Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallvlide.dll is an Autodesk application component called the Visual LISP IDE resource DLL. If Windows reports that vlide.dll is missing, cannot be loaded, or was not found, repair the Autodesk AutoCAD installation that owns it rather than downloading an individual DLL.
The most reliable sequence is to identify the AutoCAD edition, install available Autodesk updates, repair the installation when that option exists, and otherwise uninstall and reinstall the same product and release. Windows repair commands are secondary because vlide.dll is not a Windows system file.
Identify vlide.dll before repairing it
| Item | What is known |
|---|---|
| File | vlide.dll |
| Description | Visual LISP IDE resource DLL |
| Product area | Autodesk Visual LISP Support |
| Publisher | Autodesk Inc |
| File category | Application component |
| Windows system file | No |
| Typical owner | Full AutoCAD or an AutoCAD-based Windows product |
| AutoCAD LT | Visual LISP is not supported |
| Version, size, path | Release-dependent and not reliably documented by Autodesk |
Visual LISP is the development environment for editing and debugging AutoLISP while AutoCAD is running. It is not an independent Windows program, and vlide.dll is not a general-purpose runtime used by unrelated applications.
Visual LISP is supported on AutoCAD for Windows, but not AutoCAD LT. Autodesk has also described the Visual LISP IDE as obsolete and is directing newer workflows toward the AutoCAD AutoLISP extension for Visual Studio Code. Whether a particular release still contains vlide.dll depends on the product and release installed.

What the error message actually means
You may see messages such as:
- “Error loading vlide.dll”
- “Failed to load vlide.dll”
- “The program can’t start because vlide.dll is missing”
- “This application failed to start because vlide.dll was not found”
- “The file vlide.dll is missing or corrupted”
- “The specified module could not be found”
The final message is important. “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that vlide.dll itself is absent. It can also mean that Windows found the file but could not load one of its dependent components.
Before changing anything, record:
- The exact error text.
- The Autodesk product name and release.
- Whether it is full AutoCAD, an AutoCAD vertical, or AutoCAD LT.
- Whether the error appears when AutoCAD starts or only when you invoke
VLIDE. - Whether the issue began after an update, failed uninstall, disk cleanup, antivirus action, or move of the program folder.
- Any additional file named in the message, including
vcruntime*.dllormsvcp*.dll.
Do not select a replacement DLL based on a version, file size, or architecture listed by an unofficial download page. Autodesk does not provide a definitive public version, size, hash, or installation-path matrix for this file.
1. Confirm that the installed product supports Visual LISP
A common mistake is trying to restore Visual LISP to AutoCAD LT. AutoCAD LT does not provide the Visual LISP IDE.
Check the installed edition
- Press Windows and type
Installed apps. - Open Installed apps.
- Search for
AutoCAD. - Read the complete product name.
- Note the release or year shown in the entry.
- Check whether another Autodesk product, such as an AutoCAD-based vertical, is the program producing the error.
If the installed product is AutoCAD LT and a script or instruction expects the VLIDE command, the missing file is not necessarily an installation defect. Confirm that the software requiring Visual LISP is intended for full AutoCAD or another supported AutoCAD-based product.
If AutoCAD still launches, type VLIDE at the command line only if the error occurs when opening the IDE. If AutoCAD fails before the command can be used, continue with the installation repair steps.
2. Update AutoCAD through Autodesk Access
A partial update or failed installer can leave an application component missing. Autodesk Access is the supported update channel for installed Autodesk products.
- Press Windows and type
Autodesk Access. - Open Autodesk Access.
- Allow it to finish checking installed products.
- Find the affected AutoCAD product.
- Select Update if an update is offered.
- Close AutoCAD and other Autodesk applications when prompted.
- Allow the update to complete without shutting down the computer.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch AutoCAD and test the action that previously produced the error.
If Access reports that the product is current but the error remains, continue to repair or reinstall the product. Do not copy a file from another Autodesk release to compensate for an incomplete update.
3. Repair the Autodesk installation
Repair is the preferred fix when the installed release provides a repair option. It restores missing product files from the original installation source without asking you to identify individual DLLs.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Use the older Autodesk repair path
- Close AutoCAD and all Autodesk applications.
- Press Windows, type
Control Panel, and open it. - Select Uninstall a program under Programs.
