“The program can’t start because ws_image.dll is missing from your computer.” A ws_image.dll error usually means that a media application cannot find one of its own files, not that Windows has lost a system component.
Which fix applies to you
Use the description that matches your situation:
- The error appears when launching Wondershare UniConverter, DVD Creator, or another media application: repair or reinstall that exact application first.
- The error started after antivirus activity: inspect Protection history and quarantine before restoring anything.
- The file exists, but Windows says “The specified module could not be found”: a dependency beside
ws_image.dllmay be missing. - You copied the program folder from another computer: install the application normally instead of using the copied folder.
- Several Windows components are failing: run DISM and SFC, but do not expect them to reinstall this third-party DLL.
- The error appears after uninstalling an application: remove the orphaned startup entry or reinstall and uninstall the program cleanly.
- The file is in
System32,SysWOW64, or an unrelated folder: treat it as suspicious and scan the computer.
What is ws_image.dll
ws_image.dll is a third-party application library whose descriptive name is commonly reported as WS_IPP Dynamic Link Library. The strongest documented association is with Wondershare software, particularly legacy versions of Wondershare UniConverter. It has also appeared with older Wondershare DVD and media products and some related Daniusoft or Aimersoft applications.
It is not normally a Windows component. Windows does not generally install it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
The file normally belongs in the installation directory of the application that uses it, sometimes inside a product subfolder such as MultimediaLibs. Nearby files may include other WS_ media-processing libraries. The filename alone cannot identify which application is responsible, so start with the program named in the error.

Public inventories show the file in different product generations and builds. That does not establish one universal version, size, language, or architecture. A copy from one Wondershare or Aimersoft product may not work in another.
Fix 1: Identify and repair the parent application
This is the most likely solution when only one media program fails.
Find the application that needs the file
- Read the complete error message and note the executable named in the window, if shown.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps and look for Wondershare, Aimersoft, Daniusoft, DVD, converter, transfer, or media software.
- Open Settings with
Windows+I. - Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for the application name.
- Select its three-dot menu and choose Advanced options if available.
- If there is a Repair button, select it and let Windows complete the repair.
Not every desktop application provides the Advanced options or Repair button. If Repair is unavailable, use the program’s own installer or uninstaller.
Reinstall from the official source
- Back up project files, presets, downloaded media, and license information.
- In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the affected program.
- Choose Uninstall and complete the vendor’s removal process.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the software publisher’s official support or download page.
- Install the same product family and the correct Windows build.
- Start the application before restoring custom files or changing its installation folder.
For Wondershare software, use Wondershare’s official UniConverter or product support and download pages. Do not substitute an installer for a similarly named Aimersoft, Daniusoft, or DVD application.
How to tell whether it worked: the application should open without the ws_image.dll message, and its installation folder should contain the complete set of files restored by the installer.
If the error remains, check whether the message names the same executable. A second application may be generating the error, or the visible message may actually refer to a dependency that ws_image.dll needs.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can quarantine a legitimate application file after an update, incomplete installation, or false detection.
Check Windows Security
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
ws_image.dllor the parent application. - Expand the entry and record the detected path.
- Compare that path with the application’s normal installation folder.
Restore the file only when all of these conditions are met:
- The file is inside the expected application directory.
- The affected program was installed from its official source.
- The file’s publisher and digital signature are consistent with the parent application where a signature is provided.
- A full security scan finds no other suspicious files.
To inspect a signature, right-click the file, select Properties, and open Digital Signatures. An unsigned file is not automatically malware, but an unexpected location or unrelated publisher is a reason to reinstall rather than restore.
If the antivirus still detects the file, do not create an exclusion. Remove the application and install a fresh copy from its official source.
Fix 3: Confirm that the file path and architecture match
A 32-bit application needs its matching 32-bit library set, even on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit application needs the corresponding 64-bit files. Public records for ws_image.dll do not establish one architecture for every copy.
Do not decide the architecture by copying a DLL between folders. Instead:

