What cnbjop86.dll means

cnbjop86.dll is a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver component. It is normally installed with Canon printer software, including a model-specific printer driver or MP Drivers package.
It is not a Windows system DLL, Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET file. The safest fix is not to download the DLL separately. Identify the Canon printer model, remove its damaged driver package, restart Windows, and install the current driver from Canon’s official Software and Drivers page.
Public file metadata reports a 32-bit file published by CANON INC. Some third-party metadata also reports version, size, and copyright details, but those values are not a universal specification for every Canon installation. The exact Canon printer models that use this filename are not publicly confirmed.
Error messages may include:
- “The program can’t start because cnbjop86.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “cnbjop86.dll was not found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because cnbjop86.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting cnbjop86.dll.”
The executable showing the message may be a Canon printer utility, scanner component, startup entry, or an old shortcut left behind after an incomplete uninstall.

Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Canon printer driver
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
This is the most likely solution because it restores the DLL, its dependencies, and the installation paths expected by Canon software.
1. Identify the printer model
Check the label on the printer, its original documentation, or the printer name in Windows.
Do not install a driver for a similar model. Canon packages can differ between closely related printers, and the correct package may be labelled:
- MP Drivers
- Canon Printer Driver
- Canon MP Drivers
- IJ Printer Driver
- Full Driver & Software Package
2. Remove the existing Canon software
In Windows 11:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Canon, the printer model, or MP Drivers.
- Select the relevant Canon printer driver or utility.
- Choose Uninstall, then follow the prompts.
In Windows 10:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Apps & features.
- Search for the Canon model or MP Drivers.
- Select the entry and choose Uninstall.
On older Windows installations, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select the Canon printer driver, and choose Uninstall.
Remove remaining Canon printer software related to the same model, but avoid uninstalling software for another Canon device that is still in use.
3. Restart Windows
Choose Start > Power > Restart. Do not use only Shut down. A restart reloads driver services and clears pending installer changes.
4. Download the correct package
Open Canon’s official Software and Drivers page, enter the exact printer model, and select Windows 10 or Windows 11 as appropriate. Check whether Canon offers a package for your Windows edition and system architecture.
Download the complete driver package rather than searching for cnbjop86.dll alone.

5. Install it correctly
- Close Canon utilities and other open programs.
- Run the downloaded Canon installer.
- Follow the setup prompts.
- Connect the printer or select the network printer only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows if the installer asks you to do so.
- Print a test page from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
The repair worked if the Canon application opens without the DLL message and Windows can send a print job to the correct printer. If the installer refuses to run, apply pending Windows Updates, restart, uninstall the old Canon package again, and retry.
Manually hunting through Canon packages and determining which driver is stale can take longer than expected. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated or damaged drivers, while its full version performs the driver installation; it is optional, and the exact Canon package remains the definitive source for this printer.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
If the printer worked until a security scan or cleanup event, Windows Security may have quarantined the DLL.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections involving Canon software or
cnbjop86.dll. - Expand a detection to view its path, publisher, and action.
Do not restore the file merely because its name looks familiar. A legitimate filename can be copied by malware.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If the detected file was inside a Canon installation directory and the Canon package came from the official Canon website, reinstall the complete driver instead of restoring the isolated DLL. If a freshly downloaded Canon installer is detected, verify its digital signature and contact Canon or your antivirus vendor before allowing it.
If the file is located in an unrelated application directory, a temporary folder, or an unexpected system location, leave it quarantined and perform a full Windows Security scan.
Fix 3: Remove a stale Canon startup entry or shortcut
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Sometimes the printer driver was removed, but a Canon utility still starts with Windows and looks for the deleted DLL.
- Open Settings > Apps > Startup.
- Turn off an obsolete Canon utility associated with the removed printer.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall remaining Canon printer software that belongs to the old installation.
- Restart Windows.
Also check the shortcut that triggers the error. Right-click it, select Properties, and inspect Target. If it points to an old Canon utility or an executable whose folder no longer exists, remove the shortcut rather than copying a DLL into that folder.
If the printer still works through Windows but only an old Canon scanning or monitoring utility fails, remove that obsolete utility and install only the software required for the identified printer.

Fix 4: Check the driver through Device Manager
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Device Manager can reveal a failed or partially installed printer driver, although it may not expose every Canon utility that uses the DLL.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and, if present, Imaging devices.
- Look for the Canon printer or an entry with a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Read the status on the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Choose Uninstall Device if the Canon driver is clearly damaged.
- If offered, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current model-specific Canon package.
If Device Manager shows Microsoft IPP Class Driver or another generic driver, printing may still work, but Canon utilities such as scanning or status monitoring may not. Install the Canon package if those functions are needed.
Do not use Update driver > Search automatically as the only repair. Windows may install a generic print driver that does not restore Canon’s complete utility and scanner components.

