1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsgsdx32-sse2-r5350.dll belongs to the legacy GSdx graphics plugin used by older PCSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator installations, not to Windows itself. The safest fix is to repair or replace the complete PCSX2 package that supplied it rather than downloading this DLL separately.
What this file actually does
GSdx is a graphics plugin for the older PCSX2 plugin architecture. It handled rendering for PCSX2 and was originally developed by Gabest. The r5350 portion identifies an old PCSX2 revision or build lineage.
The filename also contains two important compatibility clues:
32means the plugin is 32-bit. It must be loaded by a compatible 32-bit PCSX2 process.sse2identifies the CPU-instruction-set build. It is not automatically interchangeable with SSSE3, AVX, or other GSdx variants.r5350points to an older PCSX2 revision family, not a Windows release.
Third-party file indexes describe the file as a “GS plugin for ps2 emulators” and associate it with Gabest. Their reported version and size are index metadata, not vendor-confirmed release records, so use them only as identification clues.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
Current PCSX2 releases no longer use this historical plugin arrangement in the same way. If you do not specifically need an old PCSX2 installation, moving to the current official PCSX2 Windows build is usually safer than reconstructing an obsolete plugin folder.
Causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| The file is missing immediately after extracting PCSX2 | Incomplete extraction or deleted plugin | Extract or reinstall the complete matching PCSX2 package |
| The error appeared after antivirus activity | GSdx was quarantined | Check Protection History and restore only from a trusted package |
| “The specified module could not be found” while the DLL is visible | A dependency of GSdx is missing | Repair the matching x86 runtime or legacy DirectX component |
| “Not designed to run on Windows” | Corruption, wrong architecture, or a renamed file | Replace the complete PCSX2 package |
| PCSX2 starts but graphics initialization fails | Wrong GSdx build or unsupported CPU instruction set | Use the plugin supplied with that PCSX2 release |
| The problem returns after reinstalling | Quarantine, permissions, storage damage, or a bad unofficial bundle | Check security history, folder location, disk health, and migrate to official PCSX2 |
Fix 1: Repair or replace the complete PCSX2 installation
This is the highest-probability fix because GSdx is an application component, not a Windows component.
Preserve your PCSX2 data
Before removing anything, preserve memory cards and configuration files.
- Close PCSX2 completely.
- Press Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
- Locate the folder containing the PCSX2 executable.
- Copy the entire PCSX2 folder to another location as a backup.
- If your installation stores memory cards or settings in your Documents folder, copy those folders as well.
Do not delete the old folder until you know where your saves and configuration files are stored.

If a specific game or setup requires the old PCSX2 build:
- Use the original PCSX2 installer or archive that created the installation.
- If it is an archive, right-click it and select Extract All.
- Extract it to a normal local folder such as
C:GamesPCSX2, not a temporary directory. - Allow the extraction to finish completely.
- Confirm that the emulator executable, plugin files, and supporting files are present together.
- Start PCSX2 from that folder.
Do not copy only gsdx32-sse2-r5350.dll into the old directory. The matching PCSX2 revision may require other plugins, configuration files, libraries, and runtime components.
Move to current PCSX2
For most users, replace an obsolete or unofficial bundle with the current official PCSX2 Windows release.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A successful repair means PCSX2 opens without the missing-DLL message and reaches its normal setup or game-launch screen. If the same filename still appears, verify that your shortcut is not launching an older copy elsewhere.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may remove or quarantine an old emulator plugin, particularly when the file is from an unofficial or incomplete package.
Windows Security
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Select Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the PCSX2 folder or GSdx.
- Open the event and review the detected path.
Restore the file only when all of the following are true:
- The file came from a trusted, intact PCSX2 package.
- The package was obtained from the official developer or a known-good personal backup.
- You have scanned the package and the computer.
- The detection is understood rather than unexplained.
Do not disable antivirus protection simply to accept a DLL from an unknown archive. If the source is questionable, delete the old bundle and install PCSX2 from its official source instead.
If the file is restored but disappears again, the security product is still blocking it or the package itself is unsafe. Reinstalling from a trusted source is preferable to repeatedly overriding protection.
Fix 3: Repair dependencies named by the full error
A message mentioning gsdx32-sse2-r5350.dll does not always mean that the named file is absent. Windows can display the same style of error when GSdx exists but one of the libraries it needs cannot be loaded.

