lspzipx.dll is a third-party Win32 ZIP compression library, not a normal Windows system file. When Windows reports that lspzipx.dll is missing, the safest fix is to identify the application requesting it and repair or reinstall that application from its original publisher.
Do not download a random copy and place it in System32. That can introduce the wrong version, wrong architecture, malware, or a missing dependency while leaving the damaged application installation untouched.

lspzipx.dll: quick identification
| Item | What is known |
|---|---|
| File | lspzipx.dll |
| Reported description | Zip Compression Library (Win32) |
| Associated developer | Lindersoft |
| Related software | SetupBuilder and applications whose installers bundled Lindersoft compression components |
| Windows component | No reliable evidence indicates that it is part of Windows |
| Architecture | Evidence identifies it as a 32-bit library |
| Normal location | The affected application’s installation directory |
| Correct repair | Repair or reinstall the application that requested it |
Lindersoft’s SetupBuilder product includes ZIP and unzip functionality. Historical SetupBuilder file inventories include LSPZIPX.DLL, and the same library has appeared in third-party applications built with SetupBuilder. The file is therefore not necessarily missing from SetupBuilder itself. It may belong to an older utility, installer, accounting application, game, or other program that used Lindersoft’s components.
First, identify the program that needs the DLL
The error dialog often names the executable or appears immediately after you launch a particular application. That program is the repair target.

Check the error dialog
Look for wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because lspzipx.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because lspzipx.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading lspzipx.dll.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “lspzipx.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
If the dialog names an executable, note its full path. For example, a path under C:Program Files, C:Program Files (x86), a game library, or an old installer directory usually identifies the owning application.
Check the shortcut
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read the Target field.
- Note the folder containing the executable.
- Open that folder and check the application name, publisher, or nearby uninstall information.
Do not delete the DLL or copy a replacement into the folder yet. First confirm which program owns the directory.
Check installed applications
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for the application matching the executable or installation folder.
- Open its menu and look for Modify, Repair, or Advanced options.
If the error appears at every boot and no window identifies the program, check Task Manager:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Disable only an entry you recognize as the old or broken application.
- Restart Windows and see whether the message stops.
You can also inspect Task Scheduler for tasks launching the same executable. Do not remove an unknown task solely because it references a DLL. Confirm the executable’s publisher and location first.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix 1: repair or reinstall the affected application
This is the primary fix for lspzipx.dll.
Use the application’s repair option
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Locate the application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, Modify, or Repair, depending on what the publisher provides.
- Complete the repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the application again.
A successful repair restores the application’s own files and any matching compression-library dependencies. If the application starts normally, no Windows DLL repair is needed.
Reinstall from the original publisher
If repair is unavailable or fails:
- Back up the application’s documents, save files, profiles, or license information.
- Uninstall the affected application from Settings > Apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Download a current compatible installer from the application’s original publisher or use the original installation media.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Install to the normal application directory.
- Start the program and test the operation that previously failed.
If the program is discontinued, use the publisher’s official support channel or the original installer and media. Older SetupBuilder releases are end-of-life, so the current SetupBuilder product page should not be treated as a guaranteed source for an old standalone runtime file.
If reinstalling fails, uninstall again, restart, and remove only the application’s remaining installation directory if the publisher permits it. Then install a freshly downloaded official package. Do not remove shared Windows folders or manually delete unrelated DLLs.
Repair a game through its launcher
If the affected program is a game, do not begin by searching for the DLL. Use the launcher’s file-repair feature:
- Open the game launcher.
- Open the game’s properties or management menu.
- Select Verify, Verify integrity, Repair, or Scan and repair.
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Allow the launcher to redownload damaged files.
- Restart the launcher and test the game.
The exact label varies by launcher. This process restores the game’s complete installation rather than forcing one DLL into a directory.
Fix 2: check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine a legitimate application file. It may also block a damaged or modified copy.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
lspzipx.dllor the affected application. - Expand the event and check the file path, detection name, and publisher information.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The file is inside the trusted application’s installation directory.
- The application came from its original publisher.
- The publisher confirms that the file is legitimate.
- A fresh scan of the installer does not show a threat.
If the file was found in a temporary folder, an unexpected download directory, or an unknown application directory, leave it quarantined. Reinstall the application from a clean official package instead.
After restoring or reinstalling, update the application and run a full Windows Security scan. If quarantine happens again, contact the application publisher before adding an exclusion.
Fix 3: account for 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
lspzipx.dll is identified as a Win32, or 32-bit, library. A 32-bit application can use a 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows. That is normal.
A 32-bit program usually loads its private DLLs from its own application directory. C:WindowsSystem32 is not a universal destination for every DLL. On 64-bit Windows, the name is also misleading: System32 contains native 64-bit system components, while SysWOW64 contains many 32-bit Windows components. Neither directory is the correct general-purpose home for lspzipx.dll.
If you see an architecture error such as “not designed to run on Windows,” the installed file may be:
- From a different release of the application.
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit build.
- Corrupted.
- Missing one of its own dependencies.
- Replaced by an untrusted copy.
Remove the incorrect application installation and reinstall the matching package. Do not substitute a DLL copied from another computer.

