If Windows says adsloc32.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, repair the program that supplied it rather than downloading an unrelated DLL.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing Windows, answer these questions:
- Which program shows the error? The application name may appear in the error window, taskbar, shortcut, or Event Viewer.
- When does it happen? Does it occur when launching the application, opening a database, signing in, or accessing a shared folder?
- Is the application 32-bit?
adsloc32.dllis a 32-bit component. A 64-bit version of the application will not use this particular library. - Is the program installed locally or run from a network share?
- Does the application folder contain
adsloc32.dll? - Was the problem first noticed after an update, antivirus detection, cleanup, or incomplete uninstall?
- Does the program use Advantage Local Server or connect to a remote Advantage Database Server?
The most likely repair is to use the original application installer or its Repair option. If the program belongs to a company, contact its software vendor or IT administrator before replacing any files.
What is adsloc32.dll?
adsloc32.dll is described as 32-bit Advantage Local Server. It is part of Advantage Database Server and related client products, historically associated with Extended Systems, later Sybase/iAnywhere and SAP.
Advantage Local Server provides local database-engine functionality to applications that work with local or shared database files without requiring a remote database server. SAP documentation identifies the Windows Local Server library as ADSLOC32.DLL; Linux uses a different library name.

This is not a Windows system DLL. It normally belongs beside the application or its Advantage client files, not in:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64
A 64-bit edition of Windows can run a 32-bit application, but the application itself must be compatible with the 32-bit Advantage component.
The application may also use companion files such as:
ace32.dllaxcws32.dlladslocal.cfgANSI.CHREXTEND.CHR
The exact files vary by Advantage release and by the way the application vendor packaged the runtime.

This is the safest and fastest fix because it restores the complete runtime supplied by the application vendor.
For a Microsoft Store or packaged application
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Select Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
Windows may repair the program without removing its documents or settings. If the error remains, return to the same screen and select Reset only if you have confirmed that the application’s data is backed up. Resetting can remove application data.
For a classic desktop program
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the affected application.
- Look for Repair, Change, or Modify.
- Follow the installer’s repair instructions.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Launch the application from its normal shortcut.
If the repair completes successfully, the application should start without the missing-file message. If the installer reports that its source files are unavailable, use the original installation package or ask the application vendor for the correct installer.
Do not select a random Advantage release merely because its name looks similar. The application may require a particular older ADS or client version, and mixing releases can leave incompatible companion files behind.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Fix 2: Reinstall the original application
If Repair is unavailable or ineffective, reinstall the application that first reports the error.
- Back up the application’s documents and database files.
- Record any license key, server name, configuration values, or connection details.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the affected application.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Obtain the installer from the application vendor, your organization’s software administrator, or an authorized SAP/OEM source.
- Install the program using an administrator account if required.
- Start the application and test the same operation that originally failed.
For older business software, the correct installer may be held by the vendor rather than publicly available. SAP download access can depend on the release, account, entitlement, and OEM relationship. If the product is no longer maintained, the vendor may still have the original Advantage runtime package.
A reinstall is more reliable than copying one DLL because it restores the expected files, registry settings, configuration, shortcuts, and application-specific version.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Security software can remove or quarantine a legitimate application file. The filename alone does not prove that a detection was false, so verify the file’s origin before restoring it.

- Expand any entry related to the affected application or
adsloc32.dll. - Do not choose Allow on device unless you recognize the application, trust its installer, and have confirmed the file came from the legitimate vendor package.
- Scan the original installer or application folder before restoring anything.
- If the file is restored, launch the application and test it.
- If Windows Security removes it again, stop restoring it and contact the application vendor.
You can also run a full scan:
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Scan options.
- Choose Full scan.
- Select Scan now.
For a serious or persistent detection, use Microsoft Defender Offline from the same Scan options screen. Do not create an antivirus exclusion simply to make the error disappear.
If the file was quarantined, reinstalling the complete application from a verified installer is usually safer than restoring an isolated file.
Fix 4: Confirm the file is in the application’s expected folder
Use File Explorer to check the installation directory.
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, select Open File Location.
- Look for
adsloc32.dll. - Also look for an application folder named
Redistribute,Runtime, or a similarly vendor-defined directory. - Check whether the expected companion files are present.
- Do not move files yet.
If adsloc32.dll is present but the application still says it is missing, Windows may be reporting a dependency or loading failure rather than a physically absent file. Possible causes include:
- A missing companion DLL
- A mismatched Advantage release
- A damaged installation
- Incorrect application search paths
- Restricted permissions
- A 32-bit application being given the wrong architecture
- A network-share deployment that cannot load local dependencies
If the vendor’s deployment instructions explicitly support it, a known-good copy from the original installer may be placed in the application’s own directory. Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64, and do not use a file from a DLL download website.
Fix 5: Check 32-bit compatibility and mixed versions
adsloc32.dll is a 32-bit library. The affected program should therefore be a 32-bit application using the matching Advantage Local Server components.
To check a running program:
- Start the application if possible.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading.
- Select Select columns.
- Enable Platform if your Windows version provides that column.
- Look for the application process and check whether it is running as 32-bit or 64-bit.
The exact display varies by Windows version. You can also ask the software vendor which architecture and Advantage release the program requires.
Do not replace an older adsloc32.dll with a newer or older copy from another computer. The file may be tied to companion libraries, configuration files, application interfaces, and licensing arrangements. A version mismatch can produce a new loading error even when the original missing-file message disappears.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If the application is launched from a network share, copy or reinstall it to a supported local folder for testing. A local test can reveal whether permissions, unavailable shares, drive mappings, or network security policies are preventing the runtime from loading.
Fix 6: Check permissions and run the application correctly
A file can exist but still fail to load if the account cannot read the application directory.
- Browse to the application’s installation folder.
- Right-click the folder and select Properties.
- Open the Security tab.
- Confirm that your Windows account has permission to read and execute files.
- If this is a managed computer, ask the administrator to review the permissions rather than changing them broadly.
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Run as administrator for one test.
If running as administrator works, the underlying issue may involve permissions, a restricted profile, or an application that writes configuration files to a protected location. Do not permanently grant full control to every user without guidance from the vendor or administrator.
For a Remote Desktop session, test the application locally if possible. Also check whether the program depends on a mapped drive that is unavailable in the remote session.

