systemsettingsadminflowui.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows component, not a normal game DLL or Visual C++ runtime. If Windows says systemsettingsadminflowui.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair Windows rather than downloading an isolated replacement.
What systemsettingsadminflowui.dll does
The file’s embedded description is System Settings Admin Flow XAML UI Implementation. Microsoft servicing documentation lists it alongside Windows Settings components including Systemsettingsadminflows.exe, Systemsettings.dll, Settingshandlers.dll, and Windows.ui.settingsadminflowui.pri.

Microsoft’s published file lists clearly document the component in Windows 8.1 servicing updates. They also show separate x86 and x64 variants. The exact file size and build depend on the Windows release and servicing level, so there is no single correct version that is safe to copy onto every computer. Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 file list provides the clearest public evidence.
That means the file belongs to Windows, even when an application displays the error. The application may simply be the program that happened to launch a Windows component when the problem appeared.

| Message or symptom | What it usually indicates |
|---|---|
systemsettingsadminflowui.dll is missing |
The file may have been deleted, quarantined, or damaged |
systemsettingsadminflowui.dll was not found |
Windows or an application could not locate the file or one of its dependencies |
| The file could not be loaded | The file, a dependency, or the Windows component store may be damaged |
| The program is not designed to run on Windows | Corruption, wrong architecture, an incompatible build, or a dependency problem |
| The error appears after an update | The update may be incomplete or the component store may need repair |
Some DLL-index pages repeat these generic error messages, but they do not prove which executable generated a particular dialog. Treat the wording as a clue, not as proof that the named DLL alone is defective.
First, install pending Windows updates
A failed or incomplete Windows update is a common reason for a system component to become unavailable.
- Open Start > Settings.
- In Windows 11, select Windows Update.
- In Windows 10, select Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install every available update.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not insist on a restart.
- Test the action that produced the DLL error.
If the error began immediately after an update, note that before continuing. It helps determine whether rollback or System Restore is appropriate.
Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
This is the main repair path. DISM repairs the Windows component store first, and SFC then uses that repaired source to check protected system files.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter this command exactly:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to finish. Do not close the window while it is working.
When DISM completes successfully, continue with SFC in the same elevated Command Prompt.
Run SFC
Enter:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Then restart Windows and test again.
Microsoft documents this DISM-then-SFC sequence in Using System File Checker in Windows. A successful SFC result means Windows found no integrity violations, or repaired the files it detected. If SFC says it could not repair some files, run DISM again and inspect the repair result before trying SFC once more.
If DISM reports that it cannot find source files, Windows Update may not be providing a usable repair source. Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation as a /Source; the source must match the installed Windows version and architecture. Do not point DISM at a random downloaded DLL. See Microsoft’s DISM repair guidance.
When repeated SFC and DISM runs leave you guessing about which system components changed, Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan that shows the detected problems; its repair features require the full version, and it is optional rather than a substitute for Windows servicing.
Use Windows 11’s repair reinstall
Supported Windows 11 installations may offer a repair reinstall that keeps personal files, installed apps, and settings while reinstalling the current Windows version.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select System > Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Allow the computer to restart, then test the original action.
The option may be absent on managed computers or older Windows 11 builds. Microsoft explains this feature in Fix issues by reinstalling the current version of Windows.
This is more appropriate than replacing one system DLL when DISM and SFC cannot restore a damaged Windows installation.
Check Windows Security quarantine
Microsoft Defender may quarantine a damaged or suspicious file. The filename itself is legitimate, but do not restore a quarantined item automatically. First verify the detection and the file’s provenance.
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving the file or Windows system components.
- If Defender identifies a genuine threat, leave it removed and run a scan.
- Restore an item only when you have verified that it is a trusted Microsoft file and the detection is a false positive.
Microsoft warns that restoring a real threat can expose the device. Its Protection History guidance explains the available actions.
After checking the history, run Scan options > Full scan. If Windows still reports the component missing, return to DISM and SFC instead of downloading a replacement.
Roll back a recent update or use System Restore
If the problem started directly after a Windows update, recovery tools may be safer than manual file replacement.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Uninstall a recent update
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update > Update history.
- Select Uninstall updates.
- Identify the recent update associated with the problem.
- Select Uninstall, if Windows permits it.
- Restart and test.
Do not remove unrelated updates repeatedly. If the uninstall option is unavailable, use the Windows Recovery Environment or System Restore where available.
Use System Restore
- Open Start.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Review the affected programs and confirm the restore.
System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can remove recently installed software, drivers, or updates. Microsoft’s Recovery options in Windows explains which recovery method fits different failures.
Check architecture and dependencies
A 32-bit DLL and a 64-bit DLL are not interchangeable. Microsoft’s Windows file lists demonstrate both x86 and x64 variants of this component, with build-dependent sizes.