Read the entire error carefully. The dependency may be named in a second message, an event record, or a crash report.
Install the x86 Visual C++ runtime when required
A 32-bit PCSX2 plugin needs the x86 Visual C++ runtime, even on 64-bit Windows.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open Microsoft’s page for the Latest Supported Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Download the x86 package, not only the x64 package.
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Accept the license terms.
- Select Install, or select Repair if the runtime is already installed.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch PCSX2 again.
Microsoft’s current x86 download is vc_redist.x86.exe. This repairs a dependency only. It does not install or recreate gsdx32-sse2-r5350.dll.
Install legacy DirectX components only when named
If the error names files such as d3dx9_*.dll, use Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer.
- Download
dxwebsetup.exefrom Microsoft. - Run it as an administrator if Windows requests permission.
- Accept the license terms.
- Decline optional software if offered.
- Allow the installer to complete.
- Restart Windows and test PCSX2.
This package supplies legacy side-by-side components such as older D3DX libraries. Installing a newer DirectX version alone does not necessarily install those optional legacy files.
Fix 4: Check the plugin architecture and CPU target
Do not mix files from different PCSX2 releases.
A 32-bit GSdx file belongs beside the compatible 32-bit PCSX2 executable and plugin set. It cannot be repaired by placing it in a 64-bit installation. Likewise, an SSE2 build may not work correctly when replaced with an AVX or SSSE3 build, or vice versa.

Fix 5: Update graphics drivers
A graphics driver normally does not restore the missing GSdx file, but an old driver can cause PCSX2 graphics initialization failures after the DLL problem is repaired.
Update through Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click your graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Install an offered driver and restart Windows.
For a newer driver, use the graphics manufacturer’s official support page. Do not use a driver intended for a different graphics model.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through hardware entries and guessing which driver is stale; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. PCSX2 still needs its own complete, compatible package.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only if Windows itself is damaged
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They generally cannot recreate a third-party PCSX2 plugin that was never part of Windows, so use them after repairing PCSX2 and its dependencies.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the operation to complete successfully.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test PCSX2.
Microsoft documents this DISM and SFC sequence. If SFC reports repaired files but PCSX2 still reports the same DLL, reinstall PCSX2. The result does not prove that GSdx was restored.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of identifying system problems less tedious: its free scan shows what it finds, while repairs are performed by the full version. For this file, reinstalling the matching PCSX2 package remains the definitive repair.
Do not copy this DLL to System32
Do not place gsdx32-sse2-r5350.dll in:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- Another application’s folder
- A random directory listed in the Windows PATH
The correct location is normally the PCSX2 installation or its plugin directory. System directories can create version conflicts and make it harder to identify which program is loading the file.
Do not use regsvr32
GSdx is normally loaded directly by PCSX2 as a graphics plugin. It is not normally a COM or ActiveX component that needs registration.
Running a command such as:
regsvr32 gsdx32-sse2-r5350.dll
will not restore a missing plugin and may produce an error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found. Microsoft documents regsvr32 for DLLs that expose registration entry points, not for ordinary emulator plugins.

Avoid random DLL download sites
Downloading the isolated file is risky because the copy may have:
- The wrong PCSX2 revision
- The wrong CPU-instruction-set build
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- Missing dependencies
- An altered or malicious payload
- No trustworthy provenance
Even a file with the correct name may not solve the original problem. Use the original PCSX2 installer or archive, or download a complete current build from the official PCSX2 website.

Frequently asked questions
Is gsdx32-sse2-r5350.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with the legacy GSdx plugin for PCSX2 and is not a built-in Windows system component.
Can 64-bit Windows run this DLL?
Yes, through a compatible 32-bit PCSX2 process. The DLL itself must remain matched to a 32-bit emulator and compatible plugin set.
Will Visual C++ restore the missing DLL?
No. The x86 Visual C++ Redistributable can restore a missing runtime dependency, but only PCSX2’s complete package supplies the GSdx plugin itself.
Why does Windows say “specified module could not be found” when the file exists?
A dependency imported by GSdx may be missing, or the file may be corrupt, incompatible, or blocked. Inspect the complete error before replacing files.
Should I register GSdx with regsvr32?
Normally no. PCSX2 loads GSdx as a plugin and does not require normal DLL registration.
Can System Restore bring it back?
It can help if PCSX2 worked previously and a restore point predates the disappearance, but reinstalling the complete emulator is the more direct first-line repair.
What if the error returns after reinstalling?
Check antivirus quarantine, confirm the shortcut launches the repaired installation, avoid cloud-synchronized or temporary extraction folders, verify folder permissions, and consider storage or disk corruption. If the package is unofficial, replace it with the current official PCSX2 release.
