1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitcheshpzpnp07.dll is a legacy HP printer component, not a Windows system DLL. If Windows reports that hpzpnp07.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, the most likely cause is damaged or incomplete HP DeskJet software left behind by an old printer installation.
The safest repair is to identify the HP printer software that requests the file, remove that software, and install the correct driver package for the exact printer model. Do not download the DLL by itself or copy it into a Windows system folder.
What hpzpnp07.dll belongs to
Available package evidence places hpzpnp07.dll in older HP DeskJet and HP USB-printing packages, particularly software made for Windows 2000 and Windows XP-era printers. It is an application component supplied with the program that installed it.
| Detail | What is known |
|---|---|
| File | hpzpnp07.dll |
| Category | Third-party application component |
| Associated software | Older HP DeskJet and HP USB-printing packages |
| Windows system file | No verified evidence shows that it ships with Windows |
| Architecture evidence | Historical packages identify it with Win32 software; no verified current 64-bit release is established |
| Reported metadata | Some third-party listings report version and size information, but these details are not authoritative |
A 32-bit HP utility can run on 64-bit Windows through Windows-on-Windows 64, commonly called WOW64. That does not mean every old HP driver is compatible with Windows 10 or Windows 11. The printer model and the installed Windows release determine which package is appropriate.

Messages associated with this error
You may see one of these reported variants:
- “The program can’t start because hpzpnp07.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “This application failed to start because hpzpnp07.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading hpzpnp07.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The file hpzpnp07.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: hpzpnp07.dll.”
The exact message matters. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that hpzpnp07.dll is present but one of its dependent files is missing.
Before changing anything, decide whether the error comes from an HP utility that starts with Windows or from an actual print job. If printing works and only a popup appears at startup, you may be dealing with an obsolete HP utility rather than a currently required printer driver.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the correct HP printer software
This is the most reliable repair when you still use the printer.
1. Identify the printer and installed HP software
- Note the exact printer model from its label or from Windows.
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for entries containing HP, DeskJet, Printer Assistant, or the printer model.
- Also check Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features for older HP entries.
If the popup names a particular application, write that name down. The filename alone cannot identify the exact program that is requesting it.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match2. Disconnect and remove the old package
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect its USB cable if it uses one.
- In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the HP printer software.
- Select the three-dot menu, choose Uninstall, and follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Control Panel.
- Select View devices and printers.
- Right-click the old HP printer and choose Remove device.
- Restart Windows again if the uninstall process requests it.
HP’s removal process generally works best when the printer is disconnected before the software is removed. If the uninstall entry is absent, continue with the printer removal and proceed to the driver installation step.
3. Download the model-specific package from HP
Use HP’s official printer driver selector. Search for the exact model, choose the installed Windows version, and select the package HP offers. Depending on the printer, it may be called a Full Feature Driver, Basic Driver, or HP Easy Start.

Do not select a similarly named DeskJet model. Older printers often have closely related model numbers but different driver packages.
- Download the package from HP.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the installation wizard.
- Connect or turn on the printer only when the installer asks.
- Restart Windows and the printer after setup completes.
- Print a test page from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
You have fixed the problem if the HP application opens without the DLL message and a Windows test page prints successfully. If the installer says that the printer is unsupported, do not force an XP-era package onto Windows 11. Check whether Windows offers a built-in driver or whether the model requires a supported replacement.
Manually checking every old printer package and deciding which driver matches your Windows installation can be tedious. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. For this file, however, reinstalling the exact HP printer software remains the definitive fix.
Fix 2: Remove an obsolete startup utility
Use this path when the printer is no longer used, or printing works and only a startup popup remains.
Uninstall the old application
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for HP-related applications.
- Remove the application associated with the old printer.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove the unused printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
If you cannot identify the application, inspect the popup title and the shortcut or startup entry that launches it. Do not delete random registry values merely because they contain the filename.
Check startup entries
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for an HP entry associated with the old printer.
- Right-click it and select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
If the popup disappears and you no longer use the printer, leaving the old software uninstalled is the correct resolution. If the printer is still needed, reinstall its supported package instead of disabling all HP startup entries.

- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
hpzpnp07.dllor the HP printer software. - Note the original file path and the application that requested it.
Do not restore the file simply because its name looks familiar. Restore it only when the file is inside a genuine HP installation and Windows Security or your organization’s security software confirms that it is safe. In most cases, reinstalling the HP package is safer than restoring an isolated DLL.
If the file is located in an unexpected temporary folder, a user profile folder, or a directory unrelated to HP software, run a full scan before reinstalling anything. A replaced DLL can indicate that the original application directory has been tampered with.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components
Windows repair commands are useful when system files or the component store are damaged. They are secondary for this error because hpzpnp07.dll is not established as a protected Windows file. DISM and SFC should not be expected to recreate a third-party HP DLL.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Run DISM
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the HP application again. If both commands complete without resolving the error, return to the HP uninstall and reinstall procedure. Do not keep repeating SFC and DISM when the missing file belongs to an old printer package.
When manually comparing component versions and repeating system repairs is taking too long, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported Windows issues; its free scan shows what it found, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the HP application remains necessary when that application is the source of the missing DLL.
Fix 5: Check Device Manager and Windows’ built-in driver
If HP no longer provides a package for your Windows release, Windows may still be able to use a built-in printer driver.

If Windows detects the printer and prints successfully without the old HP utility, use that configuration. If the device remains unidentified, the printer may be too old for the current Windows release or may require a supported connection method.

Do not download the DLL separately
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, an incompatible architecture, an incorrect version, or a file that does not match the application’s dependencies. Even a clean-looking replacement may fail because the real problem is a damaged HP installation or a missing dependent module.
Use the official HP printer driver selector or Windows’ built-in driver process instead.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Copying hpzpnp07.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is not a reliable repair. It can place an incompatible file in a location used by other applications and make later troubleshooting harder.
Do not run regsvr32 automatically
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that hpzpnp07.dll should be registered manually.
Do not run commands such as these as a general repair:

Frequently asked questions
Is hpzpnp07.dll part of Windows 10 or Windows 11?
No verified evidence indicates that it is a Windows system component. Available package listings associate it with older HP printer software.
Is it a 32-bit or 64-bit DLL?
The strongest historical package evidence identifies it with Win32 software and Windows 2000/XP-era packages. There is no verified public evidence establishing a current native 64-bit release. Use the driver package selected for the exact printer and Windows version rather than choosing based only on the DLL name.
Can SFC restore hpzpnp07.dll?
Not normally. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, while this file is associated with third-party HP software. Reinstall the HP package.
Why does Windows say that the specified module could not be found when the file exists?
The DLL may have a missing dependency, or the application may be searching the wrong installation path. Removing and reinstalling the complete HP package repairs the dependency set more safely than copying individual files.
What if I no longer own the HP printer?
Uninstall the obsolete HP software, remove its printer entry, and disable its startup entry if necessary. If the popup stops, no replacement DLL is needed.
What if HP has no driver for my printer?
Try Windows’ built-in printer driver through Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. If the model is unsupported and cannot print reliably, forcing an old package is unlikely to be a safe long-term solution.
