Under the old PLS DONATE game-pass system, Roblox took 30% of the listed donation price. The experience owner received another 10%, leaving the recipient with about 60%. Since Roblox disabled cross-game pass sales in May 2026, the newer Transfers API uses a different split: Roblox takes no platform fee, the experience creator receives 10%, and the recipient receives 90% when the transfer is supported and eligible.
Under the old PLS DONATE game-pass system, Roblox took 30% of the listed donation price. The PLS DONATE experience owner received another 10%, so the person being donated to kept approximately 60%.
For example, a 100 Robux donation historically produced this result:
- 30 Robux: Roblox’s platform share
- 10 Robux: PLS DONATE’s experience-owner share
- 60 Robux: the recipient’s balance
That is not the whole current story. Roblox announced that cross-game sales of passes and developer products would be discontinued on May 29, 2026. Roblox’s current Passes documentation says cross-game pass sales were disabled beginning in late May 2026 and recommends the Transfers API for experiences that rely on donations or tipping.

Under the supported Transfers API model, Roblox charges no platform fee. The participating experience creator receives 10%, and the recipient receives 90%, provided the transfer is available and the relevant eligibility and safety requirements are met.
The short answer
| Donation method | Roblox receives | Experience creator receives | Recipient receives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Former cross-game game-pass method | 30% | 10% | 60% |
| Transfers API, where supported | 0% platform fee | 10% | 90% |
So, if you are asking about the familiar old PLS DONATE button, the answer is 30% to Roblox, not 40%. The total reduction from the listed price was about 40%, but the other 10% went to the experience owner. If you mean Roblox’s newer transfer framework, Roblox’s platform share is 0%.
How the old PLS DONATE split worked
The traditional PLS DONATE setup displayed a player’s clothing or game passes inside another experience. When another player bought one of those items, the purchase was treated as a cross-experience sale rather than a direct, fee-free transfer.
The historical split was:
- Roblox retained 30% as its platform commission.
- The PLS DONATE experience received 10% for facilitating the transaction.
- The owner of the purchased pass or clothing item received the remaining 60%.
Roblox’s general commission information documents the platform’s standard in-experience monetization share; the later Transfers API announcement explains why the new transfer route provides a higher recipient payout than the former cross-game arrangement.

| 500 Robux | 150 Robux | 50 Robux | 300 Robux |

These figures describe the transaction split, not necessarily the exact time when the recipient could spend or exchange the Robux. The official PLS DONATE page historically warned that clothing and game-pass donations could take up to a week to appear, depending on the transaction process.

What changed in May 2026?
Roblox announced the end of cross-game sales of passes and developer products to address fraud and exploitation concerns. This matters because the traditional PLS DONATE model depended on a player buying another player’s pass from inside a different experience.
As a result, it is no longer accurate to describe the old 60/10/30 split as the universal current PLS DONATE rate. Roblox’s current monetization documentation points developers toward the Transfers API for in-game tipping and donation features instead.
There is an important qualification: the official PLS DONATE game page still describes donations through clothing and game-pass sales and says the displayed Robux amount may be reduced by Roblox taxes. That page may not fully reflect the later platform-wide change. Roblox’s current developer documentation and its platform announcement are the stronger sources for understanding the new rules.
How the Transfers API split works
Roblox’s newer transfer framework is designed for in-game tipping and donations. Under this route:
- Roblox platform fee: 0%
- Experience creator commission: 10%
- Donation recipient: 90%
A 100 Robux transfer would therefore result in 10 Robux for the participating experience creator and 90 Robux for the recipient, rather than 30 Robux going to Roblox and 60 Robux reaching the recipient under the old pass-sale model.

Transfers are not simply the old game-pass purchase with a different label. Roblox says sending Robux requires Roblox Plus, and transfers are subject to safety checks and eligibility requirements. The feature also has to be implemented and supported by the experience; do not assume that every PLS DONATE server or donation experience has automatically switched to the API.
Roblox describes Transfers API payments as immediate, which differs from the historical wait associated with clothing and game-pass transactions. The 90% received through a transfer is also not eligible for Developer Exchange (DevEx), according to Roblox’s announcement. In other words, a recipient should not treat transferred Robux as equivalent to Robux earned through a monetized developer product.
Why some answers say Roblox takes 40%
You may see “Roblox takes 40% from PLS DONATE” because the recipient historically received only 60% of the listed price. That wording combines two different deductions:
- 30% went to Roblox.
- 10% went to the PLS DONATE experience owner.
Therefore, 40% did not go to Roblox. Saying Roblox itself took 40% is inaccurate for the old arrangement.
Does the recipient get the full amount shown on a PLS DONATE stand?
No—not under the former game-pass system. The amount shown as the donation price was the buyer’s listed price, not the amount the recipient would ultimately receive. Under that system, multiplying the listed price by 0.60 gives the historical recipient payout:

recipient payout = listed price × 0.60
For the newer transfer route, the corresponding calculation is:
recipient payout = transfer amount × 0.90
The second calculation applies only when the transfer is actually made through the supported Transfers API and all applicable conditions are satisfied.

| If you mean… | Use this answer |
|---|---|
| An old PLS DONATE game-pass purchase | Roblox took 30%; the experience took 10%; the recipient kept 60%. |
| The total amount not received by the recipient under the old setup | About 40%, but that consisted of 30% for Roblox and 10% for the experience. |
| A current Transfers API donation | Roblox takes no platform fee; the experience gets 10%; the recipient gets 90%. |
| Every current PLS DONATE transaction | No single rate can safely be assumed without knowing which payment method the experience is using. |
Bottom line
Historically, Roblox took 30% from a PLS DONATE game-pass donation, while the experience owner took 10% and the recipient received 60%. Roblox later disabled cross-game pass sales in May 2026. For the newer Transfers API, Roblox charges no platform fee: the experience creator receives 10% and the recipient receives 90% when the feature is supported and the transfer is eligible.
That is why “Roblox takes 40%” is an incomplete answer. It describes the old recipient shortfall, not Roblox’s own share—and it should not be presented as the universal current rate.