- Select the exact Autodesk product producing the error.
- Choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Repair when the Autodesk installer presents that choice.
- Follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows when the repair finishes.
- Start AutoCAD and test Visual LISP again.
If the repair completes successfully, Windows should no longer report the missing component when the affected feature is opened. If the installer cannot find its source files, asks for installation media, or reports that repair is unavailable, do not browse for a downloaded DLL. Use the reinstall procedure below.
Current Autodesk releases
Newer installation experiences may not provide the older Repair function. AutoCAD 2022 and later commonly require an uninstall and reinstall instead of the legacy repair workflow.
- Save custom AutoLISP files, profiles, templates, and other personal configuration files.
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the affected Autodesk product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Complete the Autodesk removal process.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the same product and release from your Autodesk account or its official Autodesk installation source.
- Start the product and test the command or feature that failed.
A reinstall must match the product edition and release. Do not mix a DLL from full AutoCAD with AutoCAD LT, an AutoCAD vertical, or another release.
4. Check Windows Security Protection history
Microsoft Defender or another antivirus product may have quarantined an Autodesk file. Treat this as a security decision, not as proof that every missing file should be restored.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck Microsoft Defender
- Press Windows and type
Windows Security. - Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
vlide.dllor the affected Autodesk installation directory. - Expand the event and review its detected path, publisher information, and action.
- Restore the file only if you have confirmed that it belongs to a genuine Autodesk installation and the detection is a false positive.
- If available, choose the option to allow the file or folder only after verifying the installation.
- Restart AutoCAD and test it.
If the file was quarantined, reinstalling AutoCAD from Autodesk is usually safer than restoring a single file. Reinstallation also restores related manifests, dependencies, and installation metadata.
If the file appears outside the Autodesk installation tree, has an unexpected publisher, or was detected as malware, do not restore it. Run a full security scan and reinstall the Autodesk product from its official source after the system is clean.
5. Check for a missing dependency
A loader can name vlide.dll even when another library prevents it from loading. Look closely at the full error and any installer or event details.

- MICROSOFT WINDOWS 11 PRO (INGLES) FPP 64-BIT ENG INTL USB FLASH DRIVE
Common dependency names may include Microsoft Visual C++ runtime files such as:
vcruntime*.dllmsvcp*.dll
Do not install a Visual C++ package merely because vlide.dll is missing. The Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is relevant when the error explicitly names a Visual C++ runtime DLL or the Autodesk installer identifies that prerequisite.
If a Visual C++ runtime is named:
- Record the exact missing filename.
- Confirm whether the Autodesk product is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Obtain the matching redistributable from Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable downloads page.
- Install the package required by the Autodesk product.
- Restart Windows.
- Test AutoCAD again.
The architecture of Windows does not by itself determine the architecture of every application DLL. The owning Autodesk executable determines which component is required. Never combine files from different Autodesk years, languages, editions, or bitness.
6. Reinstall the correct product if repair fails
If repair is unavailable or does not restore the component, perform a complete reinstall of the affected Autodesk product.
- Write down the exact product name and release from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Back up personal AutoLISP files and custom settings.
- Uninstall the affected product through its Autodesk or Windows uninstaller.
- Restart Windows.
- Sign in to your Autodesk account or use the official Autodesk installation source for that product.
- Download the installer for the same product and release.
- Run the installer as an administrator if Windows requests permission.
- Allow all prerequisite and product installation steps to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch AutoCAD and test Visual LISP.
If the error survives a normal reinstall, use Autodesk’s documented clean-uninstall procedure for that product and release. Removing folders or registry entries at random can damage other Autodesk products and should not be the next step.
If the file exists but the program still cannot load it, test the installation under a new Windows administrator profile:
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Select Other users.
- Choose Add account.
- Create a test local account.
- Change its account type to Administrator.
- Sign in to that account.
- Launch AutoCAD and repeat the test.
If AutoCAD works in the new profile, the original profile, permissions, or AutoCAD user configuration is more likely damaged than the installed DLL.
7. Use DISM and SFC only for broader Windows corruption
DISM and SFC do not normally restore an Autodesk-owned vlide.dll. Use them when other Windows components are failing, multiple applications report system-file errors, or the Autodesk installer itself cannot function correctly.