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and note the affected program’s version.
- Open the application’s installation folder from its shortcut:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Check whether
ws_image.dllis present in that folder or a product subfolder. - Right-click the main executable and select Properties > Details.
- Compare the program release with the installer or support information from its publisher.
- If the folder was copied from another computer, uninstall it and install the program normally.
Do not copy ws_image.dll into System32 or SysWOW64. That can create search-order problems, mix incompatible architectures, and hide the real damaged installation.
Fix 4: Repair a missing dependency
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that ws_image.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found it but failed to load another library that it requires.
The safest repair remains a complete reinstall of the parent application. If the application’s official requirements identify a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable or another runtime, install that requirement from Microsoft and restart Windows.
Do not install Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, or other runtimes at random. They help only when the application requires that runtime or the error identifies a related missing component.
You can also inspect the application’s installation logs:
- Open the application folder.
- Look for folders named
Logs,Setup,Install, orCrash. - Open the newest text or log file.
- Search for
missing,failed,load, ordependency. - Use the result when contacting the software publisher.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They do not normally reinstall a private Wondershare or other media-application DLL, so use them when Windows itself shows wider corruption or multiple unrelated programs are failing.
Run DISM first
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run SFC second
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows and test the application.

Repeating SFC and DISM while guessing what changed can be time-consuming. If DISM or SFC reports that it could not repair files, restart Windows and run the commands once more. If Windows has broader symptoms, use Windows recovery options or Microsoft support rather than placing a third-party DLL in a system folder.
Fix 6: Update related drivers only when the application needs them
Driver updates are not a normal fix for a missing application DLL. They become relevant when the failing program handles a camera, phone, disc drive, capture device, GPU, or other hardware and the error began after a device or Windows update.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as Display adapters, Cameras, Portable Devices, Sound, video and game controllers, and DVD/CD-ROM drives.
- Right-click the device connected to the media application.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Use the hardware manufacturer’s official support page when Windows cannot find a suitable driver. Avoid forcing a generic driver onto a device that was working before the ws_image.dll error.

Do not run:
regsvr32 ws_image.dll
just because the filename ends in .dll. Microsoft’s regsvr32 documentation describes registration for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer.

ws_image.dll is normally a private runtime library loaded by its parent application. It is not automatically a self-registering Windows component. regsvr32 may return an entry-point error and will not restore missing dependencies or repair an incomplete installation.
If the error appears after uninstalling the program

- Disable the entry associated with the removed Wondershare, Aimersoft, or Daniusoft application.
- Restart Windows.
- If the entry remains, reinstall the original application and use its official uninstaller.
- Check Task Manager > Startup apps for the same entry.
Do not delete random registry values or DLL files to suppress the message.
Do not download ws_image.dll separately
Random DLL download sites cannot prove that a file matches your installed product, Windows architecture, or dependent libraries. A downloaded copy may be malicious, damaged, incompatible, or simply unable to fix the incomplete application installation.
The safe sources are:
- The original installer for the affected Wondershare, Aimersoft, Daniusoft, or other parent application.
- The publisher’s official support and download pages.
- Microsoft’s official repair tools for Windows components.
- Your antivirus quarantine, but only after verifying the path, signature, and scan results.
When to escalate
Contact the application publisher if reinstalling fails. Provide:
- The exact error wording.
- The application name and version.
- Your Windows version.
- The full path shown for
ws_image.dll. - Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit, if documented.
- Antivirus Protection history results.
- The time the error occurred.
- Relevant installation or crash-log entries.
If the file exists in an unrelated directory, has an unexpected signature, or triggers a security warning, run a full Microsoft Defender scan and avoid launching the associated executable until the scan is complete.
FAQ
Is ws_image.dll a Windows file?
No. Available evidence associates it with third-party media software, most strongly Wondershare products. It should not normally be placed in a Windows system directory.
Which program installs ws_image.dll?
The filename alone is not conclusive. It has been associated with Wondershare UniConverter, older Wondershare DVD and media products, and some legacy Daniusoft or Aimersoft applications.
Can I download ws_image.dll by itself?
That is not recommended. Reinstall the parent application from its official installer so that the matching DLLs and dependencies are restored together.
Should I run SFC for this error?
Run SFC when Windows has broader corruption symptoms. SFC checks protected Windows files; it is not a direct installer for ws_image.dll.

Only when the parent application requires that runtime or the error identifies a missing Microsoft runtime. It is not a universal solution.
Why does the error say the module is missing when the file is present?
A dependency required by ws_image.dll may be missing, blocked, or the wrong architecture. Repairing the complete parent application is safer than replacing only this file.
Should I register ws_image.dll?
No, not by default. Private application libraries generally do not need regsvr32. Restore the application installation instead.
