opponents out of a safe position.

The trade-off is similarity. THE FINALS is faster and more objective-driven than VALORANT, with respawns and larger, more changeable arenas. It does not reproduce VALORANT’s one-life rounds, buy phase, or precise attack-versus-defense rhythm. Think of it as an alternative for coordinated ability use and clever objective plays, not a mechanical replacement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Choose it if: you want free team combat where the map can be reshaped during the fight.
  • Skip it if: you want predictable angles and a tightly controlled round economy.
  • Access: positioned as a free-to-play competitive shooter on PC and current consoles.

6. Destiny 2 — best for abilities, progression, and PvP variety

Destiny 2 is not a direct VALORANT substitute. It is a broader action MMO with PvE campaigns, cooperative activities, persistent characters, weapon collecting, subclasses, and PvP. It makes this list for players who want abilities and loadouts to matter more than one-life tactical rounds.

Bungie’s game combines high-impact first-person shooting with character classes, subclass systems, Super abilities, extensive weapon customization, and multiple competitive modes. You can spend time building a character, experimenting with weapons, completing activities with a fireteam, and then take that loadout into PvP.

  • EASY TO CLEAN, MULTIFUNCTIONAL: The mousepad gaming are extremely easy to clean, just wipe clean with a paper towel or wet wipes, computer mat patterns are extremely nice and beautiful, not only for home, office, games or a beautiful desktop decorations

The free-to-play label needs careful interpretation. Destiny 2 has a free entry point, but the complete experience is not free. Expansions and other paid content may be required for particular campaigns, subclasses, activities, and parts of the endgame ecosystem. It is best approached as a free way to sample the broader game, not as a promise that every destination or story is included.

  • Choose it if: you want a long-term character, powerful abilities, loot, co-op, and several kinds of PvP.
  • Skip it if: you want every player to start each match with a tightly controlled and easily comparable arsenal.
  • Biggest difference: progression and build customization are central, whereas VALORANT resets your equipment and economy from match to match.

7. Halo Infinite — best for classic arena shooting

Halo Infinite is a good alternative when what you want from VALORANT is clean arena fundamentals without agent abilities. Its multiplayer emphasizes shield management, accurate weapons, power pickups, map control, timing, and team coordination.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The shield system changes how fights unfold. Players must manage damage, seek cover to let shields recover, and use the right weapon or power item for the situation. Controlling powerful weapons and key parts of the map can matter as much as winning individual aim duels.

Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is free to play and includes ranked modes, custom games, Forge creations, and a broad playlist ecosystem. The campaign is separate from the free multiplayer and may require a purchase or subscription entitlement. Xbox identifies the game for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and cloud gaming, with cross-platform multiplayer.

  • Choose it if: you want classic arena shooting, readable weapon roles, shields, power weapons, and custom-game flexibility.
  • Skip it if: you specifically want agent abilities, a buy phase, or one-life tactical rounds.
  • Best fit: players who like VALORANT’s team fundamentals but would rather fight continuously in an arena setting.

8. SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded — best for portal-powered arena combat

Splitgate was a natural 2024 recommendation for VALORANT players who wanted competitive arena shooting with a distinctive movement mechanic. Its defining idea is simple but strategically rich: players place portals to create routes, escape danger, attack from unexpected directions, or take unusual sightlines.

The current product is SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded, not the original Splitgate and not the temporary Splitgate 2 branding. The developer says the original servers shut down in mid-August 2025, while Arena Reloaded replaced Splitgate 2 on December 17, 2025. The current game is free to play and specifically emphasizes arena-shooter combat without hero classes or ability-driven duels.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That makes it closer to the classic arena side of VALORANT than to its agent system. Portals can still create surprising team plays, but they change the geometry of a fight rather than functioning like character ultimates or signature abilities. The resulting game is faster, more vertical, and more movement-focused than VALORANT.

  • Choose it if: you want gunplay and map control with portals as the main source of creativity.
  • Skip it if: you want persistent agents, carefully rehearsed utility lineups, or a conventional tactical map.
  • Important: do not search for the 2024 product expecting the exact same live service. The name and service structure changed after the original recommendation.

9. Insurgency: Sandstorm — best for slower, lethal tactical combat

Insurgency: Sandstorm is the paid option for readers who want communication, cautious movement, and harsh weapon lethality without VALORANT’s colorful agents or ability combos. It focuses on close-quarters tactical combat and objective-based multiplayer, with cooperative PvE modes as another major part of the package.

