cnbjop9w.dll is missing because a Canon inkjet printer driver package is damaged, incomplete, outdated, or no longer compatible with Windows. The safest fix is to remove and reinstall the complete printer package rather than downloading this DLL by itself.
cnbjop9w.dll: quick identification
| Item | What is known |
|---|---|
| File | cnbjop9w.dll |
| Type | Hardware printer-driver component |
| Associated software | Canon Inkjet Printer Driver |
| Publisher information | Commonly associated with CANON INC. |
| Windows relationship | May be included in an older Windows printer-driver package |
| Typical location | A Windows Driver Store package or Canon driver installation directory |
| Universal replacement | None |
| Correct repair | Reinstall the driver for the exact Canon printer model |
The file is associated with Canon printer technology and may appear in a package connected with prncacla.inf. Windows normally installs that package with an INF file, catalog, related DLLs, and other driver resources. The DLL is not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET assembly, or general Windows API library.
Because the complete package determines the correct files and architecture, copying a replacement into System32 or SysWOW64 is not a proper repair.
What the error means
Windows may display one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because CNBJOP9W.DLL is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading CNBJOP9W.DLL. The specified module could not be found.”
- “CNBJOP9W.DLL could not be loaded.”
- “CNBJOP9W.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “Cannot register CNBJOP9W.DLL.”
The message does not always prove that cnbjop9w.dll itself is missing. In particular, “The specified module could not be found” can mean that Windows found the named DLL but could not find one of its dependencies.

The timing provides useful evidence:
- During printing: the installed Canon package is likely damaged or incompatible.
- During printer setup: Windows may have staged an incomplete or incorrect driver.
- At startup: an old printer utility or driver may still be loading.
- After a Windows update: the previous package may no longer match the Windows printer subsystem.
- After an antivirus scan: the file may have been quarantined, or the package may have been altered.
No single Canon printer model can be identified from this filename alone. Use the printer model shown in Windows, on the printer itself, or on its original documentation.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the Canon printer
This is the most likely solution when the error appears while printing or installing the printer.
Remove the printer
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Choose the affected Canon printer.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
After the restart:
- Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Wait while Windows searches for the printer.
- Select the Canon printer when it appears.
- Allow Windows Update to obtain the driver.
- Print a test page from the printer’s settings.
If the printer works and the DLL message does not return, the package repair was successful.
Install the model-specific Canon package
If Windows cannot find the printer or installs a generic driver that lacks required features:
- Find the exact Canon model number.
- Open Canon’s official support site in your region.
- Search for the model.
- Select your Windows version and system architecture.
- Download the printer driver or full software package.
- Disconnect the printer if the installer instructs you to do so.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Connect or power on the printer when prompted.
- Restart Windows.
- Print a test page.
Do not select a driver merely because its name contains “Canon” or “Inkjet.” The model, Windows release, and architecture must match.
Manually checking every old printer package can involve comparing several driver entries and guessing which one is stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its full-version repair is optional, and reinstalling the exact Canon package remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 2: Remove an unused Canon driver package
If no Canon printer is connected, the error may come from a leftover driver that Windows or a startup utility still tries to load.

First remove any unused printer:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the old Canon printer.
- Choose Remove.
Then remove its driver package:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
printui /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Highlight the obsolete Canon driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that option.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove a package if another working Canon printer depends on it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf the package does not appear there, open Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for an old Canon entry.
- Right-click the relevant device and select Uninstall device.
- Select the option to remove the driver only if you have confirmed it belongs to the unused printer.
- Restart Windows.
Use pnputil only when you have identified the correct Canon INF package. Removing the wrong package can break another printer.
Fix 3: Check the driver architecture
A “bad image” message or a message saying the DLL was not designed to run on Windows often indicates corruption, a mismatched package, or an architecture problem.
The correct architecture is determined by the printer package and Windows printing subsystem. It is not determined by choosing the DLL with the largest file size. Public file records for this filename are inconsistent, so do not use an online version, size, or hash as a replacement standard.

- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Look at System type.
- Note whether Windows is x64-based, ARM-based, or 32-bit.
Then install the driver specifically offered for that system. Do not mix a 32-bit DLL from one driver generation with a 64-bit package, or copy files from another computer.

On an ARM-based Windows device, use Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Add device first. A traditional Canon installer may not support the device even when Windows can install a compatible printer driver.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use this step when several Windows components are failing, the file is under a Windows driver path, or the printer package appears to be damaged by broader system corruption. It is not the first choice for an isolated Canon driver error.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove and reinstall the Canon printer again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker because DISM can repair the component source used by SFC.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The result matters:
- “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations” means SFC found no protected Windows-file corruption.
- “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them” means restart and retry the printer.
- SFC could not repair some files means repeat the process after confirming DISM completed successfully, then reinstall the printer driver.
Running SFC repeatedly without knowing whether the printer package is damaged does not replace a driver reinstall. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows issues and identify repair candidates; its full-version repair is optional, and the Canon driver still needs to be reinstalled when that package is the actual cause.
Fix 5: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
If the error began immediately after a security scan, check whether Defender removed a file from the printer package.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined or removed items.
- Expand any entry associated with the Canon driver.
- Check the original file path and detection details.
Do not restore the file just because its name appears in the error. Restore it only when the location and package are confirmed as part of a valid, signed Canon or Windows driver installation. If there is doubt:
- Leave the item quarantined.
- Remove the Canon printer.
- Reinstall the driver from Windows Update or Canon’s official model support page.
- Run a Full scan.
- Use Microsoft Defender Offline scan if the suspicious file returns or other malware signs are present.
A DLL found in a temporary folder, an unrelated application directory, or an unexpected user profile location deserves additional scrutiny. Preserve its full path and do not upload or execute it simply to test whether it works.

Fix 6: Reverse a recent update or driver change
If the problem started immediately after a Windows update or printer-driver change, first check for newer updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Canon printer.
You can also check the driver in Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers or Print queues.
- Right-click the Canon device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver if the button is available.
- Restart Windows.
Use System Restore when a suitable restore point exists and the failure began after a known system or driver change:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point created before the failure.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore.
- Reinstall the current Canon driver afterward if necessary.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL by itself
Random DLL download sites sites may provide malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible version, or a file with no matching INF and catalog. Even a genuine-looking DLL may not repair the dependency that Windows actually cannot load.
Do not copy cnbjop9w.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- An application folder
- The Windows Driver Store manually
Use Windows Update or the official Canon support page for the exact printer model instead.
Do not use Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET as a first fix
There is no evidence that this file belongs to those runtime families. Installing unrelated runtimes can add unnecessary software while leaving the Canon driver package broken.
Do not run regsvr32 on this file
Printer-driver DLLs are installed through an INF-based driver package and are not automatically COM components. There is no verified basis for treating cnbjop9w.dll as a self-registering DLL.

FAQ
Is cnbjop9w.dll a legitimate Windows file?
It is a legitimate file associated with Canon inkjet printer-driver technology and may also appear in an older Windows driver package. Its legitimacy depends on its path, signature, and package context.
Which Canon printer installed it?
The filename alone does not identify one model. Check installed printers, the driver properties, and the original Canon installation information.
Should I install a runtime to fix it?
Usually no. This is a printer-driver component, not an identified Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET runtime file.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What if I no longer use the Canon printer?
Remove the printer from Printers & scanners, then remove its obsolete package through Print Server Properties > Drivers. Restart Windows and confirm that the startup error has stopped.
What if Windows keeps reinstalling the bad driver?
Remove the printer and its driver package, restart, install pending Windows updates, and then add the printer again. If Windows Update still selects an incompatible package, use Canon’s current driver for the exact model and Windows architecture.
What information should I provide when asking for help?
Include the exact message, Windows version, printer model, file path, Event Viewer entry, and what changed immediately before the problem began. That information distinguishes a missing package from a dependency, architecture mismatch, quarantine event, or Windows corruption.