Fix 4: distinguish a missing DLL from a missing dependency
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that lspzipx.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the file but failed to load another library that it requires.
Use this order:
- Confirm that
lspzipx.dllexists in the affected application’s directory. - Repair or reinstall the application.
- Check the application publisher’s requirements for supported Windows versions and runtimes.
- If the publisher identifies a required runtime, install the matching package from Microsoft or the publisher.
- Test the application again.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET at random. lspzipx.dll is not a Microsoft runtime filename. Install or repair a Visual C++ package only when the application documentation or a later error specifically identifies it. Match the package architecture to the application, commonly x86 for older 32-bit software.

optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Enable only the Windows feature required by the application’s documentation.
- Select OK and restart if prompted.
Enabling unrelated legacy features is unlikely to recreate lspzipx.dll.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFix 5: repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
DISM and SFC repair Windows component corruption. They do not normally recreate a third-party Lindersoft DLL.
Use them when Windows shows broader problems, such as multiple built-in tools failing, damaged system components, or failed Windows repair operations.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the operation to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Windows and the application. If it reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the application repair rather than trying to download lspzipx.dll.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slower. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and show what it finds, while its repair functions require the full version; reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix for this file.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Graphics drivers, chipset drivers, and Windows Update are not established direct causes of a missing lspzipx.dll. Update them only if the same application also reports a device, graphics, crash, or compatibility problem.
For a manual driver check:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category for the affected device.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if Windows installs an update.
For graphics or chipset hardware, prefer the computer or hardware manufacturer’s official driver package. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify the device versions, while installing drivers through the full version is optional; this does not replace repairing the application that owns lspzipx.dll.
What not to do
Do not download a random DLL
Standalone DLL download repositories cannot establish that a file matches your application, architecture, dependencies, or publisher. A downloaded copy may contain malware, be corrupted, expose different exports, or simply fail with the same loader error.
Use the application publisher’s installer, repair option, launcher, support channel, or original media instead.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders are not general DLL storage. Copying the file there can hide the real application problem and cause other programs to load an incompatible version.
Do not run regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly COM or ActiveX components. There is no reliable public evidence that lspzipx.dll is such a component.
A missing application DLL is normally a file-location, installation, architecture, or dependency issue. Run regsvr32 lspzipx.dll only if the application publisher specifically instructs you to do so.
If the problem started after a recent change
System Restore is reasonable when the error began immediately after a known update, cleanup, or software installation and a restore point predates that change.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Press
Win+R. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the failure.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore.
System Restore is not a replacement for reinstalling the affected application. If the application is obsolete, obtain a clean original installer or contact its publisher.
FAQ
Is lspzipx.dll part of Windows?
No reliable evidence supports that. It is associated with Lindersoft’s ZIP compression components and with applications that bundled those components.
Which program uses lspzipx.dll?
SetupBuilder installations have included it, and third-party applications built with SetupBuilder may include it. There is no complete public list, so identify the executable and installation directory shown by your error.
Will installing Visual C++ fix it?
Not normally. Install Visual C++ only when the application documentation or a subsequent dependency error identifies it.
Can a 32-bit DLL work on 64-bit Windows?
Yes, when it belongs to a 32-bit application and is placed in that application’s own directory. Do not replace it with a 64-bit DLL.
What if the file exists but still will not load?
Repair the parent application first. The file may be corrupted, incompatible, or dependent on another missing library. “The specified module could not be found” can refer to that dependency.
What if the error appears during startup?
Find the executable through Task Manager > Startup apps, Task Scheduler, the shortcut properties, or the error dialog. Repair or uninstall the obsolete parent application rather than placing the DLL in a Windows folder.
