log2.dll is an application DLL most strongly associated with Baidu PC Faster’s PC Faster Log2 Library. It is not a Windows system file, so the safest fix is to identify the program requesting log2.dll and repair or remove that program rather than copying the DLL into a Windows folder.
PC Faster is legacy software. If you still trust and need the application, reinstall it from its original installer or an official publisher source. If you no longer use it, uninstalling the obsolete program is usually safer than restoring a missing file.
Fix log2.dll errors in order
1. Identify the application that is requesting log2.dll
Time needed: 5 minutes
Do not begin by downloading log2.dll. First determine which executable cannot start.
- Read the error dialog carefully and note the application name.
- Right-click the program’s shortcut and select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, check Target and note the executable path.
- Select Open File Location if that option is available.
- Check whether the executable is a PC Faster component or belongs to another installed application.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for the application name, including PC Faster, and check its installation entry.
The requesting program’s folder is important. A legitimate application-private DLL normally sits beside the application or inside one of its own subfolders. There is no reliable evidence that log2.dll belongs in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

If the error appears during startup but does not name the program, use Task Manager:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Open Startup apps.
- Disable the suspicious or obsolete entry temporarily.
- Restart Windows.
- If the error disappears, return to the startup entry and inspect its file location.
2. Repair or reinstall the owning application
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
This is the most likely solution when log2.dll was removed during an incomplete installation, update, or uninstall.
Try the Windows repair option
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the program that produced the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if present.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If Windows does not offer Repair, or the repair does not restore the program:
- Save any data associated with the application.
- Return to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the application and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it using the original installer or a current official installer from the publisher.
- Start the program from its normal shortcut.
Do not install a standalone log2.dll from a random DLL download website. The file may contain malware, may have the wrong architecture or build, and may not match the other files installed by the application. A replacement can also hide a damaged installation or a missing dependency.
If the original PC Faster installer is no longer available or you no longer trust the software, remove it instead of searching for a replacement DLL. After uninstalling, restart Windows and check whether the error has gone. If the error remains, inspect the startup entries and scheduled tasks associated with the old program.
A third-party file inventory reports a PC Faster association and metadata for a 32-bit DLL, but those details are identification clues rather than an official Baidu release guarantee. Do not use a reported hash, size, or version as permission to download an unverified copy.

3. Check Microsoft Defender or another antivirus quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Security software may have quarantined or deleted the file. This can happen after a detection, during cleanup, or when an old application is classified as unwanted.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving the failing application or
log2.dll. - Expand an entry to see its detection name, path, and action.
- If the file was detected, leave it quarantined unless you can verify the application, original location, and source.
Microsoft warns that restoring a detected file can expose the computer if the file is malicious. If the program is legitimate and the file was obtained from its original installer, reinstalling the application is safer than restoring a quarantined DLL manually.

After checking Protection History, run Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Full scan. If the application is obsolete or unfamiliar, uninstall it and remove any remaining startup entry rather than creating an antivirus exclusion.
4. Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
A 32-bit application can require 32-bit DLLs even when it runs on 64-bit Windows. Installing a similarly named 64-bit file will not satisfy that requirement.
To check the application architecture:
- Start the application, if possible.
- Open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Right-click the column headings and choose Select columns.
- Enable Platform, if available.
- Check whether the process is 32-bit or 64-bit.
You can also inspect the program’s installation folder. Legacy applications are often installed under C:Program Files (x86), although the folder alone is not conclusive.
Use the matching files supplied by the application’s own installer. Do not move a DLL between System32, SysWOW64, another computer, or another application directory. Mixing architectures or builds can produce errors such as “not designed to run on Windows” or “the specified module could not be found.”

5. Check whether another dependency is actually missing
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Windows may name log2.dll even when the real failure is a dependency loaded by that DLL. This is common after a partial uninstall or when an old application expects a runtime that is no longer installed.
Check the following:
- Confirm that
log2.dll, if present, is in the original application directory. - Right-click it and select Properties.
- Review the Digital Signatures tab, if present.
- Check the file’s location and signer rather than trusting the filename alone.
- Open Event Viewer by searching for it in Start.
- Go to Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time the application failed.
- Note any named module, application path, or runtime mentioned in the event.
Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable only when the application’s installer or documentation identifies it as a prerequisite. A 32-bit application may need the x86 package even on 64-bit Windows. There is no verified evidence that log2.dll itself is a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file.
Do not install DirectX, .NET, or a driver solely because the error mentions log2.dll. Use those repairs only when the application specifically requires them.
6. Use System Restore if the failure followed a recent change
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after installing, updating, or removing software or a driver.
- Press Win+R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the programs and drivers that will be changed.
- Select Close, then Next.
- Confirm the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore normally does not change personal files, but it can roll back installed programs, drivers, and settings. Back up important data first. If the restore does not resolve the error, reinstall or remove the owning application instead of repeatedly restoring unrelated points.
7. Repair broader Windows component corruption
Time needed: 15–45 minutes
Use DISM and SFC when several Windows programs are malfunctioning, Windows update components are damaged, or system files show other errors. These commands do not normally restore a third-party PC Faster DLL.

- Open Start and search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test. If it reports that it could not repair some files, review the result and focus again on the application installation. SFC is not a substitute for reinstalling an application-private DLL.

Driver installation is not a file-specific fix for log2.dll, but a recent driver change can trigger application failures or expose broader system problems.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category named in the application’s documentation or Event Viewer.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the provider, date, and version.
- Use Update Driver only when a compatible update is available.
- If the problem began immediately after an update, choose Roll Back Driver, if available.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not replace unrelated drivers just because log2.dll is missing. Why regsvr32 usually does not fix log2.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide the registration entry points expected by COM or ActiveX components. An application-private runtime or library DLL is normally loaded directly by its program.
Do not use this as a default repair:
regsvr32 log2.dll
If it reports that an entry point is missing, that does not prove the file is corrupt. It may simply mean that log2.dll is not a self-registering component. Use the application’s installer instead.

The wording “not designed to run on Windows” indicates an invalid, incompatible, or corrupted module, but it does not identify which cause applies. The message alone is not evidence that Windows itself supplied or deleted the file.

Is log2.dll a Windows file?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a Windows system component. It is associated with Baidu PC Faster’s Log2 Library and should be treated as an application file.

Can I copy log2.dll into System32 or SysWOW64?
No. Those folders are not universal DLL storage locations. Copying a third-party DLL there can create architecture conflicts, affect unrelated programs, and conceal the damaged application installation.
Did uninstalling PC Faster cause the error?
It can. An incomplete uninstall may leave a shortcut, startup entry, scheduled task, or related component that still requests log2.dll. Remove the leftover program entry or reinstall and cleanly uninstall the application.

Only when the file’s source, path, and authenticity are clear. For an old or unwanted application, reinstalling it or removing it is safer than restoring an unverified file.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable fix log2.dll?
Only if the application identifies that runtime as a prerequisite or another dependency is missing. log2.dll is not itself verified as a Microsoft runtime file.
What if reinstalling the application does not work?
Check the full executable path, Event Viewer, antivirus actions, application architecture, and dependent modules. If the original software is obsolete or unavailable, uninstall it and remove its startup entries rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
