instbasicui.dll is an Autodesk installer interface DLL, not a Windows system file. If instbasicui.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair the Autodesk product that needs it rather than copying a replacement into a Windows folder.
The file is associated with older MSI-based Autodesk products, including AutoCAD 2007 and DWG TrueView 2010. It may appear under a path such as:
C:WindowsInstaller{product-code}
That location is part of the Windows Installer cache. It does not mean the file belongs to Windows.
What version of instbasicui.dll is this?
| Item | What the evidence shows |
|---|---|
| File | instbasicui.dll |
| Role | Autodesk MSI installer user-interface module |
| Common location | An Autodesk product-code folder beneath C:WindowsInstaller |
| Observed build | 32-bit, version 1.0.0.1, approximately 0.24 MB |
| Universal specification | None confirmed; different Autodesk installer builds can differ |
| Windows component | No |
regsvr32 component |
Normally no |
The observed version and size are not a guarantee for every copy. The correct file is the one supplied with the matching Autodesk product and installer build.

First identify the Autodesk product
Do not begin by searching for the DLL filename alone. Find the product that is being installed, repaired, removed, or automatically repaired.
Check Programs and Features
- Press
Windowskey. - Type Control Panel and open it.
- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Look for AutoCAD, DWG TrueView, or another older Autodesk product.
- Note the exact product name and version.
Select the entry and choose Uninstall/Change. If the Autodesk maintenance window offers Repair or Reinstall, you have found the product responsible for the error.
Check the installer window
If the error appears during setup, record:
- The Autodesk product name
- The product version
- Whether the action is Install, Repair, Reinstall, or Uninstall
- Any error number, especially 1308 or 1311
- The full path shown for
instbasicui.dll
A path beneath C:WindowsInstaller{long-product-code} strongly indicates that Windows Installer is servicing an installed Autodesk product.
Check a setup log
If an Autodesk setup log is available, search it for:

Source file not found
The product code can identify the installation. For example, AutoCAD 2007 has been associated with:
{5783F2D7-5001-0409-0002-0060B0CE6BBA}
Do not use that code unless AutoCAD 2007 is actually the installed product.
Fix 1: Repair the Autodesk product from its original source
This is the safest first repair when the product is still listed in Windows.
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Right-click the Autodesk product.
- Choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Repair if available.
- When Windows asks for source files, provide the original Autodesk CD, mounted installation image, network deployment folder, or complete installer package.
- Allow the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Repeat the original install, repair, or uninstall operation.
Repair restores missing product files. Reinstall replaces the installed files from the original source.
Rank #2
If Repair is not available, choose Reinstall. Do not cancel when the installer asks for the source location. That prompt usually means the cached MSI files are incomplete or the original installation media is unavailable.
What success looks like
The Autodesk maintenance operation completes without requesting instbasicui.dll, or the original Autodesk program starts and its uninstall or repair process works normally.
If the same file is requested again, the source media is probably incomplete, damaged, or for a different product build.
Fix 2: Restore the complete installer media
A missing DLL error can actually be an MSI source-file error. These are different problems.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA normal application loader message may say:
The program can't start because instbasicui.dll is missing from your computer.
An Autodesk installer commonly reports:
Source file not found.
Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.
The second message means Windows Installer cannot access a required file from the CD, network deployment, download package, or cached installation source. It does not necessarily mean that a running application needs the DLL in its program folder.
Use the complete installation source that matches the product:
- Insert the original Autodesk installation disc, if available.
- If the installer was copied to a network location, reconnect to that location.
- If the package was downloaded in multiple parts, place every part in the location expected by the setup program.
- Start the main Autodesk setup file as administrator.
- Choose Repair, Reinstall, or the required maintenance action.
- Browse to the source location when prompted.
- Retry the operation.
Do not mix files from AutoCAD, DWG TrueView, or another Autodesk product. A DLL with the same filename from a different installer build may not match the MSI package.
Fix 3: Repair the Windows Installer registration
This is an advanced step for an administrator who has confirmed the product code and has the original source available.
Rank #3
Microsoft Installer supports repair through msiexec. For the AutoCAD 2007 product code documented above, the command is:
msiexec /fa {5783F2D7-5001-0409-0002-0060B0CE6BBA}
Use it only if:
- AutoCAD 2007 is installed
- That exact product code belongs to the installation
- The original installation source is available
- You are comfortable working with Windows Installer
To run it:
- Press
Windowskey. - Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Enter the command.
- Provide the original Autodesk source when requested.
- Restart Windows and test the Autodesk maintenance operation.
The /fa option reinstalls all files and may require the original MSI source. If the command fails because the product code is wrong or the source is missing, stop and return to product identification rather than trying random product codes.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus quarantine is possible, but do not assume it is the cause without an actual detection event.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
instbasicui.dll. - Check the file path and detection details.
- If the file came from genuine Autodesk media and the alert is confirmed as a false positive, follow Windows Security’s restore option.
- Run a fresh repair from the original Autodesk installer afterward.
Microsoft warns that restoring a real threat can expose the computer. Reinstalling from clean, trusted Autodesk media is safer than restoring an unknown DLL from quarantine.