Run DISM first
- Press Windows.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Restart Windows if requested.
Run SFC second
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows and test AutoCAD.
SFC repairs protected Windows system files. DISM repairs the Windows component store used by that process. Neither command is a substitute for repairing or reinstalling the Autodesk product.
If you regularly repeat these commands without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and show what it identifies; its full version performs repairs, but reinstalling the Autodesk product remains the definitive fix for an Autodesk-owned file.
8. Check graphics and other drivers only when the evidence points there
A graphics driver usually does not supply vlide.dll, so updating a driver is not the primary remedy for this error. Consider it only when AutoCAD also crashes, displays rendering errors, or reports a driver-related dependency.
Check drivers in Device Manager
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the installed graphics adapter.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the provider, date, and version.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- Test AutoCAD again.
Do not replace a graphics driver solely because vlide.dll is missing. The Autodesk repair or reinstall path remains the appropriate fix.
If checking every driver manually becomes the larger problem, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show the detected versions; driver installation is handled by the full version, and it is not a replacement for reinstalling AutoCAD when vlide.dll itself is damaged.
What not to do with vlide.dll
Do not download a standalone DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, an incorrect release, the wrong architecture, or a file with no connection to your Autodesk installation. Public listings also conflict about the file’s version, size, and bitness.
Even a clean file may not fix the underlying problem. The installer may also need to restore dependencies, manifests, licensing components, permissions, and other files.
Use the official Autodesk installer, Autodesk Access, or a supported Autodesk repair procedure instead.

Do not copy it to System32 or SysWOW64
vlide.dll is an application component, not a Windows system DLL. Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 can create a version conflict and does not repair the Autodesk installation.
The correct location is determined by the Autodesk installer and the owning executable. Do not guess the path.
Do not run regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that vlide.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX DLL.
Running:
regsvr32 vlide.dll
may produce an error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found. It will not restore a missing file or repair an incomplete Autodesk installation.

Do not mix releases or architectures
A file from another AutoCAD year, language, edition, or architecture is not a valid replacement. Do not assume that 64-bit Windows requires every application DLL to be 64-bit. The Autodesk executable loading the file determines what it needs.
If the error occurs only when opening VLIDE
If AutoCAD launches normally but the failure appears only when you invoke VLIDE, check the release and product edition first.
- Full AutoCAD and supported AutoCAD-based products may provide Visual LISP.
- AutoCAD LT does not provide the Visual LISP IDE.
- Autodesk describes Visual LISP as obsolete and recommends the AutoCAD AutoLISP extension for Visual Studio Code in newer workflows.
- A release may retire or remove the IDE even though older instructions still tell you to use
VLIDE.
If the installed product should support the feature, update it through Autodesk Access and repair or reinstall it. If the release no longer includes the IDE, use the supported AutoLISP development workflow for that release instead of forcing an old DLL into the installation.
Frequently asked questions
Is vlide.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with Autodesk Visual LISP and AutoCAD. Windows repair tools do not normally restore it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Does AutoCAD LT need vlide.dll?
No. Visual LISP is not supported in AutoCAD LT. Verify the product edition before attempting a repair.
Can I fix the error by installing Visual C++ Redistributable?
Only if the complete diagnostic names a Visual C++ runtime dependency or the Autodesk installer identifies it. Visual C++ Redistributable is not a verified direct source for vlide.dll.
Should I register vlide.dll with regsvr32?
No. This file is identified as a Visual LISP IDE resource DLL, and there is no verified evidence that it exposes the registration entry point required by regsvr32.
Why does the message say the module cannot be found when the file is present?
A dependency, manifest, permission, or architecture mismatch may prevent Windows from loading the file. Check the full error and repair the Autodesk installation rather than replacing only the named DLL.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What if reinstalling AutoCAD does not help?
Confirm that you reinstalled the exact product and release, check Defender Protection history, test with a new administrator profile, and follow Autodesk’s clean-uninstall procedure. If other Windows applications are also failing, then run DISM followed by SFC.
What information should I provide to support?
Provide the exact Autodesk product and release, full error text, whether AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT is installed, when the failure began, whether antivirus quarantined anything, the installation source used, and any installer or Windows event details. Avoid sending a DLL copied from an unofficial site as a proposed fix.
