PlayStation Accessories is Sony’s free Windows app for updating DualSense and DualSense Edge controller software. DualSense Edge owners can also use it to create profiles and adjust button, stick, trigger, vibration and adaptive-trigger settings. Download it from Sony’s official PlayStation Support page, then connect your controller by USB or Bluetooth.
Download PlayStation Accessories safely
Use Sony’s PlayStation Support controller page and select Download PlayStation Accessories. This is the official download route for the Windows utility. Avoid repacked installers, download managers, cracked versions and unofficial “latest version” pages.
The app was previously known as Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller. Sony’s support page does not provide a stable version number in its indexed information, while third-party listings currently show different version signals. Download the version displayed on Sony’s page rather than relying on a hard-coded number.
System requirements and supported devices
- Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11.
- Connection: A USB data connection or compatible Bluetooth hardware.
- Supported controllers: DualSense wireless controller and DualSense Edge wireless controller.
Third-party listings report at least 250 MB of storage and a minimum 1280 × 800 display resolution, but Sony’s support page should be treated as the authority for current requirements.

A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
The app is a Windows application, not a Mac or mobile utility. A DualSense controller may connect to supported Mac, phone and tablet devices, but those devices do not run PlayStation Accessories. DUALSHOCK 4 and Access controller are not identified as supported devices for this app.
Install and connect the controller
- Open Sony’s controller support page.
- Select Download PlayStation Accessories.
- Run the downloaded Windows installer and accept the license terms.
- Launch the app from the Windows Start menu.
- Connect the controller with a USB cable or pair it through Bluetooth.
USB is the best choice for first-time setup and firmware updates. Make sure the cable supports data transfer; a charging-only cable may power the controller without allowing the app to detect it. Connect directly to the PC rather than through an unpowered hub when possible.
Update a DualSense controller
- Connect the DualSense to the PC.
- Open PlayStation Accessories and select the controller.
- Open the firmware or device-software update section.
- Select Update if a newer version is available.
- Leave the controller connected until the update finishes.
The app should show the connected controller and its current software status. If no update is offered, the controller is likely already current. Do not disconnect the cable, shut down Windows or restart the PC during an update.
If you own a PS5, you can also update a DualSense through Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software. A PS5 is not presented as a prerequisite for using the Windows app.

Update a DualSense Edge
- Connect the DualSense Edge and open PlayStation Accessories.
- Select Firmware for your controller.
- Check the displayed firmware version.
- Select Update when available.
- Keep the PC powered on and the controller connected until completion.
When updating multiple controllers, update them one at a time. Sony’s DualSense Edge PC guide specifically warns against disconnecting the controller or turning off the PC during the process.
What DualSense Edge owners can customize
PlayStation Accessories provides deeper configuration for the DualSense Edge than for the standard DualSense. You can create and edit profiles containing:
- Button assignments
- Stick sensitivity and deadzone settings
- Trigger deadzone settings
- Vibration intensity
- Adaptive-trigger-effect intensity
- Profile shortcuts
The controller stores up to four profiles total: the default profile plus three custom profiles. Sony documents these shortcuts:
- Fn + Triangle: profile one
- Fn + Circle: profile two
- Fn + Cross: profile three
- Fn + Square: profile four
Because profiles are saved to the controller, they can be used when the controller is connected to another compatible device. These documented customization features should not be assumed to apply to the regular DualSense.

PlayStation Accessories versus PlayStation Link PC Driver

PULSE headsets and PlayStation Link products do not become supported devices simply because they are PlayStation-branded. Use Sony’s separate driver for them.
What the app does not do
PlayStation Accessories is a firmware and controller-settings utility, not a universal PC game-input translator. It does not guarantee PlayStation button prompts, make every game recognize a controller, or convert a DualSense into an Xbox/XInput controller. It is also separate from Steam Input, DS4Windows and DualSenseX.
Game support varies. Sony notes that DualSense features depend on the device and game, and some PC games may require a USB connection for haptic feedback. See Sony’s PlayStation PC gaming support for game-specific limitations.
Troubleshooting
The controller is not detected
- Try a known data-capable USB cable.
- Connect directly to another USB port on the PC.
- Confirm the controller is powered on.
- Close competing controller utilities temporarily.
- Restart PlayStation Accessories, then restart Windows.
- Try Bluetooth only after confirming the wired connection.
A controller can remain paired with another device, so Bluetooth may require pairing again. If it remains unusable, press the small reset button on the back, then reconnect it to the PC or PS5. For persistent hardware or update problems, use Sony’s controller support and repair options.

The firmware update fails or stalls
Do not repeatedly interrupt the update. Keep the controller connected, avoid hubs and unstable Bluetooth connections, restart Windows and reopen the app. If the controller becomes unresponsive, use Sony’s reset procedure and contact PlayStation Support or Repairs.

Does PlayStation Accessories work on Windows 10?
Yes. Sony documents support for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. 32-bit Windows is not included in the documented requirement.
Can PlayStation Accessories customize a normal DualSense?
Its main standard-DualSense function is firmware updating. The documented button, stick, trigger and profile customization is for DualSense Edge.

Does the app work on Mac?
No. PlayStation Accessories is a Windows app. A DualSense may connect to supported Mac versions, but the app itself cannot be installed on macOS.
Do I need a PS5 to use it?
No. Sony supports updating and configuring these controllers from a Windows PC, although feature availability can vary by device and game.
Does it support DUALSHOCK 4?
DUALSHOCK 4 is not listed as a supported controller for PlayStation Accessories.