Weapons feel more consequential, sightlines are dangerous, and rushing without information can end badly. Team communication and a disciplined approach to clearing buildings or crossing exposed areas are more important than flashy character skills. The game’s realistic tone and slower pace make it a better fit for someone seeking tension and authenticity rather than a one-to-one mechanical replacement.

Insurgency: Sandstorm does not reproduce VALORANT’s economy or agent system. Its appeal is the severity of its combat and the way small positioning errors can quickly become team problems. It is also a paid game, so do not treat it as a free alternative simply because it is sometimes discounted or bundled.

10. XDefiant — a historical 2024 pick that is no longer playable

XDefiant was a legitimate VALORANT-adjacent recommendation in 2024. Its free-to-play arcade-FPS format, faction abilities, and objective modes gave players a faster alternative that still included team roles and ability-based combat.

That recommendation is now historical only. Ubisoft announced on December 3, 2024 that new downloads and registrations would stop immediately. The servers were scheduled to remain active until June 3, 2025, and Ubisoft later described the game as discontinued after it failed to retain enough players to justify continued investment.

There is no current “download XDefiant” recommendation here. It remains in the 2024 list because it accurately represents the games players were considering at the time, but it should not be presented as an available alternative in 2026.

Windows troubleshooting: only if the game will not launch

Switching games will not solve a Windows driver conflict, corrupted installation, crash, or launcher failure. Start with the game developer’s official support documentation, verify the installation, update the GPU driver from the manufacturer, check Windows updates, and review crash logs before installing third-party software.

For optional help organizing driver-related troubleshooting, readers can consider Outbyte Driver Updater after checking the GPU manufacturer’s official support resources.

For readers who specifically want a third-party option, an appropriately limited Windows game troubleshooting tool may help organize common repair and driver-related tasks. Outbyte offers PC Repair and Driver Updater products, but they should be treated as optional troubleshooting utilities—not as required competitive software. They are not a basis for promising higher FPS, lower ping, better aim, or a higher rank. Disclosure: this is a secondary software mention and may be monetized; use official support and hardware-driver sources first.

For optional help with common Windows repair tasks, readers can also consider Outbyte PC Repair while continuing to treat official game support as the first step.

Which VALORANT alternative should you choose?

  • Closest to VALORANT’s core gunplay: Counter-Strike 2.
  • Closest to tactical abilities and information play: Rainbow Six Siege.
  • Best hero-shooter alternative: Overwatch.
  • Best movement-and-ability alternative: Apex Legends.
  • Best destruction and objective alternative: THE FINALS.
  • Best for progression and powerful abilities: Destiny 2.
  • Best classic arena alternative: Halo Infinite.
  • Best portal-based arena alternative: SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded.
  • Best realism and lethality alternative: Insurgency: Sandstorm.
  • Best free casual starting point: Overwatch, Apex Legends, THE FINALS, or Halo Infinite multiplayer, depending on whether you prefer heroes, movement, destruction, or traditional arena combat.

For the most seamless transition, start with Counter-Strike 2 if your VALORANT sessions are about aim and round economy, or Siege if your favorite moments involve utility and information. Choose Overwatch or Apex when the agents themselves are what keep you playing. The remaining games are better understood as different answers to the question “what do I enjoy about VALORANT?” rather than identical replacements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the closest game to VALORANT?

Counter-Strike 2 is the closest match for VALORANT’s precise gunplay, weapon economy, bomb-site objectives, angle clearing, and one-life round structure. Its major difference is that it has no agents or character abilities.

Which game is most like VALORANT but has more tactical abilities?

Rainbow Six Siege is the best choice if you want tactical abilities and team planning. It adds destructible environments, drones, cameras, operator gadgets, and more emphasis on information gathering. Its current free-access offering is limited compared with the full paid version.

Can you still play XDefiant?

No. Ubisoft announced that new XDefiant downloads and registrations would stop on December 3, 2024, with servers remaining active only until June 3, 2025. The game was later described as discontinued.

What happened to Splitgate?

The current successor is SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded. The original Splitgate servers closed in mid-August 2025, and Arena Reloaded replaced the temporary Splitgate 2 direction on December 17, 2025.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are all of these VALORANT alternatives free?

No. Destiny 2 has a free entry point, but expansions and other paid content may be required for the complete campaign and endgame experience. Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is free, while its campaign is separate.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Counter-Strike 2 is the closest VALORANT alternative for pure tactical gunplay, while Rainbow Six Siege best matches the combination of abilities, information, and coordinated attack-and-defense play. Overwatch and Apex Legends are better when hero identity and abilities matter more than one-life rounds. Treat XDefiant as a historical 2024 entry only, and look for SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded rather than the old Splitgate or Splitgate 2 branding.