Fix 7: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
Windows system repair commands do not normally recreate adsloc32.dll, because this is a third-party Advantage component. They are appropriate when other Windows files or features are also failing.
First run DISM, then SFC:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command is a substitute for reinstalling the Advantage application.
Repeating these commands is unhelpful if they report that Windows is healthy while only the third-party application remains broken. In that situation, return to the application repair or reinstall steps.
If manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC/DISM leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system issues; its free scan identifies problems, while repair features require the full version. Reinstalling the Advantage application remains the definitive fix when that program supplied adsloc32.dll.

Fix 8: Update or reinstall related drivers only if the error identifies one
adsloc32.dll is an application database runtime, not a normal device driver. Device Manager will not usually restore it. Check drivers only when the application error also identifies a printer, storage controller, network adapter, database connection device, or other hardware component.
To inspect drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the hardware named in the error.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the provider and date.
- Use Update Driver only with a driver from Windows Update or the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not uninstall an important device merely because adsloc32.dll is missing. If several devices have outdated drivers and manually identifying the correct versions is taking time, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation features require the full version. It is not a replacement for reinstalling the Advantage application.
Why regsvr32 usually does not fix this error
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a COM registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A database runtime library loaded by an application is not automatically a COM component.
Running this command is therefore not a standard repair:
regsvr32 adsloc32.dll
It may produce an error saying that the entry point is missing, or that the module could not be loaded. That does not prove the file is bad.
Use regsvr32 only if the application vendor’s instructions specifically identify adsloc32.dll as a registerable component and provide the correct 32-bit command environment. Otherwise, repair or reinstall the parent application.
Why Visual C++ Redistributable installation may not help
Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables provide Microsoft C and C++ runtime libraries. They do not normally install adsloc32.dll.
Install or repair a Visual C++ package only if the error also names a missing Microsoft runtime such as:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
MSVCP*.dllMSVCR*.dllVCRUNTIME*.dll
Even then, use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable download instructions and choose the architecture required by the application. This is separate from restoring Advantage Local Server.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What not to do
Avoid these common mistakes:
- Do not download
adsloc32.dllfrom a random DLL site. - Do not copy a DLL into
System32or `SysWOW64 because an error mentions those folders. - Do not mix Advantage releases from different applications.
- Do not restore an antivirus quarantine item without checking its source.
- Do not assume the newest Advantage package is compatible with an old application.
- Do not use registry cleaners to repair this file.
- Do not run
regsvr32repeatedly without vendor instructions. - Do not replace a working application folder with files from another computer.
A standalone download can contain malware, the wrong version, the wrong architecture, or incompatible companion files. It also leaves the underlying installation problem unresolved.

If reinstalling does not help, collect this information for the application vendor:
- The exact application name and release
- The complete error message
- Whether the application is 32-bit
- The application’s installation path
- Whether
adsloc32.dllis present - The presence of
ace32.dll,axcws32.dll,adslocal.cfg,ANSI.CHR, andEXTEND.CHR - Recent antivirus detections
- Whether the application runs locally, from a network share, or through Remote Desktop
- Whether another Windows account can launch it
- Any application or Windows Event Viewer errors
To open Event Viewer:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failed launch.
- Record the application name, faulting module, and exception details.
The vendor can determine whether the program needs Advantage Local Server or a remote Advantage Database Server connection. If it uses a remote server, installing Local Server may not be the correct solution.
