Windows may report: “The program can’t start because alad.dll is missing from your computer,” “ALAd.dll was not found,” “Cannot find alad.dll,” or “alad.dll could not be located.” These messages mean alad.dll is missing, damaged, incompatible, or unavailable to the application that requested it.
The 60-second answer
alad.dll is a third-party application DLL associated with ESTsoft software. Its reported description is “ALAd Dynamic Link Library,” and file inventories commonly associate it with ALZip and ALTools Update.
It is not normally a Windows system file. Do not download an isolated copy from a DLL website or place it in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
The safest repair is:
- Identify the application shown in the error.
- Check ALZip, ALTools Update, and other ESTsoft programs installed on the computer.
- Repair or uninstall and reinstall the owning application using ESTsoft’s official ALTools installer.
- Restart Windows and open the same shortcut again.
The DLL filename alone does not prove which program is responsible. A startup entry, scheduled task, shortcut target, or another ESTsoft product may be requesting it.

What is alad.dll?
alad.dll is a private Windows DLL supplied with an application rather than with Windows itself. Public file records describe it as an ALAd Dynamic Link Library developed by ESTsoft corp.
The available records are not an official ESTsoft release catalogue. They show several observed builds, including 32-bit records around 16.4.28.1, 16.4.28.0, and 11.5.18.0, plus a reported 64-bit record around 13.9.2.1. These records do not establish one universal current version, installation folder, or architecture for every ALTools product.
That distinction matters. A DLL with the correct filename but the wrong version or architecture can produce a different error, including:
- “The application was unable to start correctly”
- “This application has failed to start”
- “The program is not designed to run on Windows”
- Status code
0xc000012f
Treat alad.dll as an application component that must be restored by its parent program.

Before reinstalling anything, identify what is requesting the file.
Check the error window
Look at the title bar and the first line of the message. The program name may appear before the DLL error. Write it down.
If the dialog appears when you open a shortcut:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read Target.
- Note the executable name and its folder.
- Select Cancel without changing the shortcut.
The target usually identifies the parent application more reliably than alad.dll.
Check installed applications
On Windows 11:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for ALZip, ALTools, ALTools Update, or another ESTsoft product.
- Use the three-dot menu beside the product.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Apps & features.
- Search for ALZip, ALTools, or ESTsoft.
Also check Control Panel:
- Press
Windowskey, type Control Panel, and open it. - Select Programs.
- Open Programs and Features.
- Look for ESTsoft or ALTools entries.
If a program appears in the error but is not installed, an incomplete uninstall may have left a startup entry or scheduled task behind.
Check startup items
If the message appears immediately after signing in:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps in Windows 11, or the Startup tab in Windows 10 Task Manager.
- Look for ALTools, ALZip, ESTsoft, or an unknown updater.
- Right-click a suspicious entry and select Open file location where available.
- Do not delete files manually. Confirm whether the related application is still installed.
You can also open Task Scheduler and inspect Task Scheduler Library for an old ESTsoft updater. Remove a task only after confirming that its parent program has been uninstalled.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall ALZip or the identified ESTsoft program
This is the primary fix for a missing or damaged alad.dll.
Try the built-in repair option
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps and then Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find ALZip or the ESTsoft application named by the error.
- Open its menu and select Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the original shortcut.
If no repair option exists, use the program’s own maintenance entry:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select the ESTsoft application.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Modify, if offered.
- Complete the wizard and restart Windows.
Reinstall from ESTsoft
If repair does not restore the file:
- Save any important ALZip settings or files.
- Uninstall the affected ESTsoft application from Installed apps or Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the current installer from ESTsoft’s official ALTools download page.
- Install the program using the vendor’s installer.
- Restart Windows again.
- Test the same application or shortcut.
Do not copy alad.dll from another computer. The installer may need to place related files, registry entries, language resources, and update components together.