Fix 5: Repair wider Windows component corruption
instbasicui.dll is not a protected Windows system file, so System File Checker normally will not restore it. Use these commands only when other Windows components also show errors, Windows Installer is broadly failing, or Windows reports damaged system files.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Press
Windowskey. - Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the Autodesk repair using the original source.
DISM and SFC repair Windows components. They do not guarantee restoration of a third-party Autodesk installer DLL.
If you repeatedly run these commands without knowing which component changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying Windows issues and show what needs attention; its repair features require the full version, while reinstalling the Autodesk product remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 6: Check compatibility on Windows 10 or Windows 11
Older Autodesk products may fail for reasons beyond a missing installer file. AutoCAD 2007, for instance, is not supported on Windows 10. Restoring its installer DLL does not make the application fully compatible with a newer Windows release.
If repair succeeds but the product still will not run:
- Confirm the exact Autodesk version.
- Check whether that version supports your Windows release.
- Try the product’s compatibility troubleshooting option:
- Right-click the program shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an appropriate older Windows version.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Test the program.
- If it remains unreliable, use a supported Autodesk release or an appropriately isolated older Windows environment.
Compatibility mode is not a substitute for supported software, and it will not repair missing MSI source files.
Drivers and common runtimes are usually not the fix
Do not start with a graphics-driver reinstall, DirectX installation, .NET repair, or Visual C++ Redistributable package merely because the filename ends in .dll. The available evidence points to an Autodesk installer module, not a graphics, DirectX, .NET, or Microsoft runtime component.
A runtime repair becomes more relevant when the error names files such as:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
msvcp*.dll
vcruntime*.dll
api-ms-win-*.dll
A driver repair is relevant only if separate graphics-driver errors are present:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Properties and check Device status.
- Use Update driver or uninstall and reinstall the driver from the computer or GPU manufacturer.
If you are manually hunting through several driver versions, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show the required updates; driver installation is handled by the full version, and it is not a replacement for repairing the Autodesk installer.

Do not download a replacement DLL
Random DLL download sites may provide:
- The wrong Autodesk build
- The wrong architecture
- A damaged or modified file
- A file containing malware
- A DLL without its companion MSI resources
They also do not restore the Windows Installer database or the original installation source. Never copy instbasicui.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Do not place it in an arbitrary application folder either. The safe sources are the original Autodesk media, a complete Autodesk installer, or a verified network deployment belonging to the product.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not use regsvr32
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. instbasicui.dll is loaded by the Autodesk installer for interface functionality, not normally registered as a COM or ActiveX component.
Running:
regsvr32 instbasicui.dll
is likely to produce a missing DllRegisterServer error and will not repair the MSI package.

Do not use Windows Features for this file
Turning on .NET Framework, Media Features, or another Windows Feature is not a reasoned first fix for instbasicui.dll. Use Windows Features only when the error specifically identifies a missing Windows feature or framework dependency.
If the error still persists
Record these details before attempting another repair:

Then retry with clean, complete official Autodesk media. If the installation is badly damaged and the product can no longer be repaired, use Autodesk’s supported clean-uninstall procedure and reinstall from the matching source.
System Restore is appropriate only when the failure began immediately after a known cleanup, update, or installation event and a suitable restore point exists.
FAQ
Is instbasicui.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Autodesk installer packages and should not be treated as a Windows system DLL.
Does it belong to AutoCAD?
It can. Public evidence connects it with older AutoCAD-family products, including AutoCAD 2007, and with DWG TrueView 2010. Autodesk products do not all use identical installer files, so identify the exact product before repairing it.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Is version 1.0.0.1 universal?
No. 1.0.0.1 is an observed build, not a guaranteed version for every Autodesk installer. Match the file to the complete product package.
Should I install Visual C++ or DirectX?
Not as the first step. Those packages are generally unrelated to this filename unless the error also identifies a missing runtime or graphics dependency.
Why does the error appear during uninstall?
Windows Installer may need cached files or the original MSI source while removing or repairing an older Autodesk product. Supply the original source and use the product’s Repair, Reinstall, or maintenance option.
Can SFC restore the file?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while instbasicui.dll belongs to a third-party Autodesk installer. Restore it through the matching Autodesk installation source.
