If karaoke.dll is missing, corrupted, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall the Nero product that requested it rather than copying a replacement into System32.
The safest repair is to restore the complete Nero installation from Nero’s official installer. That restores matching application files and dependencies instead of mixing one DLL from an unknown source with the rest of an older installation.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Nero
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the most likely solution for a karaoke.dll error. Nero may request the file after an incomplete update, interrupted uninstall, damaged installation, or partial cleanup.
- Close Nero and any related Nero processes.
- Open Settings with Win+I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Nero.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the affected Nero product.
- Choose Uninstall if no repair option is available.
- Download the installer for the Nero edition you own from Nero’s official installer-download page.
- Run the installer.
- Choose Repair, Update, or Reinstall if the setup program offers that choice.
- Restart Windows.
- Start Nero again and repeat the task that produced the error.
Some Nero editions expose a repair option through Control Panel instead:

- Follow the setup wizard and restart the computer.
A successful repair places the DLL in Nero’s own installation directory, commonly under a path resembling:
C:Program Files (x86)NeroNero Platinum SuiteNero Burning ROM
The exact folder depends on the Nero edition and release. Do not expect the file to appear in C:WindowsSystem32.
If Nero still reports the same error, uninstall it and reinstall the matching product edition. Do not install a different Nero package merely because it is newer. Older Nero releases may not be supported by current installers.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
If Nero worked until a security scan or antivirus update, Windows Security may have removed or quarantined one of its files.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections made around the time Nero stopped working.
- Open a relevant detection and inspect its path, detection name, and publisher information.
Do not restore a file merely because its name is karaoke.dll. Restore it only when the path clearly belongs to your legitimate Nero installation and your security team or antivirus vendor has confirmed the detection is a false positive.
If the file is confirmed legitimate:
- Open the detection in Protection history.
- Choose Actions.
- Select Allow on device or Restore, if available.
- Reinstall or repair Nero immediately afterward.
- Restart Windows and test Nero.
Microsoft warns that Defender may detect a restored file again. If the detection is uncertain, leave the file quarantined and reinstall Nero from Nero’s official installer instead. A clean installer is safer than repeatedly restoring an unverified binary.
Fix 3: Perform a clean Nero removal
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use Nero’s official Nero FirstAidKit when ordinary uninstall and reinstall leave remnants, the setup program fails, or the same missing-file error returns immediately.

Before using it, back up Nero projects and any settings you need. Nero’s cleanup utility can remove Nero-related files and registry entries, and selected cleanup options may remove user data associated with Nero.
- Close all Nero applications.
- Download Nero FirstAidKit from Nero’s official support page.
- Run it as an administrator.
- Follow the cleanup wizard.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Install the exact Nero product and edition you own.
- Restart again and test the application.
This approach is preferable to manually deleting Nero folders or registry entries. Manual deletion can leave an inconsistent installation or remove files shared by another Nero component.
Fix 4: Check the file path and architecture
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Public metadata identifies commonly reported KARAOKE.DLL copies as 32-bit Win32 application files. A 32-bit Nero executable normally needs its matching 32-bit DLL in the Nero application directory, even when Windows itself is 64-bit.
To inspect the installed path:
- Press Win+S and search for Nero.
- Right-click the Nero shortcut and select Open file location.
- Right-click the shortcut again, choose Properties, and select Open File Location if necessary.
- Look in the folder containing the Nero executable.
A valid installation should have the DLL alongside the relevant Nero files or in a subfolder used by that release. Do not copy a random 64-bit file into System32, and do not copy a 32-bit file into a Windows directory to make the error disappear.
File size is not a reliable identity check because copies can differ between Nero releases and distributions. Check the full path, file provenance, digital signature where available, and the installer that supplied it.
To check a file’s signature:
- Right-click the DLL.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Review the signer and signature status.
An unsigned or differently located file is not automatically malware, but a copy found in a temporary folder, crack, activator, or unrelated application should not be trusted because the filename matches.
Fix 5: Reinstall or update Nero dependencies only when named
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Do not install Visual C++ packages, DirectX, or other runtimes merely because karaoke.dll is missing. The evidence identifies this file as a Nero application component, not a Microsoft runtime.