If the error occurs during startup and you no longer use the program, uninstall the obsolete ALTools or ALZip installation instead. Then remove its leftover startup entry through Startup apps or the application’s official uninstaller.
Fix 2: Check the file’s location, publisher, and architecture
A valid application DLL normally resides in the folder belonging to the program that uses it, not in a Windows system folder.
To inspect an existing copy:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Choose Open File Location.
- Find
alad.dllin that application directory. - Right-click it and select Properties.
- Check the Details tab for description, company, product, and version information.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Run a security scan on the file and its containing folder.
Do not treat the filename alone as proof that the file is authentic. A copy in System32, SysWOW64, a temporary folder, or a random download directory deserves particular caution.
Architecture can also matter. A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit ALZip or ALTools program, which then requires compatible 32-bit application files. Reinstall the application using the vendor’s current package rather than selecting a DLL based on a third-party version table.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine a file after detecting suspicious behavior or a false positive.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving ALZip, ALTools, ESTsoft, or
alad.dll. - Read the detection name and affected path.
- Do not restore the file solely because its name looks familiar.
- If the application and publisher are legitimate, reinstall the application from ESTsoft instead.
If malware is suspected, complete a security scan before restoring or reinstalling anything. If the same file is repeatedly quarantined after a clean official installation, contact the security software vendor and ESTsoft rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
Fix 4: Check for a missing Microsoft runtime only when named
alad.dll itself is not a Visual C++ runtime. Installing Visual C++ will not normally recreate it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteConsider Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable only if the error also names files such as:
MSVCP*.dllVCRUNTIME*.dllapi-ms-win-crt*.dll
Use Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads. A 32-bit application needs the x86 package even on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit application uses the x64 package.
Multiple Visual C++ generations can coexist. Do not remove older redistributables merely because a newer one is installed.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components when other programs also fail
DISM and SFC repair Windows components and protected system files. They will not normally recreate a private alad.dll inside an ESTsoft application folder, so use them when Windows itself is unstable or several unrelated applications report missing components.

- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:

- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected ESTsoft application.
Microsoft documents this DISM and SFC repair sequence.
Repeatedly running these commands will not replace a DLL that belongs to ALZip or another third-party program. If Windows reports that it repaired files but alad.dll is still missing, return to the ESTsoft repair or reinstall step.

If you prefer help identifying damaged Windows components instead of repeatedly comparing command output, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues; its free scan shows what it finds, while repair features require the full version. Reinstalling the ESTsoft application remains the definitive fix when that program owns alad.dll.
Fix 6: Update drivers only when the symptoms support it
A graphics or device-driver update is not a direct fix for a missing application DLL. Consider drivers only if the application also crashes with display, audio, storage, or device errors.

For a more direct way to identify stale hardware drivers instead of hunting through Device Manager, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show what needs attention; driver installation features require the full version. It is optional and does not replace reinstalling the ESTsoft program that supplied alad.dll.
Why regsvr32 alad.dll usually does not work
Do not use regsvr32 as a general DLL repair command.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. Private application libraries often do not expose that function. Running the command may produce “DllRegisterServer was not found” or another error, and it will not restore a missing file.
Only use regsvr32 if the application vendor specifically instructs you to register that exact DLL. Otherwise, repair the parent application.

If reinstalling still fails
Work through these checks:
- Confirm that the error is still produced by the same executable.
- Check whether the program is being launched from an old shortcut or startup task.
- Install the application into its normal vendor-selected folder.
- Run the application once as administrator by right-clicking its shortcut and selecting Run as administrator.
- Check folder permissions if the file exists but cannot be loaded.
- Temporarily test from a new local Windows user profile if only one account has the problem.
- Check Event Viewer for application errors:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs and then Application.
- Review entries created at the time of the failure.
- If necessary, use Process Monitor to identify the executable requesting
alad.dll.
If the message says the file is not designed to run on Windows or shows 0xc000012f, reinstall the owning application and check whether its installed architecture matches the application. Do not replace the file with a catalog entry that merely has a newer version number.
Back up important data before investigating suspected storage corruption. A single missing application DLL does not, by itself, prove that a disk is failing.
FAQ
Is alad.dll a Windows file?
No reliable evidence indicates that alad.dll ships with Windows. It is associated with ESTsoft application software, commonly ALZip and ALTools Update.
Should I download alad.dll separately?
No. Isolated DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible version, or missing dependencies. Restore it through the official installer for the program that requested it.

Should I put alad.dll in System32?
Normally no. It should generally be restored to the owning application’s directory.
Is alad.dll part of Visual C++?
No. It is an ESTsoft application DLL. Install Visual C++ only when the error also names a Microsoft runtime file.
Why does the error appear when Windows starts?
An old ALTools or ESTsoft updater may still be registered to start with Windows after the main application was removed or damaged. Check Startup apps, Task Scheduler, and Installed apps.
Will DISM or SFC fix it?
They may help when Windows components are corrupted, but they will not normally recreate a third-party alad.dll. Repair or reinstall the owning ESTsoft application first.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What if I cannot identify the parent program?
Check the error dialog, shortcut target, startup entry, scheduled task, Installed apps list, and Event Viewer. The requesting executable is the key to choosing the correct installer.
