cache.dll is a MOBILedit Cache Module file supplied with COMPELSON software, not a Windows component. If MOBILedit reports that cache.dll is missing or cannot load, repair or reinstall MOBILedit from COMPELSON rather than downloading a loose DLL into System32.
What this file actually does
cache.dll is an application DLL associated with MOBILedit. from COMPELSON Labs. Its job is to provide cache-related functionality to the MOBILedit program that installed it. It is not part of Windows, Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or a general-purpose runtime package.
That distinction determines the repair. Windows does not normally restore this file through Windows Update, System File Checker, or a Visual C++ installer. The correct copy normally belongs in the MOBILedit program directory, where the application can load the version it was built to use.
Public file metadata describes a documented copy as a 32-bit Win32/PE32 file. File catalogues also report version 8.6.0.20354 and a size of roughly 435 KB, but those details are not a current COMPELSON release manifest. Do not use them as a reason to replace the file with a similarly named download.

MOBILedit can run as a 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows. That is normal. It does not make a random 64-bit cache.dll compatible with the program.
Causes of cache.dll errors by symptom

The exact wording varies between Windows versions and MOBILedit releases. Common examples include “The program can’t start because cache.dll is missing,” “Error loading cache.dll,” and “The code execution cannot proceed because cache.dll was not found.”
Fix cache.dll by repairing MOBILedit
Start with the application that owns the file. This is the least disruptive fix and preserves the correct release, architecture, dependencies, and installation path.
Windows 11
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find MOBILedit in the list.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair if Windows provides that button.
- Launch MOBILedit again.
Repair normally replaces damaged application files without requiring you to search for individual DLLs. If the error disappears, do not copy another cache.dll into a Windows folder.
Windows 10
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Apps & features.
- Select MOBILedit.
- Choose Advanced options or the available Repair or Modify option.
- Complete the repair and restart MOBILedit.
Some desktop applications do not expose repair controls in Settings. In that case:
- Press Windows key, type Control Panel, and open it.
- Select Programs, then Programs and Features.
- Select MOBILedit.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
If MOBILedit opens afterward, the repair worked. If the same message returns, continue with a clean reinstall.

Reinstall the correct MOBILedit package
Use COMPELSON’s official MOBILedit download page and product portal. The current official listing identifies a MOBILedit Phone Manager for Windows 32bit, so do not assume that a 64-bit replacement is appropriate simply because your Windows installation is 64-bit.
Before removing MOBILedit, preserve any phone data, backups, activation information, or licensing details stored by the application.

- Download the installer again from COMPELSON’s official source.
- Wait for the download to finish completely.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- If setup offers Repair, try that first.
- If repair is unavailable, open Settings → Apps → Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings → Apps → Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Select MOBILedit and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows after the uninstall completes.
- Run the freshly downloaded installer as administrator.
- Complete setup and restart again if requested.
- Launch MOBILedit and test the operation that previously failed.
If setup reports that it cannot start, the installer itself may be corrupt, blocked by security software, or incompatible with the intended release. Download it again, confirm that you have administrator access, and avoid combining files from an older installation with a newer package.
For an older licensed MOBILedit installation, use COMPELSON’s previous-version portal rather than mixing cache.dll from one release with executable files from another. A file that has the right name can still have the wrong internal interfaces or dependencies.
Check Windows Security quarantine
A sudden failure after an update or antivirus scan makes quarantine worth checking, but it does not prove that antivirus caused the problem.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving MOBILedit or
cache.dll. - Expand the entry and inspect its path, detection details, and action.
- Restore the file only if you can verify that it came from the official MOBILedit installer or a trusted existing MOBILedit installation.
- Reinstall MOBILedit afterward if the file was removed or the installation is inconsistent.
Do not blindly choose Allow on device merely because MOBILedit will not start. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined threat can cause it to be detected again. If the path is unfamiliar, the file has no credible application context, or the installer was obtained from an untrusted source, leave it quarantined and reinstall from COMPELSON instead.

Do not download cache.dll into System32
Random DLL download sites sites are a poor fix for this error. The file may be malicious, built for a different MOBILedit release, the wrong architecture, or missing dependencies that cause the same error to return.
Do not copy cache.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- A global directory added to
PATH
Windows searches an unpackaged application’s own directory before system directories. That is why the correct vendor-supplied file should normally be restored to the MOBILedit installation directory by its installer. A stray copy in a system folder can be ignored, create conflicts, or increase DLL hijacking risk.
A controlled manual restore is reasonable only when you have a verified copy from the same MOBILedit release, such as a trusted vendor backup or a confirmed quarantine item. Even then, restoring the entire application through the official installer is safer than replacing one file by hand.
If cache.dll exists but still will not load
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may be unable to find a dependency required by cache.dll.

Check the following:
- Right-click the MOBILedit shortcut and choose Open file location.
- Confirm that
cache.dllis in the program directory expected by the MOBILedit executable. - Right-click the file, choose Properties, and review its path, size, and security information.
- Confirm that your account has permission to read and execute files in that folder.
- Check whether security software blocked another file in the same directory.
- Use a reputable dependency-analysis tool or provide the exact path and error to COMPELSON support.
Do not install Visual C++ or DirectX simply because a DLL error appeared. There is no verified evidence that cache.dll is itself a Microsoft redistributable component, and the missing item may be a private MOBILedit dependency. If a dependency analyzer identifies a specific Microsoft runtime, install that runtime only from Microsoft.
Repair broader Windows corruption with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair commands when Windows itself is unstable, several unrelated applications fail, or system components show corruption. They do not normally restore a missing third-party DLL in the MOBILedit folder.

- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test MOBILedit again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. A successful SFC result does not prove that MOBILedit is repaired, because Windows may have no ownership of cache.dll.
Repeating these commands without knowing what changed is not a substitute for reinstalling the owning application. Update or reinstall related drivers only when MOBILedit launches
If MOBILedit opens normally and only phone detection or USB communication fails, the problem is probably separate from cache.dll. COMPELSON documents separate phone-driver packages and Device Manager procedures.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Portable Devices, Android Device, Universal Serial Bus controllers, or the category containing the affected phone.
- Right-click the relevant device and choose Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Restart Windows.
- Reconnect the phone.
- Install the correct driver from COMPELSON or the device manufacturer.
- Check Device Manager for warning icons and test the connection in MOBILedit.
Do not uninstall unrelated chipset or storage drivers while troubleshooting a phone connection. Should you run regsvr32 cache.dll?
Usually, no. regsvr32 registers COM or ActiveX DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer; it is not a general-purpose missing-DLL repair command.
If COMPELSON specifically tells you that this particular file is a registered component, use an administrator Command Prompt and the exact path supplied by the installer:
regsvr32 "C:Program FilesMOBILeditcache.dll"
A message such as “DllRegisterServer entry point was not found” means the DLL is not intended to be registered this way. Stop there and reinstall MOBILedit rather than trying alternate registration commands.
When System Restore is appropriate
System Restore is a fallback if the error began immediately after a known system change and normal MOBILedit repair or reinstall cannot complete.

- Press Windows key, type Create a restore point, and open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure.
- Review the affected programs and updates.
- Confirm the restore and restart Windows.
Restore can remove later drivers, applications, and configuration changes. Back up current data first. If MOBILedit is the only affected program, reinstalling it is usually more targeted.

Is cache.dll a Windows file?
No verified evidence indicates that it ships with Windows. It is associated with MOBILedit’s Cache Module from COMPELSON Labs.