A “module not found” message can also mean that Windows found the named DLL but could not load one of its dependencies. This is especially important when the error appears only after launching one application.
Check these details before attempting anything more invasive:
- Your Windows edition and build
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit
- The exact dialog text
- The executable or application that displays the dialog
- Whether the issue began after an update, cleanup, antivirus action, or software installation
- Whether the error affects Settings and Windows itself, or only one application
If only one game or application displays the error, use that program’s official Repair, Verify files, or reinstall option. The application may be triggering the failure, but that does not make it the owner of this Windows component.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Update drivers only when the evidence points there
A driver is not the normal owner of systemsettingsadminflowui.dll, so Device Manager is not a first-line fix. Use it if the problem began after a graphics, chipset, storage, or input-device update, or if Device Manager shows a warning.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the suspect device.
- Select Properties > Driver.
- Use Roll Back Driver if the issue followed a driver update.
- Otherwise select Update Driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test again.
For a device with a persistent warning, download the driver only from the computer or device manufacturer’s official support page. Do not install a driver merely because a DLL website recommends it.

What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
An isolated download may contain malware, the wrong Windows build, the wrong architecture, or a tampered file. Even a genuine copy may not match the component store, language, servicing level, or dependencies on your installation.
Do not copy an unknown file into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- An application folder beside an executable
Windows uses component servicing to maintain protected system files. The DLL search order can also allow an arbitrary copy beside an executable to override the intended module, creating a security and compatibility problem. Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, a repair reinstall, or matching Microsoft installation media instead.
Do not run regsvr32 by habit
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose DLL repair command. A Windows Settings UI implementation DLL does not become usable simply because it was registered.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
If regsvr32 says the entry point is missing, that does not prove the file is malware or defective. It usually means the DLL was never designed for that registration process.
Do not start with runtime reinstallers
Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, and .NET are not the first-line fix for this file because Microsoft documents it as a Windows component. Install a runtime only when the application’s own error identifies that runtime as missing.
Last-resort repair options
If Windows remains damaged after DISM, SFC, update repair, and the Windows 11 repair reinstall, consider an in-place repair using matching official Windows installation media. Back up important files, select the option to keep personal files and apps when offered, and ensure the media matches the installed edition and architecture.
A clean installation or Reset this PC should be a last resort. Review the reset option carefully because some choices remove applications or personal data.

FAQ
Is systemsettingsadminflowui.dll safe?
The filename identifies a legitimate Microsoft Windows component. A file with that name can still be corrupted or replaced, so verify its digital signature and scan the computer rather than assuming every copy is safe.
Is it a Windows 10 or Windows 11 file?
Microsoft’s strongest public file-list evidence documents Windows 8.1 and older servicing builds. Do not assume that one published version or size applies universally to Windows 10 or Windows 11. On modern Windows, use the installed system’s servicing tools to restore the correct build.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Normally, no. Registration is relevant only to DLLs that expose the required registration entry point. This Windows UI component should be repaired through Windows servicing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy does an application show the error if Windows owns the file?
An application can launch a Windows Settings process or depend indirectly on Windows components. That does not mean the application’s installation contains the correct replacement.
What should I collect if the error remains?
Record the Windows edition and build, system architecture, exact dialog text, application or executable showing it, recent updates or cleanup actions, Defender Protection History results, and relevant CBS or DISM log details. That information distinguishes a missing file from a dependency failure, architecture mismatch, or deeper component-store corruption.
