To enable Roblox Studio’s dark interface, open File → Studio Settings, search for theme, and choose Dark. The setting changes Studio’s menus and panels without changing your game’s player-facing UI.

Quick steps

  1. Launch Roblox Studio.
  2. Click File in the upper-left corner.
  3. Select Studio Settings.
  4. Use the search box at the top and type theme.
  5. Open the Studio theme setting and choose Dark.

The theme normally updates without special configuration. If part of Studio remains unchanged, close and reopen the application.

Roblox documents Studio as a desktop application for Windows and macOS. You can open Studio Settings with Alt+S on Windows or Option+S on macOS. See Roblox’s official Studio setup documentation for the current workflow.

If you cannot find the setting

  • Search for theme, rather than only “dark mode.”
  • Make sure you opened Studio Settings, not Experience Settings.
  • If categories are visible, check Studio → General.
  • Depending on your Studio version, the option may be called Theme or UI Theme. Older guides may also say File → Settings instead of File → Studio Settings.
  • Install any available Studio update, restart Studio, and search again.

Roblox says an outdated Studio installation displays an Update button in the upper-right corner. If the control is still missing after updating and restarting, it may reflect a temporary issue, a changed label, or a staged interface update.

What Roblox Studio dark mode changes

Studio dark mode changes the editor’s native interface, including menus, panels, tool windows, and other Studio controls. Roblox introduced the feature to make working in low-light conditions more comfortable, but comfort varies by user and it is not a guaranteed medical benefit.

It does not automatically restyle your game. Your game’s ScreenGui objects, frames, buttons, text, and other player-facing elements must be designed separately. For Roblox’s supported game-interface styling system, see the UI Styling documentation.

Studio theme versus Script Editor colors

The general Studio theme and the Script Editor’s colors can be separate settings. If the surrounding interface is dark but the code editor is still bright, open Studio Settings and search for script editor or color preset. Adjust the Script Editor Color Preset or its individual color settings if available.

Changing the application theme does not guarantee a completely black editor or identical colors in every Studio revision. Roblox documents both a separate Theme property and Script Editor Color Preset in its Studio reference.

Switch back to light mode

Use the same route: File → Studio Settings, search for theme, then choose Light or the available light/system option. No plugin, JSON edit, registry change, or command is required.

Do you need a plugin or configuration file?

No. Roblox Studio has a built-in theme setting, so unofficial Fast Flag edits, ClientAppSettings.json changes, modified launchers, and other installation-folder workarounds are unnecessary for the normal supported method and may break when Studio changes.

Plugins are a separate case: plugin authors can use Roblox’s Studio style-guide colors and the ThemeChanged event to make plugin widgets respond to Studio theme changes. That does not mean a plugin is needed to enable dark mode.

Important distinctions

Roblox Studio dark mode: changes your local development application.

Roblox website or mobile dark theme: changes the Roblox account or app appearance through its own settings; it is separate from Studio. Roblox explains that consumer theme setting here.

Dark game UI: requires editing the game’s UI objects, scripts, StyleSheets, or theme system. Changing Studio’s theme does not alter what players see.