If the error names another missing file as well, record that filename. Reinstall Nero first. Install a Microsoft runtime only when Nero’s installer or the separate error specifically identifies that runtime.
If the message says that the application is not designed to run on Windows, the DLL may be damaged, incompatible, or the wrong architecture. Replace the complete Nero installation rather than replacing only karaoke.dll.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They normally do not restore an ordinary Nero application DLL, so use them when Windows itself is malfunctioning, several unrelated applications have damaged system files, or Nero’s installer fails broadly.
- Install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart.
- Right-click Start and select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or reinstall Nero again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Nero after restarting. If both commands report no integrity violations but karaoke.dll remains missing, return to the Nero repair steps.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed makes troubleshooting harder. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the condition behind recurring repair work; its free scan shows what it found, while repair is handled by the full version. Reinstalling Nero remains the definitive fix for a missing Nero-owned DLL.
Fix 7: Update drivers only when the error involves a device
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
A driver is not the normal cause of a missing karaoke.dll, but Nero may fail during disc detection or media access if a storage, chipset, or optical-drive problem is reported separately.
To check drivers safely:
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, Storage controllers, and IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, if present.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a recently broken device, open its Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver when that option is available. Do not uninstall a working device driver solely because Nero reports karaoke.dll.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers when manually checking many hardware entries is impractical; the free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. A driver update will not replace a missing Nero application file.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent system change
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use System Restore if the error began immediately after a cleanup utility, update, software installation, or security event and a suitable restore point exists.

Why standalone DLL downloads are unsafe
Random DLL download sites can supply malware, an altered file, the wrong version, or a DLL from an unrelated product that happens to use the same filename. Public metadata also contains conflicting entries for karaoke.dll, including an unrelated 64-bit component.
A standalone replacement often fails because the actual problem is a damaged Nero installation or a missing companion dependency. It can also create a version mismatch if the rest of Nero belongs to a different release.
There is no verified official Microsoft standalone download for this file. The supported source is the Nero installer for the product you own. Never copy karaoke.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not the normal home for this Nero application DLL.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. karaoke.dll has not been verified as a COM component that requires registration.
Running a command such as this is therefore not a generic repair:

regsvr32 karaoke.dll
It may produce an error stating that the module was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. That result does not mean the DLL belongs in a system folder. Repair the Nero installation instead.
Likely causes and the correct response
| What happened before the error | Most likely explanation | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| Nero was updated or removed | Incomplete installation | Repair or reinstall the matching Nero product |
| Antivirus reported a threat | Quarantine or deletion | Inspect Protection History, then reinstall if uncertain |
| A cleanup tool was used | Nero files or registry entries were removed | Use Nero FirstAidKit and perform a clean reinstall |
| The file was copied from elsewhere | Wrong version or architecture | Remove it and reinstall Nero from its official installer |
| Many Windows programs fail | Broader system corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| A device also stopped working | Separate driver or hardware issue | Check Device Manager and the device driver |
| The file is in a temporary or unrelated folder | Possible counterfeit software or malware | Do not run it; scan the system and reinstall legitimate Nero |
If Nero still will not start
Record these details before contacting Nero support or continuing diagnosis:
- The exact error wording
- The Nero edition and version
- The executable that displays the message
- The full path where Nero expects the DLL
- Any antivirus detection name
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Every additional DLL named in the error
- Whether the failure began after an update, cleanup, restore, or quarantine event
If reinstalling Nero immediately loses the file again, check antivirus Protection History first. If no security event appears, verify that the installer matches the purchased edition, that the installation account has administrator rights, and that another Windows account does not show the same failure.
FAQ
Is karaoke.dll a Windows system file?
No evidence identifies it as a Microsoft Windows component. It is associated with Nero Burning ROM and belongs in the Nero installation directory.
Which program installs it?
Public file associations identify it with Nero Burning ROM and related Nero installations. The exact presence of the file can vary by Nero edition and release.
Is karaoke.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Commonly reported copies are 32-bit Win32 files. Match the DLL to the Nero executable and release rather than choosing a file based only on its name.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesShould I download it separately?
Generally no. Use Nero’s official installer or repair process so the DLL and its companion files come from the same release.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Usually no. It has not been established as a COM DLL requiring registration, and regsvr32 is not a general missing-DLL repair command.
Should I run SFC for this error?
Run SFC when Windows has broader corruption or several unrelated system files are failing. SFC normally will not restore a missing Nero application file.
What if the message names another DLL too?
Write down every named dependency and repair Nero first. The first DLL Windows reports is not always the only damaged or missing file.