The reported metadata for cnbjop86.dll describes a 32-bit file. A 64-bit Windows installation can run 32-bit Canon software, but the complete Canon package must support the printer and Windows version. Do not replace it with a random 64-bit DLL.
Fix 5: Check Windows Features only for Windows printing components
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Windows Features is not a source for cnbjop86.dll, but a disabled printing component can create separate printer failures.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review Print and Document Services.
- Leave required printing components enabled unless you have a specific reason to change them.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
Do not expect this procedure to recreate the Canon DLL. If the error specifically names cnbjop86.dll, reinstalling the Canon driver remains the relevant repair.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use these commands when Windows has broader integrity problems, such as multiple built-in applications failing, damaged system files, or repeated component errors. They do not normally download or recreate a missing third-party Canon DLL.
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Canon application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC because DISM can repair the Windows component store used by SFC.

If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test the printer. If both commands complete without fixing the Canon error, return to the Canon driver reinstall. Repeating system repair commands will not substitute for the missing vendor package.
When manually interpreting DISM and SFC results becomes difficult, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows problems, while its full version performs repairs; it is optional and does not replace reinstalling the Canon driver.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a driver update, software installation, or Windows change.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point created before the error began.
- Choose Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next > Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore affects system files, settings, and installed programs, but it does not normally remove ordinary personal files. After restoration, avoid reinstalling the same failed Canon package until you have confirmed which driver version supports the printer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not register or copy the DLL manually
regsvr32 is not a general DLL installation command. It is intended for self-registering OLE and ActiveX components. A normal Canon printer-driver support DLL may not export DllRegisterServer.
Running a command such as this is therefore not a reliable repair:
regsvr32 cnbjop86.dll
It may produce “DllRegisterServer was not found” or “not self-registerable.” Do not copy the file into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- An unrelated application folder
The Canon installer determines the correct location and loads related dependencies. Manual copying can create a version mismatch, leave other files missing, and make malware investigation harder.
Likely causes of the error
| What changed | Likely explanation | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| A Canon update failed | Incomplete driver installation | Uninstall, restart, reinstall the model-specific package |
| Canon software was removed | A stale utility still expects the DLL | Remove remaining Canon software and shortcuts |
| Antivirus acted first | The file was quarantined | Inspect Protection History and reinstall from Canon |
| Only an old utility fails | The printer driver may be gone but the utility remains | Remove the obsolete utility |
| A generic Windows driver is installed | Canon-specific components are missing | Install Canon’s complete package |
| A game or unrelated program reports it | Suspicious filename reuse or a damaged application | Inspect the executable path and digital signature |
| An old printer has no current package | Canon may no longer support that Windows version | Check model-specific support before trying compatibility mode |
How to tell whether a copy is genuine
A genuine copy should be associated with Canon printer software installed for your specific model. Check the file’s Properties, including its location, publisher information, and digital signature when available.

A filename alone proves nothing. Treat the file as suspicious if it appears in a random download folder, a game directory, a temporary location, or an unrelated application folder. Scan it with Windows Security and identify the executable that is requesting it.
Do not download cnbjop86.dll from random DLL websites. The file may contain malware, belong to the wrong Canon package, use the wrong architecture, or fail because other driver dependencies are also missing. The safe source is the official Canon support page for the exact printer model.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFAQ
Is cnbjop86.dll part of Windows?
No evidence supports that. It is associated with the Canon Inkjet Printer Driver, not with Windows itself.
Which Canon printer installed it?
The exact models that use this filename are not publicly verified. Identify the printer model from the device label and use that model on Canon’s driver page.
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Available public metadata reports a 32-bit version. That does not mean every copy has identical metadata, and it does not justify downloading a replacement DLL. Use the complete driver package matched to Windows and the printer.
Should I download the DLL by itself?
No. Reinstall the Canon driver package. This restores the DLL with the correct dependencies and paths.
Can SFC repair it?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows components, while cnbjop86.dll is a third-party Canon file. Use SFC and DISM only when broader Windows corruption is also present.
Does regsvr32 fix it?
Usually not. A printer-driver support DLL is not automatically a self-registering component. Canon’s installer should handle registration and placement.
What if Canon no longer lists my printer?
Check the exact model and Windows support status. If no compatible package is available, do not substitute a DLL from an unaffiliated site. The printer may require a supported older Windows environment or a generic Windows print driver with reduced Canon functionality.
